I worked on the building of the steam railway in the winter of 87/88 , it peed with rain most days and I was on a 6 ton dumper running in the hard core for the track base, I managed to cadge a large plastic sheet from the mattress dept and tie on the dumper just cutting a hole for my head to poke through, kept me warm and dry. They were building the model railway at the same time. I live just across the A38 from the store now and we can hear the train whistle, but have never seen the model.😅
Wow, thanks for sharing the story! Made me smile the shop that sells everything including a dumper rain cover! Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Thank you for sharing...definitely would do my weekend shopping there if I lived close (well the Missus would)! Beautiful model railway and steam train....anyone else just wishing the other end had a loop and not a turntable? 😆
The end with the turntable is literally in the carpark so I guess no option, we plan to go back with some more time to check out the shops. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to message.
Impressive model railway, which I believe was built for Blue Peter. Heaton Lodge Junction is classified as the biggest and is still growing. There's also a garden centre at Trago, which is well worth a visit.
I will go back to Trango mills as we didn't get a chance to visit any f the shops and also now added Heaton Lodge Junction to the to do list - many thanks for watching and taking the time to message.
Mr Dusty. Thanks for a brilliant day out with you and your family. What a great place to visit. You are obviously an expert videographer and just enough commentary to keep the viewer informed. Most enjoyable.
I don't know where you've the got information from that Trago Mills layout is the biggest in the UK, but I can assure you it isn't, nor has it ever claimed to be so, however, it has claimed to be one of the biggest in the UK and that is quite correct. I worked on that layout for 4 years, completely relaying every inch of track, I relaid over 50 sets of points, 27 boxes of peco code 100 flexible track, at 1 yd per price, with 25 pieces in the box, and 24 rail breather switches, this was in the 2007-2011 time period, I also managed to reinstate the automatic colour light signals throughout and had a maximum of up to 21 trains running at the same time. Exmouth housed the UKs largest model railway at the time, and officially Trago Mills was the second biggest in the UK as regards footage of track. Posters were made advertising the layout was one of the biggest but it has never claimed to be THE biggest. There are much larger layouts in existence, Heaton Lodge in O Gauge and Pete Watermans layout grows by the week and is the Guinness book of world records holder of the biggest portable layout in Britain. The layout at Trago has changed drastically since I left, which breaks me heart, I put everything into rebuilding that layout after decades of neglect and poor workmanship, within the last 10 years, they're torn out all the automatic signals, no.longervdo 3 trains run per circuit, without the signals and electronics only 1 train per circuit can run, the Cathedral has has the wedding scene removed, a Royal Wedding, with over 500 figures, the army Barracks are soldierless and its simply not what it should be anymore. Therefore I respectfully think you need to change the title of your production, and whilst not intentional, your facts need checking before publishing. Respectfully yours
Thank you for taking the time to message. I feel I have upset you, I am so sorry. I film and post for a hobby, my viewers know that I make mistakes and I always stress on my build video they are for interest and not guidance. Of course you are right that Making tracks is the largest portable railway and I am sure there are others, but I am also sure most will not worry too much if its the 3rd fourth or fifth largest and will just enjoy the model for what it is, a superb railway on a very impressive scale, however from what you say, even more impressive in the past. My info just came from a conversation and in the video if I recall right I said 'said to be the largest'. Anyway thank you for your past efforts on the railway, I certainly enjoyed it.
@@dustyshelfcollectablesNo you havnt upset me at all, I'm sorry if it came over like that, I just feel.very strongly about that layout, it was "my baby", the loco depot at the front I completely scratch built, took me over 8 months to complete, and it literally was a labour of love, with literally lots of blood sweat and tears, when I first started I had to remove a 6ft section along the front by the river bridge as it was literally soaked and rotten right through, the harbour was in a disgusting state full of fly lavae, it had to be drained, it smelt as it was stagnant, cleaned out and I installed an aquarium air stone to aerate the water, not nice. The problem.is, there is no support by management, the top man wants it all up and running, but middle management would rather it ge tripped out and arcade machines out in its place. Apologies if I caused offence, it wasn't my intention, ibwish you'd seen it 15 years ago, it was truly amazing, I'm not singing my own praises, just that it was working much better than it is now, the station front was all my own design too but with no support I simply gave up and walked away from it, such a shame. Again, my sincere apologies
What a wonderful establishment. Miniature steam train, bumper boats, Go carts, model trains, and more. I don't know how much it would cost to ship myself to your house but when I get there will you adopt me? You're a little more than half my age but I'll call you Dad if I must just as long as you take me on these outings, LOL. Great video, Jersey Bill
Been here a couple of times ,wife comes for the shopping. Not seen it that empty as we come in July \August. Got a photo on the phone of a chicken 🐔 walking about having a grand old time there😱😱😂😂.
Went there years ago to have a day out, when we got to the entrance and was told how much said I'm not paying that turned round and went somewhere better,
We found it very reasonable, free to park, free to enter the railway was £3 a ride and a £1 to get into the model railway. Are you mistaking this with the long closed (but excellent) Dobwalls?
3:33 Trago Mills, since the magical domain turrets went up, is one of those places that is a sign to kids from up north squashed in the back of dad's car, that their family holiday has all but begun. If you've missed the end of the M5 and the sweeping climb up to Exeter Racecourse, then the castle on your left (that apparently sells the cheapest mops in Devon) is all but unmissable hidden behind its enchanted forest of evergreens. It even got an extended mention on Mock the Week once. Local boy done good, Dartmoor's token comedian's naming of it had the host, Dara O'Briain running with it as the perfect name for the next Bond villain..! After forty years of motoring by, now I have a genuine reason to stop. Rawlplugs _and_ steam trains big & small‽ Somebody stop me!
You sure put a smile on my face 'trango mills' the bond villain. It not an area I been to in many year but I will be heading back. Anyway many thanks for watching and taking the time to message.
Yes I've been to the shop in Falmouth but it doesn't have the magic I'm seeing here. It's still rather big but it's only special feature is the lovely harbour view from the upstairs cafe!
SO sorry I am not local, maybe if someone reads this they could help? I wold say check running tough the minature railway is not open ever day and does not always run steam.
No that was a pity not much stock running, some of the comment have pointed out years back the layout was much better with many trains running, anyway many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
The largest model railway in the world; Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg. Started in 2000, was obviously curtailed during Covid, but not sure if it's completed even now. Check TH-cam.
Apologies for the delayed reply, Yes thanks, I have been wanted to visit the Hamburg railway for ages, hopefully next year. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to message.
Sadly not on the day I was there, I understand it past its prime from others that have commented, but still impressive and a lot of work went into the Layout. Many thanks for watching,
Why USA outline.Whats wrong with British locomotives.Would the Yanks run British loco’s in America,no, I don’t think so.British railways were the the most beautiful in the world. The American trains were the most ugly ever built. They may have been more powerful, but looked like Quasimodo. The bells, the bells,Esmarelda.

