Well, out there are trucks with bigger "studio" but most common are way smaller. Why? Maybe because a lot is transported over the railway system. And one of biggest states, France, is size of Texas +~10% , and then you have 40+ other states (mostly a bit smaller but still quite large. And so I guess it's because a trucking distances in US are a bit longer then there in Europe.

I do heavy haul 9 and 10 axel stuff and my old b block cat will pull with the big power trucks on the road and I have no electronics to fail. I don’t even need power to keep it running.

I ordered a near duplicate in 1982 (last year for the "A" model and the Buzzin Dozen in KW's and my last truck).... Sure miss the ("real") trucks, and wishing now that I had kept each of them.... especially with what I'm seeing people paying for them!!..... would definitely enhance my retirement funds! : )
I completely agree with you... when I hit the sleeper, it's lights out, but unlike a lot of these "steering wheel holders" of today... when they're sleeping all night, I'm motoring... and on into sometime the next day.... It is really a matter of personal preference, as these two trucks are very similar in so many ways.
31 years in trucking, and my personal preference for most of those years has been the peterbilt 379 extended hood... but I'm considering the w990 as a potential candidate for a future purchase (1 to 2 years out)... unless I cave to wheelbase considerations and go with the t800 to fit more sleeper onto the same wheelbase as the w990 with less sleeper.
As I age, I find that my "viewpoint" leans more toward practicality than "cool factor".
Rough riding trucks have contributed to my spinal troubles...
Noisy cabs have stolen some of my hearing...
And I notice more these days in little things... like how useful it is to be able to look down at your steer tire when the maneuvering gets truly "tight", or how much more comfortable I am standing up right from my seat rather than walking "hunched over" into the sleeper.
I've always considered the w900L a pretty even match to the 379 extended hood (I just always found the seating of the 379 more comfortable to me personally)...
But, IF certain deals come together in the next year or two...
And, IF I am buying trucks...
They will either be the w990 (meaning that I decided to trade some sleeper space for the the forward axle)... or the t800 (meaning that I decided that the sleeper space was worth the setback axle, and a less comfortable transition from the driver's seat to the sleeper).
The choice will also depend partly on which options are on the table for the different sleeper configurations (such as windows where I want them, etc.)

As I get older the creature comforts of the 990 are looking good and the technology is coming weather we like it or not lol. And I've always loved those top sleeper windows that they've had for like 40 years. However, I also like the amount of headroom and other space you get with the 990. I mean the T660 was the go to truck for them until they released the T700. I mean there was the T2000, not sure how that truck sold. I feel that Paccar in general was behind cause everyone else was offering the wider cab and everything else that goes along with it. The Kenworth models were lacking cab space, especially between the seats. The T2000 might have been a good idea, but I thought it was ugly and just too wide. The T680 was that good balance that they needed. Now the W900 is still that owner operator go to for Kenworth and always will be. 900. The fenders on the 990 are too high and too much gap around the tires. The headlights are too high too.
Quieter, smoother ride is better for your body, eventhough the raw feel of the old truck is better for your soul.
That tall hood is cool as hell...until you have to back into an 80 year old warehouse in the northeast and can't see the F150 in front of you.

There is no reason for hating or making that statement just because someone likes the W990. The 900 will always be a great truck and the new style of 2.1 meter cab that Kenworth has just gives Kenworth other options for newer truck models while still offering it's previous ones. Now sadly the T660 didn't stay around, but the T800 and I think the W900 as well will be around for a while.

They tried to quit making the W900 a couple years ago didn't work out to many orders for them the only reason for the 990 is the factory can assemble them with robots I have worked for KW and went through the factory this is what they want less labor and product is not that good look at the others T2000 T700 T680 T880 absolutely no quality just cheap on the assembly line I do question why they didn't have a Paccar MX engine in them could it be possible they know that engine is the biggest piece of shit in the world trust me I have worked once them never saw a more unreliable engine in my life if you want to complete a 5 day work week buy 7 of them you will have a chance they have plenty of problems and are extremely hard to work on

I AM - "Old School" - never even touched a "single stick" box until I started driving for someone else in 1996, after having been an OO since 1972 and my last two (had three) were Ext. hood "A" model KW's with V12 Detroits (which I built to marine specs) with Dbl Over 6X4 Spicers and 60" flat tops.
My first KW I bought new in 1976 and my last one, I bought new in 1982 (last year of the "A" model & last year of the V12 in KW's).... sure wish I had kept either or both of them, now.... and my first one as well, which was a 1969 359 Ext. hood Pete, also with a V12 but NA (Naturally Aspirated) and with Spicer single Over 5X4 which I bought just slightly used (only had 28,300+ miles on it) from a friend of my dads who had a heart attack just 4 months after he bought it, and had to park it and retire. I bought it after I returned from Nam the last time for $10,000. Actually wish I had kept all three, especially knowing what their "getting" for them now.... Yikes!!
As for these new trucks... including the modern day KW 900.... you can have them All.... I'll take my old "A" model extended hoods any day, complete with the V12's I built and a good set of "sticks" behind it.... FAR beyond the comprehension of today's "steering wheel holder" wannabe "truckers".... especially those I see climbing out of the cabs of trucks pulling reefers. dry-vans and some flatbeds.... it's Really sad and Embarrassing to see the type of people that "trucking", especially in those types of carriers are attracting these days.
There is no more respect and very little to No camaraderie anymore between drivers like we use to have, either.... it's really going down the toilet in many ways.... just as the country as a whole, is. Sad, but very true. Historically, ALL great civilizations have come to an end, one way or another.... and this country's time is just about "up"... Sadly! One thing that this country has in common with all the other great civilizations of the past just before they "disappeared" from power.... Mass & Gross Corruption throughout government!!

The k100e was updated to the k100g in 95 and has evolved to the k200 available in 6x4, 8x4, 8x6, 10x4 and 10x6 configurations. Slim line day cab, 2.3 metre flat roof and aerodyne and 2.8m big cab aerodyne is available. Unsure how long the k series will be produced but hopefully isn’t eventually replaced by a daf model.
