Now every time you post on Fridays I will expect for it to be in French. This was awesome! I appreciate it because it helps me practice my own French. Plus your video quality is always amazing.
Hey now - let's keep the expectations on hold for half a minute, haha. I'd like to do more but holy cow was it a lot of extra work to do those subtitles.
This is great! I watched it twice ... once to read the subtitles, and once to see everything in the video without pause ... and it was lovely to hear it all in French, even if I don't understand that much. It pulls you further in, to figure it out, and to understand the pronunciation better. I have heard that locals find our language mistakes charming and that they are just happy that we try, but from the sound of it (tho I'm far from being able to knowledgeably assess), you have little to apologize for. Impressive! And I guess I'd just like to say that it was nice to hear so much of it flowing instead of short phrases. I had a laugh the other day when you spoke a little German at the start of your day, as that is the language I studied most and I find phrases still pop into my mind and out of my mouth in German randomly. Ah, well done, Jay. I can't wait until Weds when we hear about the attorney meeting on Tues! You're rocking it! New pants, slam-dunking the French video, tackling your 2018 goals ... GO JAY!
It was really great hearing how good your French is. I lived in the 19th for four years, but never learned to speak French that well. I hardly knew any before I went to Paris, though... I’m having a lot of fun reliving my own Paris memories watching your channel. Thanks!
I love this! Even though I only understand little bits of what you say - the subtitles make me understand it and I feel like i revised french vocabulary. I wouldn't watch every vlog like this but if you do it once a month I'm in ;D
Hi Jay, Loved the French vlog!! I will probably watch it more then once just to have it sound familiar since preparing for my trip to Paris and beyond in April. Keep up the good work.
For sure - that mic really added a lot. Thanks for sending it! I need to figure out the little mounting clip and see if I can't master using it while walking. If nothing else, it will come in handy for windy/noisy situations!
Wow! I am impressed!! I have just started watching your videos a week ago and I stumbled upon this video in my atempt to watch everything I missed. I must say that your language is great. I have been learning french for about ten years now and I am minoring in it, yet I don't seem to be making much progress. If it's okay for you, I would love it if you made more videos in french :)
Ughhhhh WHERES the likes,I’m learning french too :) and this really fueled my confidence to go at it 👊🏼🤠 I’m going to France this summer and I really wanna go head first into the language
Love this video! It was so interesting on multiple levels! I watched it a few times -- once with the auto French subtitles (I corrected some of them in the TH-cam subs editor-- for some 'odd' reason, it doesn't know what Patreon is... yet. We'll have to train it!) Your French is fab! Merci, Jay!
Thanks for taking the time to make some corrections! That's really thoughtful of you. I wish I could get subtitles in both French and English for every video. As for Patreon - let's be honest, it's not really a known thing in France yet haha. Soon though! I can be their French ambassador someday ;D
Yet again, another awesome video!! Really enjoyed the French speaking side of Jay. I felt as though the mic for the phone was a noticeable difference.. Sounded clearer and zoned in more on your voice with the background noises not being as apparent. C'etait parfait! 👌
dude, @rodemicrophones rock, that's what I've been using since I started making vids and have never been disappointed. Great vlog (and all the work on typing out the subtitles, I know that pain), keep killin' it!
The mic is pretty legit. I just need to figure out how to keep it at the ready and use it (especially when it's windy). It's hard to add equipment when you've worked to slim it down to next-to-nothing, haha.
Jay Swanson I really enjoyed this video!! Tu parles francais tres bien (hope my 3 yrs of high school French said that right LOL)!! I'm going to be reviewing my French again this year, it's been a while!! French is by FAR the most beautiful language in the world IMHO. J'espere tu as un magnifique jour ☺️💖💓
Such a great video, and you really motivate me to improve my French. Btw I just received the postcard from November because I came back to Cheney for a visit. Thank you! Good luck with the lawyer. I think France would be lucky to have you as a citizen
