      Hey just discovered this channel! By the way the production of the video is really good. Keep it up !
      Perhaps, you could try making a Wi-Fi Swich? (For eg, turning on a light or a stereo while you're still at work)
      ps: The only slightly complain I might have is that sketchy music, that prob 80% of cheap tutorials in instagram have. Maybe consider using some type of soothing music !

      Jose V wouldn't think so. But it shouldn't be to hard to do that. Either by hand or by printer. Think by hand is faster though.

    This is hardcore DIY. Using only basic tools is awesome. I really hate other DIY videos that do stuff with ease and with $70.000 worth stuff in workshop..

    Hey that was a great video. I'm a paraplegic, I get around real well, played wheelchair basketball and did locksmithing for 20 years. But the there are things I can't easily get to and the curtains is one of them. This will be my first project!

    Using the drill to turn the pieces while holding them against the sandpaper is a great way to adjust their size and gives a near perfect precision. It's also good to use connectors whenever you can. Overall, I quite enjoyed watching the project take shape. One thing to adjust is to put a tube over the photoresistor to direct the light that gets to it, so it's easier to adjust when you want it to receive light, where you want it to receive light from and how much.

    Thanks for a REALLY GOOD tutorial! 😃
    And BIG thumbs up for not only providing links to all the necessary parts, but also writing out the NAME/LABELING for each one in full! I really HATE when people are using affiliate links that requires you to visit the link in order to figure out the full product label! 😩
    I don't visit certain sites that are simillar to Amazon etc. (I'm not necesarily talking about Amazon here!) due to their heavy datacollection policy, so I'm forced to search for the parts on other sites that has terms and condition I can agree to!
    (And no, disabling cookies for ALL sites doesn't prevent online profiling. There are ways for companies to get around that 😑 It's not that I have stuff to hide or anything, it's just the fact that they seemingly don't care if I'm comfortable giving strangers access to my life or not. They are just selfishly forcing themselves in anyway 😒)

    Great stuff. That nema 17 will have loads of power for that job. I have a small servo doing the same thing. I am on my third auto blind now. To make things easier I got rid of the chain and glued the blind bung straight onto the motor using and stainless tube that I crushed onto the keyed shaft. But instead of stepper I used a geared motor off ebay. Then a hall effect transistor to detect where the shaft was. Work great on BnQ blinds.

    Polymath you are, with an excellent knowledge of motors, computers, electricity, electronics, engineering, carpentry, and do-it-yourself fabrication! Who knows, maybe bronze-casting and post-quantum metaphysics, as well.
    Good presentation, too. It was a half-hour meditation for me on the beauty of making things work for one's self and how most of us default to stock manufactured products and others' expertise.

    Great project. Next is to control it with MQTT. :-)
    Anyways, a protection for the gears when small children are visiting would be nice. Just some plate of transparent plastic would be enough. And still showing the device and gears moving.
    But, great and inspiration to do myself. Thanks.

    Coba jika motor stepper itu di aplikasikan langsung di pinggir relnya pasti jadi tidak ribet bikin roda segala, paling cuma beli flexsible caupling saja kan praktis.
    Try if the stepper motor was applied directly on the edge of the track would not be complicated to make all wheels, most just buy flexsible caupling it's practical

      make a geared down winch that the rope wraps around

    This is perfect. Exactly what I wanted but can you integrate it with google home instead of a photo cell. Also how does the motor know the length of the curtain.

    • @dial2277
      @dial2277  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Empirically identified the number of steps of the motor and is included in the program.

    How did you increase the torque by adding those geared wheels? Can you please explain to me?

    • @dial2277
      @dial2277  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your question! With great gear I just increased the shoulder of the force. The rotation speed is reduced and torque increased. More detail you can read about it by typing into a search engine the word "reduction gear". ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B5%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B4%D1%83%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80

    Excellent documentation, very cheap parts, a lot of details , very simple tools involved . Did you try to command via internet? This can be the next step.Excellent job. keep it like that.

      Thanks for the feedback, it's very important to me! I did not try to manage via the Internet, but it's a good idea. If there is a need, I'll try.

      I will start my own automatic blinds controller and I want to do also via internet. This is why I ask you about this. How to communicate with an cloud server and with an open source android application.Cheers.

    Just curious ? But, why not use a stepper motor with more torque and just install it at the top of the curtain on the roller portion so that there wouldn't be a need to fabricate all those gears ? Best Regards :-)

    • @dial2277
      @dial2277  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really wanted to do, but was just such a motor. I had to improvise. I wanted to do just the sprocket gearing. Do not want to climb upstairs. I think that most people would prefer to hook the chain and attach to the wall than to go up and something to do there. Thanks for your questions! Good luck!

    nice video, the diy factor in this video is indeed hardcore (because of the basic tools used).
    im only watching for the technique as im going for 3dPrinted style (wich probably wasnt so easily available when this video was made).
    2 comments..
    1- you have one of a kind realy ugly blinds! :-)
    2- wouldnt it be better if you bought nema17 5kg-torqued steppers? (it ouwld eliminate the need for the gears and will be way faster?)
    anyway, this vid was real helpfull for me. thnx very much for all the effort!

      Thanks for the good comment! I just used what was in the house. Of course there are better solutions. Now I would have done it on a 3D printer, but then I did not have it. But not everyone has a 3D printer and many want to see the production with use simple tools of their available materials. 1) :) you're right! 2) Yes, of course you're right, it will be better. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    Very nicely done! This was great fun to watch :D Loved the funny moments :P I have you since added a window comparator to stop the code toggling rapidly between light and dark states?

      Dial Most welcome! :D I love the detail you put into making the drive wheel, very nicely done! :D
      I wonder if it would be possible to add a counterweight to the chain to counter the weight of the blinds? Would that make it easier for the motor to drive it?
      Brilliant idea using the luggage scales to test the force, by the way :D

    • @dial2277
      @dial2277  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I also liked driving sprocket, although I have only about a sign of how it will look. It turned out not bad)) over the counterweight may think. It will help when lifting the curtains, but will resist the descent. If I get you right. I am glad that appreciated the idea with weights. Everything worked out exactly! :)

    with a little bit of programming you could make that thing way better

  • @macanha
    @macanha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could make this piece on a 3d printer more easily and also . why not attach the motor at the axis of the roller? (edited: this video is from 2007!!!, that explain everything. :)
