In my opinion it’s better that when you test the smoke alarms in your house that you use a smoke can because the test button doesn’t test the detection system. It only tests the interconnecting and the horn on the alarm. Now if your not comfortable using smoke cans to test your smoke alarms then I would recommend sticking with the test button but me personally I use a smoke can to test mine in my house