I watch your videos as part of my breakfast routine so this episode was interesting. Kinda like eating while watching a video and reading a paper at the same time. Lol. Your French puts my limited "I want this, I want that" French to shame!
Jay, I followed the link from ep 929 to see this. Somehow I had missed it, it was much easier to follow the French with your subtitles. I think I could break through to conversant with your help! Thanks for your videos, merci
Bravo Jay, ..I'm learning Spanish at work (I have many Spanish colleagues) ...I'm working on basic phrases...one day full conversations...bravo Monsieur..
Where did you get those eclair and are they pretty common in Paris. The idea of a coffee one intrigues me LOL I would have written this in French but my written is worse then my spoken that is....pas tres bein! :-)
WOW! Great French. That was an interesting experience though. French being spoken, English subtitles and the postcard pictures being flashed on the screen. Bit of sensory overload....LOL That Eclair looked yum!!
Cool mic! Great video, I've been wanting to hear more French, though I can't understand, it sounds really cool. I had to really keep up with the subtitles, the post cards and your face. Lol. I only know Spanish, so there you go. Oh wait, I know Fromage.....
maybe another time a viewer can contribute with subtitles that you can put in the "Add subtitle: portion of the video on YT itself rather in the video, to save the trouble of adding the subtitles before publishing. Keep up the content :) I'm new here, but cool stuff. Best.
MY friend l ! GREAT JOB Jay ! You need nobody to inspire you ! ... YOU ALREADY GREAT ! YOUR TH-cam CHANNEL IS GREAT !!! JUST KEEP GOING !!!! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF MORE !!! and thanks for your video ! super le francais ! bravo
Bravo ! Have you noticed when language switching ... the voice switches too. Your voice in English is pretty different from the one in French. The same if you change to Spanish, German or Italian. Go on, and bon courage for your visa’s struggle and quest!
That was awesome! Hearing u speak French u sound like a French person even your mannerisms. I have a French minor (degree) and 3 summers living in Quebec but still not fluent. I guess it’s a matter of putting oneself out there consistently. Lately I’ve been working on my Spanish because Canada is freezing (and I need out one day) but I still wish I could get my French a little better....It’s those damn R’s!! 😂
Loved the French -- thanks Jay! Great for us beginning learners. (And by the way, your videos are a lot more interesting that certain other expats with more followers who may be a little more, how shall I say, photogenic. Not that there's anything wrong with that! TH-cam is unfair.)
Haha, well as my friend Chinwe likes to remind me, I look a lot better on camera than in real life. So apparently photogenic is all I have going for me to begin with ;D
I recognize all those people from TH-cam and Instagram!!! When’s the next Meetup I’ll be in Paris next month! Just for a week this time. Can you talk more about the visa process. I had a 1 year French visitors visa ended in September.
- The term Cheat-Day doesn't exist in french, you can say "I take a break from my diet" (Je fais un break dans mon régime) - Yep, artisanalement is correct. - In France you can do almost all your administrative procedures on internet. Ask your lawer about how to do them. Your french always amaze me. You still do some sweety little mistakes (only 1 or 2 in this video) but it's ok we still get the sense of what you are saying. Time to open a 2nd YT Channel in French Jay ? Haha #GTFOAlexWithYour2ndChannel
J'ai aime ce format! C'etait tellement amusant. Pardon! ): )
It is so strange to watch a video during the third wave of the pandemic and see so many people unmasked and standing close together. I miss the “good old days!”
I'm glad you did this in French. You should aim to do so atleast once a week. You'll grow your audience and subscribers that way- more reasons for everyone to connect.
Bonjour Jay, Je m'appelle Rose. Comment ça va? I am very appreciative of these kinds of videos as I am learning french. Unfortunately some of the text was hard to read, the white on white, but that doesn't really matter as I am going to be saving this video to test myself along my path of learning and I shouldn't be reading the subs anyways. I am very much loving the few videos I have seen so far and have subbed so that I can see many more. I will be going back into your video playlist to find more videos to learn from, as well as watching all the new ones that come out. Merci beaucoup. Have a lovely day!!! AMB...Rose
