I guess the C100 is the most practical of these cameras for small corporate and docu style productions, the image is nice enough and the controls are intuitive, the bitrate is very low but very efficient, great ND filters, great handling, great in low light, and if you are lucky you can find updated C100 with a very useful central AutoFocus for the same price. Unfortunately, the C100 doesn't output 10bit, only 8bit 422, which makes using an external monitor kind of useless. Thanks for the video Chungdha!
Mostly agree but in the case of FS100 I would have to disagree because it is surprisingly good in low light with great looking internal recording and it has the same sensor as F3 which is a proper cinema line beast that still today, looks awesome.
The micro is a better camera than the pocket by far. Crop factor goes from 2.88x to 1.8x with the Metabones Speedbooster Xl0.64, and the 0.58x makes it even wider(also on the og pocket). I have used both extensively(my channel is pretty much based on bm cameras). Active cooling, full size hdmi out, more rugged construction, much better audio preamps, much better battery life, easy to mount on a drone(i you are into that), expansion port for remote controlling, 3:1 cdng(which takes half the space and looks just as good, 60fps in raw 3:1 and prores, etc. You get a lot for US$600 used. With resolve the superscale feature makes it so that you dont even miss 4k.
Deals for the micro are harder to come by, when I was searching for them I couldn't find any under 800$. Also there are many disadvantages like no screen, need to rig it up to use so run n gun becomes tougher and also your setup becomes a lot bigger. At that point its better to just get the 4k with a few more dollars.
@@saiashwin26 they got expensive yes. but a year ago you could get one with a cage for 600. You have to add all the same rigging to the original pocket to make it 100% usable, so might as well get the better camera. The pockets are also pretty expensive right now.
@@jdsmedia I mean, the point being its very preference based. Like if you are doing professional narrative or in a closed environment and don't mind spend some extra bucks then the micro is good but if you are a beginner and just using it to learn cinematography etc. bmpcc is better. Also, rigging would make the bmpcc better but it can at least be used without a rig, the micro cannot be even used without a rig. And there are ways of making a small handheld rig that doesn't attract much attention with the bmpcc. Like using a small gimbal/pistol grip, a small lens and either carry a bunch of batteries or you can tie an external battery to the grip and connect it to the camera, this setup is very useful when making documentaries but for the micro its not possible as you need a monitor, a cage and all the extra accessories. The point being every camera will suit a specific scenario more, you can't just compare the specs and say one is better.
Great video! I would consider the Panasonic gh4 as well and that has 10 bit 422 through HDMI. I’ve seen a few with LOG upgrade and add the YAGH for XLR and you’ve got a pretty great cinema camera
Internal ND filters are more for ENG style filming than for cinema. Since Cinema camera are mostly fitted with matte boxes where ND or other filters are place. Now for a daily shooter on very small budgets like $1k a internal ND is super convenience and save you money.
On a film set anything that save time will save a lot of money, it is way quicker have build in ND then changing ones for matte box. As instead of taking several minute to search the ND and replace an ND could already use the time to take few more takes.
@@chungdha Yes forn Indi filming and ENG small crew yes, same for autofocus or click to focus, but not for any normal film crew, there is a guy who job is doing that. ND Filter is not what define a cinema camera.
It's crazy how you can get 12 bit CINE DNG RAW out of an EOS M for under $150. Compared to what you can do with internal recording on most of these cameras.
Don’t forget that with pretty much any of the black magic cameras especially the older ones, the internal battery life is absolutely horrible. But if you’re gonna be rigging it anyways you can use external power mounted on your rig.
Video capabilities are different than photo capabilities, plenty of camera capture 4K raw picture but not video I’d reccomend the xt3 Fuji film as number 1 than the bmpcc4k because the body is 900$ and it shoot FLog 10bit 4K 30fps on a 25mpx sensor apsc so you can still use adapters and speed boosters.
Agree but it’s cantankerous with noise & crop, but 2.8k or 5k anamorphic is pretty amazing for so cheap. With sharp, fast wide lens it’s fun...except in lowlight 😀
You do not know anything about cameras, the worst is the BMPC 4K and you put it as the first, the best camera on the list is the Sony PMW F3 is the only one that has a true image quality very similar to the Arri Alexa
I have explained if you looking at these prices you are also on a small budget, the PMW F3 only can use its own lenses or adapt PL lenses which both are very expensive to purchase even 2nd hand version and would leave you with just a camera body only and when you want to use it you can only rent those lenses. BMPC4k got RAW and Global shutter and it having EF mount there are many affordable lenses for it.
@@chungdha The main thing in a camera is latitude and the BMPC4K has no latitude, in low light it is the worst camera I've ever seen in my life, the sensor is very cheap and of poor quality, the Sony PMW with HDSDI output has the same quality as the classic ARRI ALEXA.
*Stuck with a Sony a5000 for a camera here* Is the 4k really that bad? Looking at some footage, it looks great. Well... Considering my standards... Even professionals like it. 😅
@@nelsoncarmenate1666 I own the pocket4k now and it got awesome way how it get dynamic range and its very smart way if you know it. If iso1250 shadows have tons of details but only little detail of highlight but really depend on scene if there are very little bright spot get tons of shadow details without noise. But super bright image like filming sky and landscape where the are little dark shadows iso1000 have tons of highlight dynamic range. Hahaha 🤣🤣
I bought a c100 last year and absolutely love it for what it does. It's perfect for my filming style and the work I do.
BMPCC + speedbooster + canon 24-105 f4L (is like a f2.3 ). Best combo for literally everything.

The gh4 is not a dedicated video or cinema camera which is why it shouldn't be in this video. gh4 is a hybrid video stills camera.
sigma fp body is like 1144$ used and it's full frame mirrorless and does 4k 12 bit raw.

Why the Sony FS700R is not in your list ?
Because prices of it is still high often see it still sold above 1000usd.

only the AF100a has 10bit 422. BUT it is no real 10bit it is upscaled 10bit from 8bit. This is confirmed by panasonic technicians.
