  • I've owned these amplifiers for almost 2 decades, and naturally, they've seen better days.
They were last used by me in my Corsa B, which was stripped about 12 years ago. Because I wasn't using these amplifiers, they were loaned out to friends...until it returned in this condition. I can't say who mistreated it because it went from one to the next unitl I was sent pictures of its condition.
Anyways, it eventually made its was back to me and found itself on a shelf in my audio room. About 2 weeks ago, I developed an itch to use two of these amplifiers, however it's current condition was less than desirable, so I opted to refinish them 3 or the 4 (the 4th one was still brand new in the back) first.
The first step was obviously to strip the covers off.
I then sanded the covers by hand using 400 grid water paper. One of the covers had deep scratches that I was able to fill and conceal using 2KPremier Chemicals MS Primer.
Should you not need to fill anything, you can switch out the MS primer with regular NC Grey primer, which doesn't require you to mix any hardners as it dries with air.
To get a better finish, I'd advise you to sand out any humps or bumps as you go along.
Once the primer was laid down, I sprayed a few layers of Sparkle Silver and then sanded out any possible dust, using 1000 Grit sand paper. This is where I made the most mistakes as I kept forgetting that there was no clear coat over the paint yet, so I sanded through a few times.
I eventually got around to laying on the clear coat and then left it to dry for 2 days.
This morning, I gave it a quick rub down using P1500 water paper (by hand) and then polished it (again, by hand).
The finish is far from perfect, and a lot of mistakes were made, however I'm happy with the final outcome.
I'd also like to thank my homie, Pablo from Premchem for the tech support when I messed up here and there.
All products used are available from Paint Spec Krugersdorp.
Let me know if you'd like to see more of these videos, and we'll get working on a few.
