Nirvana playing this song on D tuning instead of standard E, really gives this song this haunting feel that penetrates deep into your soul. It's lower in pitch, less bright, deeper.
nirvana were masters of beauty in simplicity. that simple chromatic run from D to E, then a minor third E to G, then back to D, and up a fifth to A. So simple yet hypnotic. Them bones by alice in chains does something similar. Music like this will never be popular again. Sure, you have the extremely technical bands such as animals as leaders or polyphia, but they will never reach the heights of popularity and influence Nirvana did.
@@Soothing432saul goodman, I didnt meant to flex or anything, just add to your comment and dig a bit deeper into what makes the main riff a timeless one. for the record, playing a note and always coming back to it is something that has been done since time inmemorial in the middle east and the india, they are the masters and creators of this feel. Tool does the same thing, in drop D as well funny enough.
Totally agree with you !! I already posted a comment on that about one year ago. But it was on the Lithium video clip. 3 songs are in D tuning on the record. Come as you are, Lithium and Drain you. I've been wondering who took the decision to record them in D for ages. Can't find the answer anywhere... Butch Vig, The band, Cobain... sounds like I will never know :-)

Sure, you have the extremely technical bands such as animals as leaders or polyphia, but they will never reach the heights of popularity and influence Nirvana did.
are you explaining the main riff? im not great at music theory. its a brilliant riff, hypnotic indeed.@@royercrafter
Butch Vig, The band, Cobain... sounds like I will never know :-)
@@simonfrancoise4869 they were probably experimenting with different tunings while playing so some songs were "born" with E and some with D .

As someone who was born after Kurt Cobain died believe me when i say, this is an all time classic song and band. R.I.P Kurt.
If you want to have your mind blown , listen to the song "Where is my mind " from the Pixies. A song that was released in 1988 !! They were the front runner of alternative rock/punk. Kurt Cobain said he got inspired by this band and when you listen to the song you will see how similar it is.

yeah cause they stole it from a song called Eighties by Killing Joke lol, even Kurt Cobain admitted it flat out
@@moeburnsnaughtychannel2352 its not stolen because the song eighties was made from a grunge band and nirvana is a grunge band. Take led zeppelin. They used tons of riffs from blues song. Many artists use riffs from other song
That gives you that Piscean vibe
This song gives me the vibe of its 1992 middle of the summer, your having a pool party, no cellphones, no stupidness, just good old fashion communication surrounded by good honest people with a backbone, you get onto the diving board and as your standing on the diving board the guitar riff of the beginning starts playing and you dive into the pool.
The drums, pedals, production, EQ, bass, guitar, and vocals are just unreal. Everything else is just perfect.
So amazing ❤ you may like our songs 🤔
