    I completed my yorkshire moors inspired dr who scarf. I am now on scarf no2. I realised I dont like the sound or feel of metal knitting needles,so I use bamboo ones.
    I did screw up one section so I knitted a new section,sewed it over the awful part on 3 sides and put poppers on the fourth side to create a pocket for tissues. Dont try undoing rows,then trying to reinsert your needle after 3 glasses of wine!!

      Oh a moors inspired scarf sounds absolutely gorgeous I love that idea, good luck with no. 2. I use a mixture of metal and bamboo as I do not think the noise either way bother me but I dont know what those around me think.

    You're never boring. I'm so glad you posted another vlog. I LOVE the colors of your new Dr. Who scarf. The color-work socks are AMAZING. You and Retro Claude make such wonderful socks. One of these days, I'm going to try to make a pair for myself. I hope you're able to rush through the socks for others so you can get to knitting those for yourself. I look forward to seeing what you're making out of the disco Darth Vader fabric. Watching you crochet, I'd say you were doing what we Americans call a single crochet. But, if you're working it into a magic loop, you may need to watch a video for making a chain, which is the foundation of most crochet projects. As with knitting, you'll want your chain to have pretty equally sized stitches. It takes a bit of practice to get a comfortable tension and equally sized stitches. But, you can practice making chains with whatever yarn you have: make a chain, rip it out, start again. I always find the chain and the first row of any crochet project the most challenging and I've had to rip and start again too many times to count. If you're looking for a simple, small, easily portable, useful and giftable project, I suggest making dishcloths from 100% cotton yarn such as Sugar 'n' Cream (or Michaels Arts & Craft's Loops and Thread version of it). Start with one skein of a solid color and a size H/8 (5 mm) or I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, whichever hook feels most comfortable in your hand. Somewhat loosely, make a chain of 40 stitches across. For first row, skip first chain from hook, and work a single crochet into the second chain and into each chain stitch across (39 single crochet--stitches), chain 1, and turn. Begin the next row by working a single crochet into the first single crochet and one single crochet in each single crochet across (39 stitches), ch. 1, turn, and repeat this row until you have a square. On your last stitch, cut your yarn, leaving a tail that can easily be woven, and pull it through the last stitch. Weave in your two (start and finish) tails. This should make about an 8-inch square dishcloth. Because these expand when wet, I find this size most comfortable in my hand while washing dishes. My sister, on the other hand, likes hers to be quite large, more like 10-12 inches square when wet. Whatever size you prefer, I find it's easiest to keep track of the rows worked if you end up with an odd number of stitches per row that isn't 5. I use a pen and paper to track by writing: "dishcloth 1, H hook, ch 40 for 39 stitches, rows: IIII..." Unfortunately, I can't show the cross-slash to indicate that I've theoretically worked five rows thus far, so, theoretically, I've only worked four. With the number of stitches suggested, you should get at least three dishclothes from one solid-color skein, whereas you'll only get 2-1/2 dishcloths from one variegated skein. I don't know why the Sugar 'n' Cream blurb I saw said "handwash only." I've made these for years from that yarn (and the Michael's brand) and have machine washed and dried them without issue. Three to five of these folded up and tied with a ribbon make a great gift. Once you've mastered this stitch, you can go on to another, although, some or not as suitable for dishcloths. I can't wait to see the 16th-C project you're going to be working on. Please keep us posted on your knitting, crochet, curtain, mending, and sewing projects. Hope you are well.

      Lovely thank you I am glad you enjoyed all my projects. I did only crochet dishcloths for a number of years before moving onto Tams/berets and the uteri, I don't think I every counted to thoroughly if I kept to my original chain stitch number as they where very rarely completely square but they are still doing sterling service by the sink I even made some bright yellow ones for washing out curry pots so the turmeric stains would not show terribly

    Just finished watching & it was not boring at all!! The tweed suit was lovely & the point about packing a very good one. I will be packing to go home shortly, and wishing my mother were not so generous & that I weren’t so acquisitive. I have a very large pot (dyeing) with a lovely round basket inside & inside all of that… a lamp. And packed in & around are some corduroy skirts & other goodies, like older silk shirts that I couldn’t say no to… very 90s button up, sadly nothing like an elegant wrap tie neckline…. so needless to say, I am feeling a bit like a tinker & her wares & will be trundling all that bundled on top of my rolling suitcase …. and dreaming of a small case with a wool suit & various tops 😂🥰 …. but as Eliza says… wouldn’t that be loverly!? 🥰😁 So happy to see you here and wishing you The Best with work & your very not-boring knitting! So happy to have stumbled upon you here, as I think it must've been around 20 years since I've seen you (Kentwell in the 90's.. last year I participated was 2002? Maybe 2003?). Anyway, wonderful. Elected to knit whilst watching, on work lunch break, today a Bronte Sisters shawl (for me!), although a basket of unfinished projects are at home, a 1940's jumper from A Stitch In Time Vol 1, also for me, for work, some mittens with hares on, a cardigan for my daughter, stuck on sleeve island.. and current priorities, two tiny jumpers for friends with new babies. Sewing workbench, a 1939 day dress (again, for me, for work), and a vaguely Beetlejuice themed quilt for teenage child. I'm on a similar sock journey, sort of.
    Years ago, I switched from wearing commercial machine-knit socks, with hand-knit socks from my mum added on top only for cold weather/boot situations, to wearing mostly the mum-made socks.
    However, my mum doesn't really pay attention to fibre content (or gauge sometimes). I appreciate the socks she made, but now I'm slowly adding in socks made by me after my own liking. Still wearing my other socks, mostly at home/when I'm not wearing shoes. And the hand-knit socks do get darned until their not salvageable anymore
    I'm also all too familiar with the problem of returning back to the crafting space after a while and fighting with the accumulated ideas that all desperately want to become reality now that it's finally possible again 😅