You speak French with an accent. Actress Jodie Foster speaks French with no accent -- probably because she's fully Bilingual and learned French at a very young age. Love your vlogs, Jay, many thanks, ouais!
No way! You're fine - it was a great question. I LOVE galette des rois! I discovered them in Nice and was obsessed/wildly disappointed when they stopped making them at the end of the season.
Your French is amazing. Well done! ;) What is your current Visa, sorry if I missed that. I've been planning to apply for the Passeport Talent Visa, any thoughts on that? :)
You sound great! Let's talk about taxes, how does that work for you basically being a digital nomad? Do you pay taxes on the work you do in France only and what is the percentage and what type of taxes does it include? ie health, school
I pay taxes here and at home - the joys of being American =) As for what it includes, I don't know that I can sufficiently answer that but health is definitely covered. School (for me?) maybe not so much, but would definitely be cheaper here than in the States.
I know the format of your videos has changed over time however.. if you ever want to do videos in French in the future and you are looking for someone to do the subtitles for you.. je peux vous aider! I am a translator/interpreter 😊
Oh forget Tinder. Jay, Jay Jay.. . . the French is toooo cute. WORK it. :D :D :D I'm pretty sure you can score both ways with that - French or Foreign. Good luck with the lawyer. Hope it helps you feel like you've got a better footing/mental grounding in the whole process. Keep speaking French and maybe you'll have a French wife and none of it will matter anyway. :p
Well, you're definitely speaking French in Paris. 150mph, no charge for the slurring :) Oh, that's right, we call it "elision," don't we? You do very well. I enjoyed the video.
Jay, Every once in awhile will you show the name of the Metro station you’re in? As I joyfully follow you around Paris it would help me pinpoint where you are 😊
I try to catch them as I go into them a lot of times - unfortunately they aren't always clearly marked =/ I'll try to get them as I go though for sure.
I am way late to the party, but a very helpful way to learn the language is to put the closed captions when Jay speaks French.
This is great! I watched it twice ... once to read the subtitles, and once to see everything in the video without pause ... and it was lovely to hear it all in French, even if I don't understand that much. It pulls you further in, to figure it out, and to understand the pronunciation better. Ah, well done, Jay. I can't wait until Weds when we hear about the attorney meeting on Tues! You're rocking it! New pants, slam-dunking the French video, tackling your 2018 goals ... GO JAY!
Thanks Cynthia! I definitely have a ways to go with my French but I definitely get by =) I'm looking forward to Tuesday as well (mostly haha)
So nice being able to go back in time 6 years. My french is getting better so I enjoyed this one. Thanks Jay!
It was really great hearing how good your French is. I lived in the 19th for four years, but never learned to speak French that well. I hardly knew any before I went to Paris, though... I’m having a lot of fun reliving my own Paris memories watching your channel. Thanks!
I'm glad I can bring about some good Paris memories! And yeah, I studied it pretty extensively so I was ready to hit the ground running.
masterbiblaster merci ! 😃
I love this! Even though I only understand little bits of what you say - the subtitles make me understand it and I feel like i revised french vocabulary.
I wouldn't watch every vlog like this but if you do it once a month I'm in ;D
Ha, yeah, I don't want to make them all that often. The subtitling added a ton of work.
Hi Jay,
Loved the French vlog!! I will probably watch it more then once just to have it sound familiar since preparing for my trip to Paris and beyond in April.
Keep up the good work.
Sounds great! I'll have to make a new one sometime soon =)
This was fun to rewatch! Still quarantined in Cali, so escaping with you.🙃
Moon Kid ça sera un rêve haha
Your French sounds great! I found your channel through Cheryl's so it's always cool to see my YT worlds collide at those meet ups. :)
Thanks! And I'm glad we could provide some collision for you =D
❤️❤️❤️
Bravo dude, bravo. You’re French is amazing. With the mic you could hear less background noise and your voice sounded less tinny; enjoy!
For sure - that mic really added a lot. Thanks for sending it! I need to figure out the little mounting clip and see if I can't master using it while walking. If nothing else, it will come in handy for windy/noisy situations!
That was so nice of you
Thank you! The trick to getting your French down really is immersion - keep at it! =D
Merci beaucoup!
David Guy de rien !

