Reading Station is definitely a gem, I adore the fact it's so different compared to other stations. Its openness, on returning to your hometown (Reading) allows you to have a reoccurring sense of relaxation since you are home but also because you are in a station where you can separate from rushing workers, as mentioned watching the sunset.
Just recently went to Reading and the station is ultra modern and friendly. Surprisingly a grumpy old git said ''shithole station'' I think the station was far better looking than he was, he looked so miserable. That didn't put me off as I enjoyed my visit. Nice station and wonderful town parks.
It’s a great station use it all the time the escalators is easily the best part of the design. After moving through it’s spaces and seeing other ppl do the same it can be confusing which way the exit is on the bridge bc both sides are so identical 😂
It's a good looking station and all that, agreed. It's just a shame that it is so pigeon-friendly. The ceilings are perfectly suited to house them, meaning the floors are plastered with patches of pigeon s*#£. And when there is a slight mist in the air, the it condenses on the entire floorspace making it rather slippery. Oh, and when it rains, the bottom of the steps outside the North entrance just holds the water in a nice big brown puddle. So, it's not as good as they make it sound.
Like: Wide open spaces, but still offering shelter, Transfer bridge, platform width and accessibility. Dislike: Totally not enough south-end lifts - Reading is an inter-city station, where travelers have luggage. Lifts are full, travelers take big cases on escalators and jam them. Everything is slathered in pigeon shit.

They still have trouble despatching trains on time, biggest liability after Bristol TM on Western Region.
