    You’re not supposed to put hot food in the fridge because it can raise the fridge temp and make the other food end up in the “danger zone” however, leaving that food out over night also will put it in that zone. What she should do is prepare the food sooner so it can cool off and go in the fridge before you go to bed. She kinda did her roommate a favor, meal prepping food for the week after it’s been sitting out on the counter for 8ish hours is a recipe for food poisoning.

      this! i get time management can be tricky for some but it seems to be a routine she's been doing for a while. it wouldn't be that hard to let it cool then put it in the fridge. if she's that adamant, she could have found a way to put them in the pantry or something to let them cool

    • @peterbrownjr7517
      @peterbrownjr7517 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +48

      also she was warned the cats could interfere so just bc she has poor time managing of cooking the meal prep doesn’t mean the other roommate needs to worry about the cats once a week. Imo I would pay for half the food but she NTA

    • @vivi-ws9yl
      @vivi-ws9yl 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I learned that you shouldn't put it into the fridge because then it will make the temp go higher and the fridge will use more energy to keep it cold

    • @TheLadderman
      @TheLadderman 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

      I mean yeah, but that also sounds like having a shitty fridge if putting in a hot meal really puts the fridge into a dangerous temperature zone for very long. But yeah, falling asleep immediately after meal prep also sounds like the issue because leaving food out overnight is by far an even worse idea than putting hot food in a fridge.

    • @HeyLeFay
      @HeyLeFay 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +64

      @@Lil_Yuri I mean I think the real situation behind that post is that the wife is horribly sleep deprived and stressed out and part of her just cannot comprehend that the husband can sleep through the baby’s cries. The hormones and stress of giving birth plus not being able to sleep for more than 2 hours at a time for months straight is probably literally driving her insane. They need to figure out a way to lessen her load. If he can’t do middle of the night feedings then he needs to change his schedule around so he can have a “shift” where he’s fully awake and his wife’s asleep so she gets more rest.
      He can also be the asshole in that situation depending on how much effort it takes the wife to wake him up. Like if it’s anything more than just a shove and she like has to repeatedly pester him to get up I definitely understand her frustration.

    The cat woman's roommate is the clearest example, if it was sitting out for an hr or something I'd blame the cat owner because it's their responsibility and they could be kept away, but to leave food out overnight and not expect it to be destroyed at some point is negligent, you literally are asking for it to happen.

Some lady parked in the fire lane, told them she was in a hurry, and proceeded to make a large order while someone was cleaning the slicer. When that employee had her order down, he started chatting with the next customer, and the lady snapped "Are you gonna start on mine?" while he was still cleaning the damn machine. He told her he was finishing up (with a very polite smile), made her food and the next guy's, and my friend rang her out. The lady gave the fakest "thanks so much!" of all time and waltzed out the door to her Mercedes.
      My friend came up to me with a print-out showing all the stuff she'd gotten + a single penny tip, and we laughed like crazy! People who think that's such an epic own when they were two minutes away from a fire lane ticket AND being an asswad to employees are the funniest idiots, I swear.

    To answer the fridge and hot food dilemma at 25:41, I learned in school that you can’t put hot things in the fridge because it will heat up the fridge to the point that the fridge will have to work overtime to try to keep the temperature in its normal degree bracket, so then overtime it will shorten the life of the fridge

    I was a single mom and a heavy sleeper. I made it work! The main problem with waking up a partner to help take care of the baby, is you have to fully wake up to wake them up and in that time, the baby has upset themself more and probably won’t go back down as quickly. It DOES actually make it more difficult for everyone involved. She just wants to sleep without waking up for a few hours and he’s making it to where she still has to wake up!

    • @mortimerwright4826
      @mortimerwright4826 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Okay but what is the other solution? Your baby isn't going to wake up on a schedule right? So setting an alarm really isn't that helpful. Would you just put a motion detecting or sound detecting alarm in the baby's room? Unless baby monitors already have an alarm function. I honestly just thought they played the sound from the baby's room though

    • @Bone8380
      @Bone8380 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I mean, I dunno what you want the heavy sleeper to do in this situation, it's not like they're choosing to sleep through the baby crying, and anything you do to wake them up will also wake up the other person too, and like someone else said, babies don't cry on a schedule, you can't set a timer or an alarm for this. The only solution to this problem inevitably involves waking up everyone.

