@@WesV because baitcasters cast further, are more controlled, and feel better in the hand. As well as more power and control fighting fish. Yes you can feather a spinning rod too. You can not put your bait accurately withojt feathering. It is impossible to be that accurate every time
Just a quick thank you for the outstanding info you have provided. Yesterday I caught my tre PB in my very own pond. New tovthe sport and now can't get enough. I'm 61, and fighting cancer. So the peace I get from casting, has me lifted. Peace.
It’s really hilarious that some people actually have spinning rod manhood issues. Biggest freshwater fish I’ve caught was a huge Northern on a 16th oz pink jig on an ultralight with 4 lb test.
Where I live when I hear guys complain about it it's always some guy who is a "country boy" trying to prove something to no one who asked. The culture of masculinity in the US is just different in places where pike, walleye, trout, etc. fishing are the main pursuit. Idk what it takes to convince southern guys it's not gay to fish spinning setups. These dudes aren't fishing BFS reels either, so they're just leaving a bunch of lures and techniques (and therefore fish) on the table, and the bag sizes in the local tournaments speak for themselves here.
I learned to fish on a spinning rod. Its what my pops and his dad used and they taught me. I didnt teach myself baitcaster until last year so for 20+ years spinning rods were all I used. My PB came on a spinning rod at almost 8 lbs. Ive caught TONS of big fish on them. I still say they arent just for finesse.
Over quarantine I upgraded almost all of my hooks to bigger/heavier types. I has made a BIG difference, not just in distance but in better hook sets IMO. I've found casting method/style matters as well.
Just wanted to say thank you for doing this video, I remember the first year you went pro and we chat about me using baitcaster and you made me more confidence in using my spinning rod around tournament fishermen
Must be only Bass fisherman who talk down about spinning rods. Walleye and trout fisherman fish with them exclusively. Closest walleye “casting” rod I have has a line counter reel on it for trolling.
I got that same hat. lol. Let me tell ya man, thank you. Because of you I never put down a caster and learned. Changed my fishing. I also think the hat helps. Keep teaching my man.
My favorite rod is a 7'6" Blair Wiggins combo by lews. Medium action with 15# braid and 40# mono leader (6') and it will cast forever and a day. It will throw half the spool out with a heavy top water bait
Mad props to anyone who pulls out the Spinning Combos...I use almost exclusively those... Now of course I'm not a big time serious tournament angler. But love me some Spinning combos...I can Bomb a 7/16 Storm shad almost 60 yards and swim it back or A weightless Texas Rig Berkley General over 40 yards...Both using 15lb spiderwire braid on a 7'medium or Medium heavy rod.
People seem to think people hate spinning rods for outdated reasons. They have always been used for casting light lures. They used to not be used for catching big fish because you cant spool a spinning reel with heavy line over 20lbs or so. But braid changed that
What treble hooks do you use? What brand? Do you use a short shank trebles? I am confused because there are so many different treble hooks, different sizes, straight hooks EWG trebles. I need to replace jerk bait trebles to bigger ones Rapala comes with small trebles. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, love your videos. By far the most informative fishing TH-camr.
Mustad triple grips are very popular for replacement hooks. You can look up the sizes for the models you have, I believe it's size 4 for lipless cranks off the top of my head not sure though. EWG is harder to set the hook but keeps the fish pinned a little better, round bend is the standard one, easy to set the hook but supposedly harder to keep the fish on if they're super big. I personally don't replace hooks anymore unless the stock ones are the brass cheap ones.
I used to be like these "i dont know why people use baitcasters so much". But honestly a spinning reel will never feel as comfortable and controlled as a baitcaster. It fits perfect in your hand
Great video, great tips question will this work on heavely boat traffic waters , we have thousands of boats out on our waters during the day . chain of lakes in Illinois. ( northern ).
Hey,never thought about replacing my jerk bait hooks their stock and smaller bigger hooks will help my cast sounds like a video on power casting for yards
I caught my Top 3 LARGEST bass on a spinning rod/reel. It was also the first fishing pole I ever bought! My baitcasters have YET to catch anything bigger !
Braid on spinning reel is allowing me to throw my frogs into the jungle. I can add a monofilament leader and fish other topwater baits. Fishing baitcasters in overgrown riparian riverbed is just backlash and hanging Christmas ornaments.
This is my birthday video. I hate to say it, but for really light stuff I use a Zebco 33. Before anyone says anything I forget the year, but a Bass master Classic was won with a 33
If you dont keep a spinning rod in the boat then you are definitely missing out! I love throwing a weightless stick bait or a ned rig on my spinning rod!
I think of it like pulling the trigger on a rifle. You put the pad of your index finger(between last joint and tip of finger) on the line. Told my son the same thing when teaching him at 5, he’s 7 now and does it perfectly. Don’t put the line in the joint of your finger, makes it harder to let go.
I ain’t throwing no fairy wand…..you can. Lol. I love a spinning rod for real, i can skip better with it, im a lil more accurate probably, etc. Any time I’ve having a bad day, I’ll basically spend whole rest of day with spinning rod in hand. And I use all daiwa sv baitcasters which can throw lighter weight baits than other casters, I’ll still switch to spinning rod. Great advice BLat, Great video!!
Took me a second and a replay to remember the lyrics, but I got the first verse. Last time I heard that song was when I played my horn in my church's Easter service, 3 Easters ago.
If I throw a weightless senko or soft fluke bait I almost always do it on a spinning rod. It is just easier for me. I want catch fish and the fish don’t know the difference in reels anyway.
99% of inshore saltwater fishermen in NC use a spinning rod, same size as you use for your drop shot or Ned rig. They catch red drum on that, and most of them are beasts compared to freshwater bass. Spinning rods are no sissy sticks!
You got to carry both or your Hurting your production in freshwater .. I always have a Medium and Medium heavy spinning reel and 6-7 different power and action Baitcasters and when i know im going super finesse I carry my medium light spinning.. Not having all your tools is foolish! My biggest smallie and Pike were all Caught on spinning Rod set ups! 7.5 lbs Smallmouth (St. Lawrence River) and 51 inch Northern Pike (Upstate NY)
No one says they are not strong enough to fish big fish. That is a ridiculius comment. You can't put big mono line on them. But braid made that possible.
What is ridiculous? They have been using spinning gear for light inshore since long before fluoro and modern braid existed. They used mono just like everyone else. Spinning rod blanks are essentially the same as baitcaster blanks, before the guides and reel seats are put on them. I am just saying that calling spinning rods "sissy sticks" is ridiculous. However spinning can be better suited to light finesse than baitcaster which is probably why people call them sissy sticks.
@@jasonreddick6828 Yea I get What your saying.. Its crazy I catch big fish on both people who say sissy stick are the type that need to only fish with a $1200 reel and $900 rod anything else to them is just not sensitive enough for there fishing trips 3 times a year maybe!

I love a spinning rod and reel. There's so much you can do with a spinning rig versus a baitcaster. Each one has there own place in fishing.

What kind of Spinning Reel are you using. Can you link the brand.
Clean/lubricated reel bearings along with clean eyelets also help get a little bit farther cast.
How do you feel about supergluing the line to firm it up when you got trebles gonna try it
+1 On using crankbaits on spinning for longer casts.
Do you use a leader on your braid when Texas rigging?
