In many Japanese bonsai videos I have seen artists ‘thinning’ the tree in montages. Only now after your video understood the intent and the vocabulary. Also really appreciate you taking the effort to zoom into your fingers for us to see how the decisions are made. Thank you
Hello Jelle, thank you for so many great tips for growing bonsai. I`m following you on you tube since two years and I tried to thin out my taxus and it`s working much better than pruning or cutting (in only four weeks). I`m very happy. Thank you so much!
your videos are amazing... thank you for them... when I see that you have added a new video, the day immediately becomes calmer and the sun somehow shines brighter and the sadness goes away... I'm a beginner and I'm glad I found yours profile I can learn a lot from you... greetings from Poland :)))
Ohw thank you so much! Then.. This afternoon the sun will come out. I am releasing a funny short (just a 15 second message I am afraid.!) I hope you will enjoy it!
I have been following your videos for a number of years now. I have probably been into bonsais longer than you but don’t have a fraction of your talent. I will say this much - your videos are simply among the top 5 bonsai channels in TH-cam. Your topics are always pertinent, the photography and closeups are perfect and your commentary is just spot on👍 Keep ‘em coming Jelle!
ohw, thank you so much! I *think* talent vss time spent can be mixed..I spend a lot of time on bonsai. Maybe 20 hrs a week, and analyse a lot of good trees I see. So I have worked on over a thousand trees in the years..
Thanks Jelle. I didn't know about yew species and the requirement of plucking the needles for backbudding.......always pick up a few tips from your videos 👍.
Love how you say "thinning out (not pruning)" yet start pruning just over 1 min into the video lol Dutch and their english...At 3:19 in the video you even say pruning yourself. So yeah, great video title Jelle ;)
As always..... great information. I once bought a Yew cutting from you Jelle. I'll treat it like you showed in this video. Do you remember at which time of the year you made the cuttings? Because I just found a huge female Yew that I would like to take cuttings from.
@@MokumaBonsai you can try some now and see how they go? I would protect you yew cuttings from frost as their roots are frost sensitive at the best of times
Looks a Taxus Baccata to me. There’s also various selections and hybrids available in nurseries besides the species so it’s possible it’s one of them. Afaik they differ in the growing habit and not so much in needle size but who knows? I am not an expert. 😁
It is a european, taxus baccata. WIth smaller pots, reduced fertilizer and less water needle size can reduce dramatically. It is not the species or variety in this case that cause small needles.
First 😊
Always appreciate your clear and well presented videos Jelle.
:) Welcome!

glad you got some clarity now!

This is incredible. It's just what my yew and larch needs!
I just KNEW it ;)

Good species selection, this was very helpful! I'm going to go thin out my Jaboticaba now
Enjoy!
Amazing, I really enjoyed watching and explaining you sir. Very inspiring. Greetings from Indonesia ❤❤
Hello all the way in Indonesia!
Thanks, Jelle. I'm now confident that I prune my elm correctly. I think I have to fertilise more.

Glad it was helpful!

You re very welcome!
Thanks for the great information.
Glad it was helpful!
Great to see that Yew again.
Reasonably happy with how it is coming along. Wishing for fruit
Nice video - now I need to broaden my terminology. I call everything pruning :)
haha, see the comments. I have been blasted for pruning in this video..

Sorry!
Hard to decide what should go and what should stay
Then be conservative.
I have too many favorites:
Tiger Bark Ficus
Lavender Star Flower
Olive
bougainvillea
Olive is great for bonsai I find!

Must have been mid-late spring. Did you see this? th-cam.com/video/KZEfhn6lPHM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s02-YCSeBA69GSVL
@@GrowingBonsai I've seen this 2 years ago. I'll rewatch it. I guess that I'll wait till next spring to take cuttings then.

@@GrowingBonsai Actually... why not. Taking cuttings is free after all. :D
👍👌🙂
:D
Is that a Japanese yew? I love the small foliage. My Japanese yew don’t have foliage that small
It's not japanese then..