    I think the wife waking up the husband problem is that she’s still putting in work to wake him up. In her mind it could be that she’s already awake and probably won’t be able to go back to sleep easily. We also don’t know if the husband knows how to put the baby back to sleep since (assuming) he’s probably never done it before, at least at that time of day. She’s already awake, had to put in the extra effort to wake up the husband, has to listen to the husband try to put the baby to sleep, and try to go back to bed after it all. Waking him up probably puts an extra step for her and (like Ted said) it doesn’t sound like he’s looking for more solutions. It’s probably just really frustrating for her that his one solution was the one that required her to put in work/effort when that’s the thing she’s complaining about

Nothing is lost in her just pushing him away so he can deal with it. Unless the baby is waking at a set time every night, there’s nothing the dude can really do to make himself wake up. Other than an alarm, but then they both would be awake again. It just seems like a lot of drama lol😅

    That second story: I would replace the food ONCE, if I was feeling generous, but not another time after that, if even then. Assuming the roomy was aware of and alright with the cats, and this wasn't some "oh, my cats are also gonna live with me, you gotta deal with them!" situation, OP is in the clear. Cats are conscious, intelligent creatures, that will do what they want. OP could technically lock them in a room each night, but, that's not fair to the cats. They live there as well. The roomy was made aware VERY EARLY ON that cats will do what cats want to do, which is also just common sense knowledge. OP made it clear that there was an attempt to train them away from getting onto the counter, even though cats are ass holes and still try anyway. The roomy did it to themselves, maybe don't leave your food out all night long like a smart person, ESPECIALLY with animals about.
    EDIT: Damn grandma, if the kids are that much of a hassle, so much so that you're trying to tear me from my wife's side as she gives birth, don't worry. You'll never, ever have to deal with them again. You won't even see them, let alone hear them!

The longer it sits between 40°F and 140°F, the more likely the food is to grow bacteria that can make you sick. If the food is hot, you need to put the food in the fridge without a lid in order to cool it quickly. Once it's cooled down, you put the lid on. I have no idea where this idea that's putting hot food in the fridge is bad came from. I even remember my mom saying this when I was a kid, too.

    My take on the 3rd AITA:
    - their eldest child is 8 years old, he's been a dad for 8 years and still hasn't resolved this issue/made efforts to change things? Also, if he needs to be violently shaken to be woken up, by the time he's awake enough to care for the baby, everyone in the house is gonna be awake + babies need immediate care and attention. He's probably TA. Would like to hear the wife's side of the story.

    • @charlotte5459
      @charlotte5459 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Yeah, I think they got close to hitting on it, but I think the wife saying that waking him up “makes it worse” is her saying that now she’s not just having to take care of the baby, she’s also having to help *him* take care of the baby. She feels that she has to work all the time either way. Thus the “weaponized incompetence” comment. From this context, I think she’s probably being a tad impatient/unkind, especially if she knows her husband is a heavy sleeper, but given that she’s a sleep-deprived mom of a newborn I’m willing to cut her a break lol.

      Respectfully, your take sucks. "Hasn't made efforts to change things?" What? Are we reading the same post? Him doing that is literally the premise of the entire post. The husband is a heavy sleeper. There is no conscious choice he's making to ignore the baby. He can't magically become a light sleeper. The wife is clearly not a heavy sleeper, and is going to be woken up by the baby crying regardless of whether the husband gets up on his own or not. Explain to me, how it could possibly be MORE of an issue for the wife to roll over and wake him up? There is absolutely no scenario in which the wife is not woken up. The wife is just pissed off and is going to be upset with him regardless. There's no logical reason for her to have a problem with waking him up when she's already awake, and they're literally right next to each other.

