MJs passing will always be the most UNDERRATED and UNDERAPPRECIATED aspect of his game.
MJ never got that true respect for his passing game.
His scoring game, stealing and dunking game over shadowed his passing game.
Like Kenny the jet always says, MJs game is built on extremely strong Fundamentals.

@@BasketballSociety_ Jordan scoring is appreciated, they still underestimate it thinking he can't do 40 in this defenseless league. Jordan defense is underrated, people think mj is all about scoring, dunking and stealing. His passing is literally ignored until other people remind them he was one of the best passers in the 80's ~ 91 before he totally handed it to pip, during the second 3 peat and later championship run in the first 3 peat.

He is an underrated passer by the youth. Those of us who grew up watching him fully understand that Jordan's game had no weaknesses. He averaged 11 assists in the 91 finals. Mike could do whatever he wanted to do on the court.

MJ was a tremendous passer. Those that didn't know that didn't watch him play. He did what elite point-guards do - break down defenders and get to interior for easy layups and dunks by his teammates. A lot of his dimes were spectacular.

wow, watching these just made me realize what a no look pass actually is, seeing him literally not look at all for the entire passes made the look away after passing of today that gets hyped stand out in that regard, like hes legit not looking wtf. ive also come to realize that when people say make team better theyre just talking about assists, thats just numbers, MJ pushing his teammates in practice legit made them basketball players, also when they say complete ive realized they just talking about numbers again, not what actually makes up a players game like footwork, post game, mid range, defense, off ball etc. same with skills, its mostly unnecessary dribbling, i find his handles to be really underrated as well. maybe its because im an artist but when i see MJ i legit see craftsmanship, mastery, insane skill , honestly i see perfection. not even into sports but Ronaldinho and MJ the only athletes to move my soul and spirit when i watch them.

Yo thanks for the comment! Being a Mike fan growing up definitely made me appreciate the art of the game. Yeah don’t let anyone say he wasn’t an all-around player because he literally did everything well lol and played with such mastery and craftsmanship. It’s crazy how people are still learning just how skilled he was. Think we’ve been too caught up in the general narratives of rings etc to take time appreciating what these players were doing so that’s what I’m trying to do more of on the channel. Thanks again for the comment.

MJ as a point guard performed at an elite level:
    1988/89 season
Moved Jordan from shooting guard to point guard
    1st game = 15 ast
2nd game = 21pts, 14ast, 14reb in 30min playing time because they were up so high...had a shot at the 20/20/20 game if he played the entire game
final 24 games as point guard:
    30.4ppg
    9.2rpg
    10.7ast
    2.5spg
    49.8%fg%
    7 straight triple doubles
10 triple doubles in 11 games
the one game he didn't get a triple double:
    40pts
    11ast
    7reb
    61.1%fg%
    another notable point guard game:
    34pts
    17ast (career high)
    7reb
    6s
    50%
over a 12 game stretch MJ had 10+ assists
Oscar R, Westbrook, Hardin, Kidd never had a streak longer
MJ was great at point guard and played like one of the best as he still played perimeter defense (3rd overall in steals per game that season, and 1st team all D, 5th def winshares, 1st def +/-, 5th for DPOY)
lost to the Pistons in the finals...fired the coach (collins) and got Phil Jackson and the triangle offense ended the MJ point guard experiment...but he performed as only MJ does...as a TOP TIER point guard!
    For that season:
MJ as a shooting guard (57 games)
    33.4ppg, 7.6rpg, 6.9apg, 55.4
MJ as a point guard (24 games)
    30.4ppg, 9.2rpg, 10.7apg, 49.8%
Notice the increase in assists that people claim MJ can't do?
Look at MJs assists for his career:
    YR AST
    1984-85 481
    1985-86 53
    1986-87 377
    1987-88 485
    1988-89 650
    1989-90 519
    1990-91 453
    1991-92 489
    1992-93 428
    1994-95 90
    1995-96 352
    1996-97 352
    1997-98 283
    2001-02 310
    2002-03 311
his assists were alwasy 300-350-480....except, notice that 650 in there? well, that's when he played point guard...so proof that MJ can be a passer and STILL SCORE 30+ per game!!!
and check out his triple doubles:
    1984-85 NBA 3 (5th)
    1987-88 NBA 2 (6th)
    1988-89 NBA 15 (2nd)
    1989-90 NBA 1 (11th)
    1991-92 NBA 2 (1st)
    1992-93 NBA 4 (2nd)
    1996-97 NBA 1 (14th)
see that 15 stuck in there? that was his point guard experiment where he had almost as much as Lebron's season high (18) playing only 24 games as point guard...imagine how many he'd have playing all 82 games as point guard...
MJ has a 27-2 playoff rec...including this insane series
    1997 playoff run
    MJ BULLS
    31.1ppg 1st
    7.9reb 2nd(behind Rodman by 10...yes, only 10)
    4.8ast 1st
    1.6stl 1st
    0.9blk 1st
6ft6in shooting guard led the Bulls in every catagory but rebounds...and that was to Rodman by 10reb
In the 1991 finals against Magic Johnson...MJ avg'd 11.4 to Magic's 12.4...but scored 31.2pts to Magic's 18.6...I'd say being 1 assist per game under the greatest point guard of all time is a big statement...

MJ was the total package no weakness what so ever. MJ was the most fundamental player ever MJ was the best player of all generations period. MJ wasn't out there to just play basketball he was out there to kill you and embarrass you and your team not only offensively Defensively to. Two 3 peats come on not easy to accomplish one but to do two it's amazing and no other team will ever accomplish what MJ and the Bulls accomplish. Not even one will happen in this era. MJ is the real GOAT

  • @AnHebrewChild
    @AnHebrewChild ปีที่แล้ว +3

The way the triangle offense was constructed, and Mike's decoy role in it, lent itself to Mike being the pass before the assist. ie "hockey assist"
ie Jordan gets doubled, he makes the right pass to the offensive player one pass away from the non-covered man.
In this way, from 90 to 98 MJ increasingly facilitated the offense by becoming A++ at reading the defense shifts and passing to the ASSISTER. There is no feasible way to reliably capture this facet of the game.
This is one simple example of many why statistics cannot capture actual reality. (others being, effective screen-setting, off ball rotation, reading switches, assistive "box outs" for rebounding, etc. Stop and think about all the myriad of ways game play is effected by non-statistically measurable player-actions like the above.
As Tex's triangle became increasingly embedded into the Bull's offensive DNA, Jordan's assist numbers "APG" decreased. This can be seen by tracing his assist numbers from 89 to 90 to 91 to 92 to 93.
However, he actually improved over those years as a passer / offensive facilitator. As he also did in 96-98: however for the second three peat, athletic decline (not just his, but Pippen's and Harper's + team injuries) is primarily responsible for his waning assist numbers. If you actually watch games from each of the years 89-93, his level of offensive FACILITATION actually improved dramatically.
This is difficult to explain using words, or using numbers, but for those who understand offensive dynamics, actual visual analysis of game play itself proves the point to effect.