    i am trying again, im not sure what the number is, nalbinding (if thats how you spell it). i found a stitch that makes sense to me. good luck on the socks, i can finish one o am told its called second sock syndrome. natter away, i like a good natter. have you tried toe up or a short row heel? i find toe up short row heels are quite quick.

    • @stanceymackenzie
      @stanceymackenzie  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Your Nalbinding sounds very like my crocheting as long as it works for you all is well. I only learned of second sock syndrome recently and yes I am effected by it but the recipient of the socks ( the blue ones) know they are on the way so I need to keep going. I have never tried toe up or short rows I will definitely give toe up a go at some point. And the 16th century stocking pattern in the Typical Tudor has short row heels and I definitely want to give that a go.

    Lovely video! Currently knitting the button band for a navy cardigan from one of 1940s cloth bound books (possibly your source for the vestee?) alternating with a victorian garter pattern as Christmas presents for some costuming friends. And sewing is a deep red early bustle ballgown. Oh and part way through crocheting a jug cover - first time working with beads! Looking forward to seeing your progress if you have time and fingers crossed your Bernina is fixable - they were the standard school workhorse back in the 70s so the odds are in your favour i think considering the punishment teenage girls gave them! 😂

    Lovely to sit and knit with you a while - I'm working on a Featherweight cardigan - although mine has full length sleeves (thankfully helpfully knit by my past self already before I put this down for the summer) and will be a bit beyond hip length.
    As I get closer to the bottom edge, and then the neckband/edging situation, the more I think that this one is going to end up with garter stitch rather than the called for ribbing. I just cannot summond the will to knit that much 1x1 rib.

    I am in the midst of a linen dress. I had sewn it together from a pattern i made, where it fit beautifully, but forgot to account the tje difference in fabric. So the new dress was way too big. Had to take it completely apart and have marked the adjusted pattern on everything. I have now started to sew it by hand instead of marking all seemallowance correctly.

    Not bored at all--and I don't know how to knit and I can crochet only berets. Somehow you are both soothing and inspiring. And of course the Doctor Who and Prachett references are cheering. Tiffany Aching snowflake necklace spotted and is the other one the hare?

      Oh good I’m glad you liked it
      I’ve crocheted 3 1/2 berets/tams (I ran out of yarn on the last one)
      My necklace is the Uffington White horse that inspired Tiffany’s horse necklace
      You can buy a hare necklace as well maybe I should add it to my collection as I never used to be a jewellery wearer until I got the snowflake and now I wear it all the time.

    I also have a big pile of mending. I've had to make up a rule that I must mend two things before making anything. It has helped but with three kids and a husband I'm not keeping up anyway 😂
    Right now I'm making a summer dress for myself for next summer, I might even finnish in time 😅

    Bored, really not possible, love your socks, looking forward to seeing progress on the Dr Who scarf, the red does look lovely, and did you plan to make a video on making the camisole? I'd love to see you copy it, as I too have one I love but have stopped wearing it as much as it has been very well loved! All in all a wonderful update! Not much creative going on here, we just finished moving house, and still have unpacked boxes everywhere!

    I can't get my head around magic loop socks, I'm always a 4 dp's for socks and stockings. Nothing is on the pins yet, but I am crocheting a skjoldehamn hood from some brown 8ply in my stash, hopefully it's enough as i doubt I'd be able to get the same dye lot.

    I can only knit purl and rectangles/ squares. I know now to add and reduce but not well. I can’t read a pattern to save my life.
    Would love learn to make cotton or wool knee socks for my own wearing. Or knitted hose since I am a thicker thigh woman and prefer not to chafe. Spin my own yarn but not sure how much I need to do such projects.
    Working on lucet silk cording at the moment. As my uterus is rebelling and keeping me in bed for the past two days. I might need a uterus pin cushion for aforementioned purposes.

    • @stanceymackenzie
      @stanceymackenzie  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry about the Uterus they can be very rebellious, Lucet cord is also something that has evaded me for years a bit like the crocheting. I hope its proving useful as a pick up put down project. I would also like to make longer socks but I have never succeeded in making a knee high pair that doesn't roll down the leg without gatering and I am assuming the longer 16th century style would be much the same but it is something I also would like to experiment with.

    Trying a new trouser pattern (the Closet Core Jude jeans); have mashed up the two views to give a natural-waisted bootcut pair of cords, in a boring colour (a slightly mushroomy brown dark grey). Bought some fabric to make a long cardigan, but Sherwoods don't give you important information (like fabric weight), so what I thought would be cardigan weight is coat weight. So someone in a charity shop in Edinburgh will get lucky! (I don't knit well enough for a knitted long cardigan to be a viable option).
    What's your pendant that isn't the Uffington/Chalk Horse?
