Yeah yeah the lens looks great (already pre-ordered), but the video presentation was simply delightful. The Sigma representative was fantastic in his delight in the nature around him!
This lens is absolutely brilliant Sigma! And what I like the most on it are the pro features - programmable buttons, clickable/non-clickable aperture ring, tripod food that is arca-swiss compatible and the tripod collar even turns and clicks in in 90 degree positions. It has everything really. This alone deserves our praise!
Bravo. What a stunning lens. Light, compact, sharp, fast (enough), weather sealed, and appears to function superbly. Very much appreciate that Arca compatible foot (are you listening, Sony?). A really good detailed and informative presentation too, great job.
I haven’t yet considered a tele lens to go with my a7siii since I usually use mft for wildlife, and Sony for closer human focused video, but for the size of this sigma, this would be perfect for low light wildlife video for the Sony. Sigma has a few lenses on my wishlist already, this one goes on top. Truly a great looking lens imo.
Great lens release from Sigma, and a lovely video too. I'm hoping we see an L-mount camera better suited for wildlife soon, as there's now a decent set of telephoto options for it but no camera that can really take advantage of them 😅
This is definitely one of the most intriguing lenses Sigma has put out in quite a while. I loved the 120-300 f/2.8 when I had it but the weight was one of the reasons I finally got rid of it. The big thing that I would want to see is the ability to use at least a 1.4X teleconverter with it on E-mount. With that I think this would be in my bag for the next falls bear and eagle season over here on Vancouver Island.
Which Sony body do you plan to use the Sig500/5.6 on? I had the Nikkor 500PF and never felt a need for a TC; but with the high res Sony bodies (A1,A7Riv,a,A7Rv) just pop into crop mode and forget that extra piece of glass :)
Yes no teleconverter for Sony camera's stops me from buying this. And the 5.6 a little as well. I just sold my Tamron 150-500 because of the small aperture, missing the focus often and it's not sharp at all on the A7RV. Now looking for a replacement, but only the Sony 400 and 600 primes are real contestants I think 🥲
@@jeroenvdw After my Sig500/5.6 arrives I can hook you up with a primo Sony 600/4! Truthfully the reason I bought the Sigma is weight and carpometacarpal osteroarthritis in both thumbs.
@@jeroenvdw I currently use the 200-600 on the Sony A7RV and the detail is good, but not quite as good as my Canon R5 and the 500f/4 with the 1.4 teleconverter which is how that is used most often. The size of this lens and the possibility that it would be a bit sharper than the zoom are what is peaking my interest especially at the price. The 600 is what I would love to have but the price and size/weight are what holds me back as I hike fairly long distances to get to where the shots are.
@@medicineman4040I currently use the A7RV and yes I often crop my shots significantly as the subjects are rarely approachable. I currently find that 700-800 mm on a full frame (and then cropping afterwards still) is where i get most of my shots so I use the 200-600 with the teleconverter or the Canon R5 with the 500 f/4 and the 1.4 teleconverter most often now. The size of this new lens matching the nikon is intriguing and if I don't lose too much detail/sharpness then it might be worth having.
I have studied in Sheffield Uni and when I was living there I was shocked how wildlife is integrated into UK cities, besides squirrels I have seen also foxes in the streets

This lens is a good reason to dump my Canon R6, the 500/5.6 has been a glaring hole in the Canon line-up for years.
If they could make a 600 F5.6 that would be fantastic.