Keep up the good work :)
+Malory Matignon ah bon, faire un écart. Je vais essayer le souvenir ! Et oui, le hot dog c'était top 😉
It was fun seeing the pictures, remembering seeing you take them on your vlog. Can’t wait to see which one we get!
I can't wait to send them out!
You have all the base in french , i didn't know that you speak well french. I understand very well your accent. congratulations.
stephen10 glad you could understand me! 😃
Ughhhhh WHERES the likes,I’m learning french too :) and this really fueled my confidence to go at it 👊🏼🤠
I’m going to France this summer and I really wanna go head first into the language

Yet again, another awesome video!! Really enjoyed the French speaking side of Jay. I felt as though the mic for the phone was a noticeable difference.. Sounded clearer and zoned in more on your voice with the background noises not being as apparent. C'etait parfait! 👌
It really sounds great, I agree. The trick will be using it on the fly!
Bravissimo!!!! Très bien jay!!!
+Sofie's World grazie!!
Merci =D
dude, @rodemicrophones rock, that's what I've been using since I started making vids and have never been disappointed. Great vlog (and all the work on typing out the subtitles, I know that pain), keep killin' it!

Hopefully my mishmash was understandable ;D
Jay Swanson I really enjoyed this video!! Tu parles francais tres bien (hope my 3 yrs of high school French said that right LOL)!! I'm going to be reviewing my French again this year, it's been a while!! French is by FAR the most beautiful language in the world IMHO. J'espere tu as un magnifique jour ☺️💖💓
It's definitely a language I enjoy, even if it is a pain in the butt sometimes ;D
Being a daily watcher of your vlogs and learning French now (not quite daily) but several times a week, this vlog is perfect! Thanks!
Happy to provide a little educational respite ;D
Ça me rappelle mon voyage à Paris. :)
👍👍
I love your videos, take care always and good health!
Thank you! You too 🥂
Such a great video, and you really motivate me to improve my French. Btw I just received the postcard from November because I came back to Cheney for a visit. Thank you! Good luck with the lawyer. I think France would be lucky to have you as a citizen
Glad you got it finally! Just in time for another (be sure to update your address this time, haha). As for lawyer time, I'm pretty hopeful!
I watch your videos as part of my breakfast routine so this episode was interesting. Kinda like eating while watching a video and reading a paper at the same time. Lol. Your French puts my limited "I want this, I want that" French to shame!
Jay Multiply haha, but being able to say what you want is pretty darn useful.
Love the french vlogs.
Thanks for these videos! I just subscribed because I'm inspired to relearn french and get on your level! Hehe merci beaucoup mon frère
WOW! And you speak so fast!! Was glad for the subtitles! Great going! Hope that works out to the best for you with the lawyer!!
Thanks! And yeah - the subtitles were a necessary addition ha
So nice to see Cheryl! Looks like you had a great day all said and done. It's probably best for Tues anyway.
Yeah, here's hoping it goes well =D
You'll be fine, stay positive my friend! Prayers and blessings!
Jay, I followed the link from ep 929 to see this. Somehow I had missed it, it was much easier to follow the French with your subtitles. I think I could break through to conversant with your help! Thanks for your videos, merci
Happy to share a bit of French 😁
saaalut, i love the way you cut this video, and especially the music is soo cool (:
très bon vlog Jay. Merci et passez une bonne journée !
Merci Mark!
Omg this is first time I heard you speak French.... i am so inspired I want to learn more French
It's handy in France =D
Bravo Jay, ..I'm learning Spanish at work (I have many Spanish colleagues) ...I'm working on basic phrases...one day full conversations...bravo Monsieur..

WOW! Great French. That was an interesting experience though. French being spoken, English subtitles and the postcard pictures being flashed on the screen. Bit of sensory overload....LOL

Just trying to see if you can hang in there! 😃
Pretty impressive :) maybe start listening to some French music from yesteryear. Some Mouloudji, Aubert, Bruel and the like.