    • @iamthedorkygamer

      @@mythiic3198literally. And the vibrating bracelet alarm or whatever is so retarded bc it’s not like the baby is gonna wake up at the exact same time every night, and even if it did somehow work right on time every night, that’s for deaf people, not heavy sleepers. It’s very likely a vibration isn’t enough to wake him. Literally how is it that hard to roll over and give him a shake and tell him to get the baby, him take maybe a minute or two to get up and fix it, which is only slightly slower than the mother would be if she actually tries to wake him up, like???? She is the one weaponizing her incompetence lmao

    • @scarletburn9786
      @scarletburn9786 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mythiic3198 I think @charlotte5459 's reply above answers why waking him up might be more effort, though of course we don't know for sure. However, you pointing out that this post is him trying to change things IS the issue, if this was an immediate thing, I'd understand, but it's the fact that it wasn't until they've had three kids, the eldest being 8, that he's now asking her to wake him up, after how many years of sleepless nights for the wife? Has he never before even given it a thought? He's never realised how bad it is for his wife and offered help? That's AH behaviour, and who knows how many other things he's never offered to help with.
      edit: it's even worse because he said his wife said 'she does an unfair amount of work', so he HIMSELF DIDN'T think it may be unfair and offer a solution, SHE had to bring it up FIRST and it's only then he said to just wake him up. That's his wife, he should care more.

    The overwhelming YTA response from the baby post honestly makes sense to me. The wife in this situation isn’t being entirely reasonable (obviously he can’t help the fact that he’s a deep sleeper), but the reason why she applied weaponized incompetence to the situation is because, despite the fact that her husband is willing to help more with the baby at night, she is still responsible for making sure he actually does that. If she doesn’t take the step to wake him up, he won’t fulfill the role he promised to take over for her.
    What she wants is to sleep through the night, not to wake up every two hours. There are solutions he could pursue that don’t involve expecting his wife to wake up and tell him to do his job.

      I’m gonna go with a NAH judgement. Obviously the wife’s having a hard time with a new kid, though why she chose to have 2 additional kids with the man after how the first one went, idk. But the husband is also not to blame to me. I’m someone who deals with severe sleeping problems. When your body puts you under like that, it puts you under like that. I can’t be woken up short of an extremely loud noise. And considering doctors tend to go more along the lines of helping people sleep rather than solving too deep sleep, well… he isn’t unreasonable for asking.

    since nobody has said it yet the “too hot to put away” thing is a real food rule!! if you cook a meal you’re supposed to wait until its room temperature before putting it in the fridge. I think it saves the integrity of the food and keeps it edible. Don’t quote me but my sister was in culinary school and taught me that!

    • @bayoughoull
      @bayoughoull ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Apparently it can lead to uneven cooking which can result in food poisoning.

      also if they’re renting they prob have a shitty fridge and if you put hot food in, it can warm the fridge up to temps that aren’t food safe

    • @MemeSupreme69
      @MemeSupreme69 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, this is not a real thing, and you should delete your comment, because *your* advice is likely to give people food poisoning. The CDC says that best practice is to put hot food into small containers and refrigerate. IT IS DANGEROUS TO LEAVE FOOD BETWEEN 10-140° FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME.

      True, though that just means the roommate should be cooking her meal prep earlier in the day instead of right before bed.

    tbf i get the "too hot for putting in the fridge" bc if its lunch and dinner for the whole week thats a LOT of food and thats gonna warm up the whole fridge. but also just put the lid on the tupperware?? had a room mate with cats that did the same thing and i just put my own food in my own room when i didnt want the cats to get into the food. like they still sometimes knocked something over but i wouldve never asked my room mate to pay me for it??

    The logic that they are her cats so this is her fault doesn't track for me. You could do the same with the roommate. It's her food, she should be responsible. At the end of the day, it's rude to leave that much food out overnight in a shared space, and if you plan to do this, you should be communicating with your roommates about what you are doing, and anticipating the cats and asking they be put away. Especially when you've been warned and disregarded the warning. Someone else shouldn't have to anticipate that you'd do something this out of the ordinary after specifically telling them not to.
