  • Abandoned Farmhouse with creepy secret door found! Ontario, Canada Explore #16
This abandoned farmhouse sits on a very nice property on a country road. Someone has been cutting the grass on this property for awhile now but been letting the grass and gardens take over around the house blocking the front and side entrances. This house has two staircases to excess the second floor and two sets of stairs going down to the basement. The house also has 2 kitchens that are pretty close to each other. When exploring this house I noticed a door inside the main floor bathroom. I though it was a closet but once I opened the door there was stairs leading to the basement. I'm not sure why someone would want excess to the basement from the bathroom. It was definitely creepy.

    About me:
I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.
My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.
If you have a location you would like to share with me or want me to explore for you please send me an email at abandonedurbexcanada@hotmail.com and I will give you full credit for the share in the description and during the video if you choose.

Hi. Oh wow, that secret door to the basement is so creepy. Looked like a crawl space in the bathroom upstairs. I must say, this house has a very strange vibe to it. Eerie with way too many cubby hole's to hide things in. Thank you for sharing. Much love and be safe.

Ronna Kelly Hey Ronna, Yes another watcher commented that little door in the upstairs bathroom was a crawl space maybe going to the attic. I think your both right. I didn’t even think about it when I looked in there off camera. It was a plank going up and down. I might have to do a revisit!

Strange place. Looked charming from the outside but I found the interior disturbing in some way. The dark paneling and ceilings in some rooms seemed out of place. Other than the entryway staircase, I thought it lacked the charm that the exterior seemed to promise. Great explore, though, and agree the basement stairway from the bathroom rather odd. Perhaps the bathroom an afterthought and just utilizing an old pantry or something. Thank you for the tour!

There is no candle in the window tonight.
    All is dark, abandoned.
The yard is overgrown from lack of care,
    a pile of newspapers,
    plants drying in their pots,
mail spilling out onto the porch.
We used to live in this house.
    A million subjects were discussed.
We laughed, cleaned, played music, entertained guests,
pots and pots of coffee were consumed.
    We made love here.
Now the bed sheets are covered in a fine coat of dust.
Unable yet to draw myself away,
I stare at the dark windows,
Waiting for movement, sound, a sign, a light,
    or maybe I wait for the willingness to leave;
Nowhere else is there the promise
of a life like the one we had
when we lived in this house.

❤Another great old farmhouse! Wonder if the downstairs half bath was added much much later, incorporating the original basement steps/entrance. Rather than closing it off, they just left it. Those stairs have been there a long time.
Interesting, how the rooms upstairs were kind of "chopped up" into several smaller ones.
Thanks so very much Brent! You're the best!!!

The First one that has definitely been abandoned and the owners took just about everything!
IMHO, that 2-piece bathroom seemed to be put in after the stairway was done.
This one could be rebuilt taken down to the studs... But with the current building codes it might not be worth it!

That secret door is not as strange as it seems. It was probably the original inside access to the basement. The little bathroom was added much later and was most likely just put there because that is where there was a spot for it. The basement is really just a cellar and would not have had frequent use.

there a very similar house that my parents neighbour's family used to own. actually he was 4th generation in that house, born in the ground floor bedroom (in the 1940s). the government bought all the local farms to make a nature preserve... which was ironic he said, since just every farm in the area had every acre of land plowed under, they had to plant trees to make a nature reserve. the wood houses were burnt down, his brick house was just left.

Another great explore with great technique and thoughtful commentary. A large yet modest house with small rooms, (probably a lot of kids, one of whom won the hocket trophy there). The wood panelling is typical of the 1950's and 1960's. I bet that small creepy door to the cellar was there before they added the small bathroom and that was the only or best place to easily add an extra toilet. Keep it locked when on the loo for no creepy surprizes... =D

I am so curious what the reason would be for having this big house, then sub divide it in half, or putting in two kitchens?? Do you suppose it was two families sharing the same house? a canning kitchen? People don't go through the expense and work of a second kitchen without a good reason, would they??

  • @cathylibby

Pretty sure the bathroom with the cellar door was a pantry pre indoor plumbing. Also explains why the size is so small and why it is directly off the kitchen in such an awkward way. The old house i grew up in had the same thing.

I imagine that the bathroom in that large kitchen with the door in it was not always a bathroom. I feel that at one time it was the kitchen pantry and that door led down into the basement for access to a cistern. I have seen this a lot in old houses, especially the old abandoned houses in Canada abandoned house videos.

Thanks Michael, my older videos had louder music in the background and I have corrected that now. Yes I try to not explore and film places with graffiti and vandalism it’s terrible to look at. Thanks for watching 😁👍

the secret stairs to the bathroom might have been access for the servants.

The bathroom was probably an after thought if the house was built before indoor plumbing where as the stairs could have been there since the house was built. The little kitchen might have been a summer kitchen for when it was so hot in summer.

Can you imagine sitting on that toilet and someone opens the door and says...... Excuse me, just going to squeeze by you there....... I would have torn the toilet out of the floor and me and it out the darn window.

Just recommendation. Get a Mask. when entering old houses and especially cellars, black mold spores can be an issue. I would hate to see your health effected by such a neat hobby.

Not just for mold but dried rodent poop that turns to dust and gets airborne when you walk though or with a breeze. Unfortunately, There are lots of dangerous things in these beautiful old places.

I saw in the upstairs bathroom at 7:31, it may access the second stair to the attic like a secret, and I think maybe they bring the stuff bin to the attic. The next time, you will go back to the house and check it out again. I want to know what is there?.

The house felt sad to me. What you call a small kitchen. To me was a office . The basement felt not place you wanted stay down in. The upstairs bedroom with the cabinet weird. The house not bad layout. But I can't put my finger on feeling's the house needs to be left alone. Maybe a good cleanse would help. Yet I am still want to stay away from the this house. To many mix emotions.

Not so very creepy. Probably the only way they could fit in a downstairs toilet in that house. You just have to call out & check no-ones in the basement before you take your pants down. I guess anyone going down there would probably leave the door open anyway.

In my limited knowledge of old homes, I’ve been lead to believe that homes such as this had servants that used secondary stairs and entrances. The secret door to the basement could also mean that the owners made illegal liquor back in the day. Of course I’m just speculating. Awesome video. Thanks.