The postcard/subtitle/talking bit was probably a bit intense, haha
Um, do you have more of these. I enjoy your vlogs, and I'm self-studying French so this is perfect, haha. Take care
maybe another time a viewer can contribute with subtitles that you can put in the "Add subtitle: portion of the video on YT itself rather in the video, to save the trouble of adding the subtitles before publishing. Keep up the content :) I'm new here, but cool stuff. Best.

I love eclairs, favorite pastry in Paris!!
They really are everywhere.

I'm glad you did this in French. You should aim to do so atleast once a week. You'll grow your audience and subscribers that way- more reasons for everyone to connect.
I'm hoping to do more, I just need to find the right balance (and prep to do a lot of subtitling, ha)

I think you sound awesome... wish I could speak and understand french...
Thanks =D And you could if you wanted - it's hard but worth it.
Félicitations Monsieur! Your French is very very good!

Thanks! Give yourself tangible rewards and get immersed as soon as you've got the basics =D
Loved your video en Francais! Have you tried the galette des rois? Wow, delicious! I had to bring an extra home with me. :-p
Well I just saw in your other video talking about a galette des rois party, so now I feel like an idiot. LOL!
No way! You're fine - it was a great question. I LOVE galette des rois! I discovered them in Nice and was obsessed/wildly disappointed when they stopped making them at the end of the season.
It’s a beautiful language
I agree =D
Dude your french is quite impressive.
Thanks =)
Your French is amazing. Well done! ;) What is your current Visa, sorry if I missed that. I've been planning to apply for the Passeport Talent Visa, any thoughts on that? :)
Thanks! That's the same one I have yeah - it's amazing - good luck! =D
Merci!😊
Parfait!!! Monsieur!
😁👍👍
Your french is poppingggg
Merci ;D
Trés bien! I managed to understand some without looking at the subtitles lol!
Well done! Half of the time I wasn't sure I understood myself (I blame the 3am subtitling)
love this! more videos like this! more french french please! haha
Glad you liked it =D
Tu parles bien mec, bravo!
Merci, mec =D
Yesss!!! Awesome Jay
Thanks Julia!
Arrived in Paris today, Sunday, 1/14/2018 and immediately got on the wrong train. Figures.... Great video Jay.
It happens to the best of us. Especially with the RER - so confusing sometimes. I hope you're having fun though!
How long have you been learning French? It’s really impressive and your accent isn’t that bad.
Thanks - I've been learning it for like 16 years or something though effectively, so here's hoping it's not half bad! =D
🙏🙏
Loved it. Please do more videos in French.
I'll definitely try to - just gotta mash my way through the subtitles ha
Oh forget Tinder. Jay, Jay Jay.. . . the French is toooo cute. WORK it. :D :D :D I'm pretty sure you can score both ways with that - French or Foreign. Good luck with the lawyer. Hope it helps you feel like you've got a better footing/mental grounding in the whole process. Keep speaking French and maybe you'll have a French wife and none of it will matter anyway. :p
Kaleidoscopeallie haha, I don't none that the French works on the French, but I'll definitely keep you posted 😉
Mais si.. . t'as l'air tellement sincère. ;)
you speak really good french
Merci =)
Je suis très impressionné!!
Merci Nicole =)
Well, you're definitely speaking French in Paris. 150mph, no charge for the slurring :) Oh, that's right, we call it "elision," don't we? You do very well. I enjoyed the video.
Ha - thanks! I mean, merci ;D
Vous parlez très bien le français ! 😃

"J'ai toujours froid." Same.

Very cool...
Muy bien ;D
Jadore! Merci
Yanique est magnifique! =D
Jay,
Every once in awhile will you show the name of the Metro station you’re in? As I joyfully follow you around Paris it would help me pinpoint where you are 😊
I try to catch them as I go into them a lot of times - unfortunately they aren't always clearly marked =/ I'll try to get them as I go though for sure.
Jay Swanson I caught the Trocadéro sign - Merci!
