Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation from unprecedented solar storms, learns that the earth's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and that without proper preparations for saving a fraction of the world's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis stumbles on the same information. While the world's leaders race to build "arks" to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world.

It's all very well they saved the ship, but they literally caused the issue in the first place, probably resulting in a fair few drownings on board.
People on the upper decks would have been fine as they were in the corridors which suffered only moderate flooding, rather doubt anyone else would have been in a tight space like they were in, so Tamara was the only drowning death. On top of that, they had no way of knowing what the people aboard the Ark would do just prior to launching, so from their perspective, going through the hydraulic chamber was the only way onboard.
I love how Gordon just up and died - then instantly Jackson and his ex are back together😂
Man im really glad that there were systems to tell you when you're backing up and how close you are to impact. LIke someone went through a lot of effort to program all that, instead of making engines that can start without doors being closed.
