In our never ending quest to find cooperation wherever we go, the two of us are always on the hunt for games that encourage co-op. Benefits with Friends is our answer to the games that won't let you play together without working for it. In this series our goal will be to see if bringing a friend along makes or breaks a game. What we're most excited about is that it gives us the opportunity to revisit games like RimWorld, and hopefully find out whether RimWorld with Friends has it's Benefits.

Just turning games into multiplayer instead of finding coop is such a great idea
It’s a lot harder then most people think, most games have to be completely reconstructed from the ground up in order to get good multiplayer going in it. Thankfully tho people have been crafting multiplayer injectors that just make the whole process easier

Eyyy, so cool to hear you both are checking out some multiplayer mods now! With how much you both really enjoyed Slime Rancher, I would like to mention again just how fun and revitalizing it was for me to player the Slime Rancher Multiplayer mod (SRMP). Hope to see how much you both enjoy it as well!

Wierd thing with Rimworld is that there are multiple multiplayer mods, one is a CO-OP like style as if it were LAN where you are all in the same colony (Also I think you can designate certain pawns to be under your control only? Don't quote me on that)
Then there's another Multiplayer Mod which lets you have multiple player controlled colony's that can interact and what not (very neat)
Ah I don't know what mod, but there was a mod I'm pretty sure that allowed you to set up certain work policy's to be used at certain times during the day, so you can have colonists work on different things through-out the day.

Idk if it's a seperate mod, but u can have two separate colonies as well. With 8 people, u can just have 4 different colonies where a pair work in each of them
Yeah it's the same mod. You just need to send a caravan with half the people once you land. You can use dev mode to speed up the caravan, then you can be neighbors! Fun to watch each others map squares
Benefits with friends is such a good title
I like the idea of using the RimWorld multiplayer mod to do an 8-player or so Hardcore run (no recruiting new colonists), assuming there's a content creator with that many friends who will follow the rules, similar to the group Minecraft hardcore playthroughs that are around, but much more likely to die eventually, more of an endurance test really. Or maybe a 'semi-competitive' game where two teams have one half of the map and have to deal with what happens there, though you'd probably want another mod to halve the raid sizes in that case.

One thing fun, me and my friend do. Is try making a colony but each of your pawns has its zone set to half the map, so each of you has "your own" colony but it's the same map and restricted areas set the border. Then you can play with each other, all while having your colonists do the task you assigned. Idk an idea

My favorite biome is boreal forest in the mountains. The short growing season makes the first winter pretty intense, but I love having my frozen mountain fortress with greenhouses and hydroponics to keep my little pawns going.
Always glad to see this game getting more love and love the husky army.

I wonder if there would be a setting so one person can control a single pawn, and take the Colonist building aspect into a whole new level. Now you're really part of a community.
a good way to play "coop" rimworld is by starting with double the pawns/characters and splitting the map in half with the allowed areas so your pawns stick to your side and theirs to their side or maybe make some communal areas to have your split colonies mix, and in case of events and emergencies you can help each other still

It's been 2 months so you'd likely not see this, but.
There's another version of the Multiplayer mod called "Rimworld Together", that allows you to play at your own settlement (Yes, you can still visit eachother).
Loved when ''I was the Sun (before it was cool)'' kicked in, my favorite piece of music from Starbound!

I think this would be a lot cooler if each person had their own individual group of people except you work together with your individual groups.

"We'll get the tribal start instead to get more colonists" just to point out you can also edit the scenario at the start to change the number of colonists. Character editor mod and Prepare Moderately are also great. (Avoid prepare carefully, it cause issues when creating pawns and they can break the late game. Even if the mod basically does nothing after the first 5 seconds.)
With that you won't need to go for tribal start which has really bad research and slows everything even more. If you have the DLC (and since you're roleplayers) a fluid ideoligion could be used to decide how your colony evolve.

From one gamer couple to another: You two *NEED* to try Morrowind Multiplayer if you haven't already. Me and my Fiance have had a RIOT running around Vvardenfell together, causing all sorts of mischief as she gets absolutely CLOBBERED on Skooma and I'm forced to trek behind her as she breaks the game at Mach 12.

This is why I like building robots and mods that let me build robots, so i can get them to haul and clean while my colonists build and such. Or vice versa if the robots are better than the colonists.

When I played with my girlfirend, we change the starting conditions to have 6 colonists and more supplies. Upon landing one of us would immediately create a caravan and move a few tiles over to start a new colony. This way each player can have his own colony, but you can send each other caravans to trade or help out with fighting.

with good use of zones you can build colonies together on the same map.
I would love to see you two play project zomboid. The multiplayer struggle to survive in simulated zombie apocalypse would be quite interesting to see.

For the navigation people, you could just have him navigate his person, you navigate yours, and assign other colonists to one of you. Instead of having both of you trying to navigate all of them

The problem with Rimworld Multiplayer mod is that it isn't compatible with most mods. And when somebody asks me how many mods I usually use, I don't let this person finish its sentence and just answer "YES"

Absolutely. While you can technically play Souls games together through summoning, the Seamless Coop mod for Elden Ring is so much better.

I love your breakdown of the feeling of the rimworld multiplayer mod, but it makes me wonder how this would play out with just a few more mods, bad hygiene, CE or Rimworld of Magic come to mind, they really open up the chances for ridiculous things and awesome tales to come together.
The open world mod is also great to “play” with friends

I just remembered/relaized that Pikmin as a series would be perfect for this channel. Its got a blend of min/maxing and cutness that seems like it was made for both of your playstyles.
I think theres even a mutiplayer mod of 2 floating around. Probably why mods of all things made me think of it. But Pikmin 3 has a co-op mode built right into the Switch port that would be perfect. (Plus 3 would be a lot easier to get into the series with than 2.)
Granted I'm bias but i think any of the 4 games would be a fair starting point, except for 2 since it builds off Pikmin 1's plot. Plus Pikmin 2 is not for the faint of heart, as certain parts of it feel like a Kazio level with the way certain caves are designed.
But hey, I personally would love to see any of these games here.
