Fun fact: Lalo actually wrote this when he was visiting someone. Obviously he thought that he would make tortillas. Unfortunately, there were no tortillas. He then came up with a little jingle in his head, and the first set of lyrics were “There’s no tortillas”. He immediately ran for his notepad and pencil, and thus, this song was born…. I freaking love it.
Lalo was a good friend of my family, especially my grandfather. My grandfather has unfortunately passed away recently from this date. But now they can sing this song, together, in heaven. Because when someone you love becomes a memory, that memory will become a treasure. If only R.I.P. meant return if possible.
That's awesome! My grandpa knew Charlie Pride. They were really good friends. When my grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer, Charlie Pride came to do a concert and made him the guest of honor. Stuff like that, just touches my heart and makes it smile!
I had the pleasure of meeting the man at las casuelas in Rancho Mirage I listened to him playing at the bar and I approached him and asked him if I could play his guitar and show him some of what I had learned. and he gave me his guitar ,, I played some classical/flamenco guitar for him and he was very gracious about the arraignment I had played for him. I met a true soul that night and I would come into the bar several times after and played with him. as I lived At Rancho Mirage cove. I have lived a wonderful life with the people I have been blessed to meet and associate with and Lalo was definitely one of the remarkable characters I had become acquainted with.
We (me and my homies) snuck into Lalos's on Brooklyn Ave. once and it was right in the middle of this song. We got to hear a few more songs before we got busted. But it's a memory that will last with me forever.
