After only having run in Zoom Fly3s for the past 3 years (which I love), I decided to grab a pair of the Pegasus Turbo 2, based on this video. This morning, I went out for a fast 10k in the new Pegas. When compared to the ZF3s, the Pegas are:
much lighter, but not as snappy or responsive. You really 'feel' the road with the Pegas, too. The knit uppers doesn't grab/hold your foot like the Vaporweave/inner neoprene 'sock' combo. It's hard to imagine burning 15+ miles into the Pegas.
I think the ZF3s will remain my primary Half Marathon shoe.. and the Pegas for casual run / light training days.
    As always, top vid Eddie.

Was digging through the crates when I stumbled across this video. You’ve sure come a long way over the last year or so Edd. In your more recent videos you seem far more natural, relaxed and comical. Oh, and not forgetting the addition of musical interludes!
    Great work! 👍🏻

I have both of them. I do agree with your comparison, I feel the same. But for me turbo2 is too light which make me feel it lost momentum when running sometimes. ZF3 is too soft when running slow pace and did not feel benefit of carbon plate.

Hello Prasert. Thanks for watching and for commenting. For my training session today I had to hit 5k pace on 10x400m repeats. The peg turbo 2 did great for these, I’m not sure I could have kept it consistent with the Zoom Fly 3. The snap isn’t there like in the previous version. It makes me wonder if the turbo could help me produce a great 5k performance. Food for thought. 🤔

Thanks. Lots of wisdom in the video. I think the Turbo (1) is the most versatile shoe ever for me. 2nd version is ligther, bit less support, but bit faster. Do not own a zoom fly but vaporfly fly knit and the next %. I adore the fk for racing, dont know about the next yet. Testride was not what i aspected. Bit unstable, clunky and different fit. My personal bests are in the Gyakusou Vaporfly 4% as I find the flyknit on that a little softer. Maybe it’s just me imagining it!

Great job! I'm currently preparing for the Chicago Marathon, and the two shoes I'm using are the Peg Turbo 1 and the Zoom Fly Flyknit :-) I'm doing all the tempo/threshold work in the ZFF, and everything else (long runs, intervals, easy runs, etc.) in the Peg Turbo (crazy versatile shoe !). For race day, I'm torn between the ZFF, or pulling the trigger on the mighty Vaporfly Next% ;-)

Hi Ed! Great video. I have 2 pairs of turbo 1s. One with over 500kms and one with 100kms. Strangely the flex point in the old ones its getting a bit more to be center of the shoe, so it is time to say goodbye. I honestly love the turbo 1’s for everything from 30’ recovery run to a 2h tempo run. I do have a pair of ZF3 that I love for going under 4’30’’ /km. Slower than that I feel that I am running with a woman’s hight heel shoe. So I totally get your point about them. 👍

      Hey Pedro!
I have found that the original turbo does have a weird bend going on as the miles rack up. Love the turbos, will get them out again perhaps tomorrow for a light effort.

I wear a darker/less flashy model of the ZF3 as an everyday sneaker. They do a good job here, but I actually feel no inclination to take them for a run. They feel incredibly sole-heavy, in total much heavier than they probably are. They’re also strangely large: to my feet 3/4s of a size larger than the original ZFs. I liked the older versions of the ZF, love the Turbos, adore the Vaporflys. But the Zoom Fly 3 - naahh

    • @EDDBUD
      @EDDBUD  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’s my first Hoka but I’m aware it’s not a typical feeling for their shoes. It’s rather stiff in terms of the midsole, very comfortable and thin upper. Feels like a good quality shoe in hand and on foot. Much wider surface area to the midsole/outsole than the Vaporfly. Feels more stable underfoot. No issues thus far with blistering etc. 👍🏼

As promised I went out for another 7 miler in the carbon x around 7:30/m pace. Felt really great. In fact I didn’t really notice the upper at all. The midsole and outsole aren’t as cushioned ( anywhere near ) as the turbos or the Beacons. But they are very responsive and going up hills I felt the plate helping a little.

Many people say this shoe isn’t for heel strikers, but statistics and data shoe a huge number of runners during longer races move into a heel strike as they fatigue. Perhaps not the best option if you are heel striking from the off, but the foam itself provides exceptional impact protection and as I have mentioned before I feel this shoe can provide benefits to runners of any ability. The next is a more stable shoe than the 4% which to me wasn’t as suitable for feel striking. Hope this helps Eric. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

Struggled to feel locked into them without the upper and tongue really wrinkling up and pressing on the top of my foot.I feel like my foot is slipping around in them and I think maybe the minimal heel padding is not helping. I'm wondering if half a size down from my usual UK9 might be better? I had high hopes for these shoes - I really like the original Turbos, with a couple of reservations, but the new version just doesn't feel quite right.

Sad to hear they didn’t fit well. Mine are like a glove. Though roomy in the toes they are extremely comfortable. Perhaps half size down could work? I found the lacing system to be excellent and provided really good forefoot lock. Hope you can resize and they will work for you. 👍🏼

This is my dilemma...I go for a Tempo run or intervals and usually do a 3K WU and CD at slow paces...I love doing the speedwork in my Zoomfly's but really do not like how they feel at the slow paces. I cannot really carry an extra pair of shoes with me so I usually just slog it out at slow paces in the Zoomflys...BUT...The Turbo2 is much better for doing both of these well.

Hey Monte. Thanks for watching. I had a good session this evening in the Peg turbo 2. They nailed it for me, great in-between and for the warm up / down. Managed near 5k pace for the intervals. I think the zoom fly 4 for me will be reserved for the tempo and threshold efforts for now. 👍🏼

@@EDDBUD I also ran a speed session in the Turbo2 this evening, Two sets of 30/30 Fartleks with 30 seconds at 3k pace (3:55/K) and 30 easy for 2 miles per set. The T2's were great, I usually take out the ZoomFly's for this type of workout but tonight was especially nice to warm up cool down for 3k in the T2's instead of the ZoomFlys.

Ohhh a good question. I like these!
Avoid the zoom fly 3. Not a good shoe. Have you considered the carbon x? Similar in feel to the upper to the zoom fly, though the sp has a more transparent mesh doesn’t it?
Do you want similar feel to the upper or to the underfoot feel? Hope I can help. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻‍♂️

How would you rate ultraboost compared to these 2 trainers?

    • @EDDBUD
      @EDDBUD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Both are much lighter. More dense cushion in the ub20 but the turbo is super light in comparison in my sizes. The zoom fly 3 has the plate but I found it somewhat clunky. The turbo is one of my favourite shoes. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

@@EDDBUD thanks for your response! I bought the Zoom Fly SP Fast which has a carbon infused nylon plate. Do you know how much difference the full carbon plate gives? I've just started running 5k due to the lockdown and the zoom fly sp are good but stiffer than I expected and my ankle joint aches after using these.

The zoom fly originals was always more snappy with the cushion midsole. The react changes the feel in my opinion.

Thanks for watching. Depending upon how many miles you have in the turbo 1 I would stick with that. The ZF3 is a good shoe but won’t give you much more. Consider the cheaper ZF flyknit instead 👍🏼😊

    pegasus turbo 2
    better in slow days
    very light
more energy to get to good paces
more versatile more natural when changing pace
Lack stability and support very flexible and not much structure
Not able to go to long distance
    zoom fly 3
faster you push the shoe the faster you can run
Do not handle a slower pace
more rigid and support apart from heel area lesser response in the toe area
Not able to go long distance
    Quite heavy
    Better for racing
    Did my research welcome yalls
