Well I'm not sure the phone the job of the midshipmen but I do know the application of the Rolling hitch
This is actually a midshipman's hitch, which Ashley judged superior to the rolling hitch. Very well done!
The midshipman's is a right scruffy knot give me the more attractive and easier to tie taut line wango every time
I think there is some confusion about the two. The Admiralty book of Seamanship shows this as the rolling hitch, as do other publications. But as you rightly suggest, Ashley and others list this as the Midshipman's hitch.

This year I will be taking over knot names and terminology . You're welcome in advance .
