Awesome! This answers a lot of questions I’ve had about headdresses. What gauge of steel wire are you using? I’ve built fairy wings using 9 gauge and 14 gauge wire with cellophane.
I’m an intermediate sewer and im working for a director that would like show girl costumes for three characters, and obviously they won’t be complete without a headdress. Is there any way you have a link for a base skull cap, or have some tips to make the process a little more simple? I love the look of the headdress you created, and I want to recreate it, but unfortunately I just don’t think my skills are at that level yet. Any tips you have to make the process a little easier would be extremely welcomed. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for posting this! Love learning new costuming skills! I was curious what length the feathers are? could you post a direct link to the feathers in this video?
I wish I could share a good source! Things have changed since I made this, but Swalef and Sons still has great wholesale deals. I acquired these from a friends moving sale. They are 18” to 20” + plumes.
How is this to actually dance and move in? Is it sturdy? Comfortable? I want to make some to put on dancers doing choreography but want them to be comfortable and feel like they can actually move.
I’ve performed in mine a few times, and it works well. I would suggest not being anywhere too breezy, as the feathers can come loose (although I once walked in front of a large wind fan in mine and everything stayed in place). Overtime you may have to replace the foam base if it gets too many holes from travel. If it’s a permanent piece, you can glue the feathers into the foam and you’ll be fine. It’s very lightweight, which makes it comfortable. As for sturdiness, add a chin strap underneath if your worry is that they wiggle around. Mine has elastic around the back that I pin to my wig, but not every instance has time for that.
@@JVonStrattonthank you so much for your reply! I wish I had gotten a notification about it when you posted it. Ah well. Anyway, what size feathers did you use?
@@JVonStratton I am hesitant to get involved with the Smooth-On XTC-3d. I have some Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel (it's a spray) - do you think that would serve a similar purpose?
Excellent. Thank you 😊

I’ll have to look at what I recently purchased and comment back. It’s not super thin, but not thick af. Sorry I don’t know off the top of my head!
