In '65, LBJ was the person who brought Civil Rights, Voting Rights, Head Start, the Job Corps and aid to education. By '68, he was the person who sent minorities to Vietnam in far greater proportions, brought them unemployable, gave them no GI Bill, refused to tax corporations, and sent inflation soaring. Things were never what they seemed with LBJ.
This was a conscious speech. President LBJ did something Obama could not do. With tears in my eyes that I can say, we are one country and we have to live together. "Our destiny is tied together and we have one cord". We should love one another. And let no one brings us division.

That's what's sad. Johnson was so fed up with America, that he didn't even bother to run for another term. Once he announced this King and Kennedy were assassinated and the nation was in an uproar over the Vietnam War. In May of 1970 you had The Kent State Massacre and the nation shifted its attention to ending the War. After which you had Watergate and "The Great Society" was forgotten.
If you look at his policies... ASIDE from the Vietnam War... and thats a big aside... he's the last progressive president. And the most infuriating thing about white Americans who want to go back to "these days" (i.e. Tea Party)... these were the days of liberal Democratic led prosperity... not conservatism. But back on topic. He lost support. Remember, Kennedy was challenging him for the nomination. When you have someone challenge you as a sitting president... you've lost ur base.
Scott Bayley Color was not commonly used in film, or television, during that time period! January 12th, 1950 was the first time color was used in television, but very limited because of technology! Not until the mid 1960s did film and television actually start using color, in film and television production!