Many happy memories of visiting this place. Much to see for the railway enthusiasts. Enjoyed watching. Cheers Paul.
Thanks Paul a new railway for me.

hopefully it will recieve some enthusiasm soon
The word "possibly" is something you need to check the meaning of.
I used to look after this model railway. Some of my modelling work is in this video. Heartbreaking that there isn't much running.
That was the only let down, loved the modelling but as you say not much action. Anyway thanks for the message.

I sat here chuckling away, as always many thanks!
Been here a couple of times ,wife comes for the shopping. Not seen it that empty as we come in July \August. Got a photo on the phone of a chicken 🐔 walking about having a grand old time there😱😱😂😂.
It was only that empty as we were the last there, lunch time was hell! Didn't get into the shops so that's for next time.
I enjoyed this ride and the exhibit.. Looks like it's well worth a visit?
It was! I really enjoyed the place. Many thanks for watching.
All that track and not many trains!
Yes quite a shame, from other post it was much better and few years ago, anyway many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Ah the OLD Blue Peter layout.
Im off down there soon.
It's not the old Blue Peter Layout, but you get free entry if you're a blue Peter badge holder
Enjoy, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

No there are a couple of stores. this is the one in newton abbot. Thanks for watching.
Yes I've been to the shop in Falmouth but it doesn't have the magic I'm seeing here. It's still rather big but it's only special feature is the lovely harbour view from the upstairs cafe!
How do you get there from Newton Abbot station?, would love to go there.😞
SO sorry I am not local, maybe if someone reads this they could help? I wold say check running tough the minature railway is not open ever day and does not always run steam.
OK, many thank for getting back to me☺
Wonderful layout. But they didn't have a lot of trains running
No that was a pity not much stock running, some of the comment have pointed out years back the layout was much better with many trains running, anyway many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I didn't realise that railway was still there.
Neither did I until recently, really enjoyed the place, Many thanks for watching.
