- Grammy Award Winner and Rock Legend Peter Frampton shows us the Guitars, Amps and Effects he uses to create his legendary sound onstage. Look for Peter's new album "Thank You Mr Churchill", due for release on April 27, 2010.
It's always a special treat to discover some Peter Frampton to chill with on a Saturday night. I grew up in the same world that shaped him, and as I listen to him, I realize that I'm still learning about that remarkable environment.
Peter is a rock legend, yes, but what impresses me the most about him is that he's always been so approachable. He truly enjoys sharing his thoughts about how music continues to make our world a cool place. That means a lot to me.
When I was 10 years old in 1976, Peter Frampton's live album changed my life. Now I teach guitar at a university and perform for a living. '76 was a great year: 'Frampton Comes Alive', Boston's first album, 'Hotel California', etc. it was a great time to listen to FM radio and rock music on LP for a kid!
76 was a great year for music....lets not forget rush 2112...first Heart album Kiss destroyer...it goes on and on
Steve Miller too.
i love how much he moves around and fidgets when he plays. really shows his enthusiasm for what he does.
❤❤❤Guitare 🎸 🎶 💯 💯 une guitare 🎸 que je ne pourrais jamais m'offrir helas.. Lines on my face.. 👍🏼👌💕💜✔️France 🇫🇷. Mais merci pour ce miracle à cette guitare 🎸 🎶 jpascal 🙋♂️ 🙏📿🎤🎼🎵🎶🎸🎷🎧
Framptons been playing for like 50 years. Go see him live if you get the chance. You will be amazed by his enthusiasm and love of guitar playing. Quite the performer. Never gets the due that he deserves.
I saw Frampton in '75. In early '76 recordings from this tour went onto his Frampton Comes Alive album. I went to the concert with the intention of seeing Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. I had never heard of Peter Frampton. Frampton opened for 10 years after. He ABSOLUTELY STOLE THE SHOW. Yes I realize he was not the fastest guitarist in the world (Alvin Lee was suppose to be), but there was an aura and magnetism Frampton had that was unlike anything I have seen since. I almost felt like I was at a Black Gospel church and I had just been "saved." I can't describe it completely accurately, but it was THE most uplifting concert I have ever been to. I would say it might be the BEST concert I ever saw.
+Jeff Feeley Alvin Lee was just a garden variety boogie guitarist. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Just a fact
God Bless PETER FRAMPTON for the Magic Feeling!what a beatiful person!
I worked at a Frampton show in the mid-90's, got to meet him and his band, and sat on the front of the stage right in front of him for their soundcheck. Guy is incredible, and incredibly nice.
An underrated guitarist who is finally getting back the recognition and respect he deserves.
Overrated mediocre & cliched.
Listen to the some allan holdsworth
The two best english guitarists left from the 70's: FRAMPTON & TROWER - they should tour together, I'd pay gold ingots to see that show!
seen frampton 4 times since the late 70's ,,,he gets better and better everytime.
amazing guitar player!
10 times for me
Still moves while playing as he always has & it's great to see after all these years!!!
I finally saw him live this week. Brought tears to my eyes.
My 1st concert was Peter at MSG 10/8/76 at the height of Frampton mania. Totally killer show and my gateway to concert going. Still love him for Showing Me The Way!
i was at that concert
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED HIS MELODIC PHRASING...NOT EASY...!
I always played melodic phrasing like you say. It's not hard. I'm a very good guitar player.
I just love watching you play. Years ago my wife treated me to a concert at aneatby venue - Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan - and you were doing a contemporary version of your mid-1970s tour. My wife isn't a fan of rock; she prefers that syrupy "easy listening" stuff. But at one point, mid-concert, she looked at me and said, "He REALLY likes what he's doing, doesn't he?" It made me laugh but it also made me think if the musicians I've seen who are just going through the motions, making the money and going home. You are one of the few who play for love and joy and I need you to know how important that is to me.👍❤
I've been a musician for 45 years (drummer) and Ill never forget when our lead guitar player ordered a Mesa Boogie amp and I stood by the delivery truck and saw how small it was and said "Goddam Jimmy, that ain't gonna cut it, it's too fucking small." When he plugged it in and hit that first note, I learned to keep my big mouth shut. Drummers need to shut up anyway. Man, what a sound and what power. We ran that little sucker into the board and it filled up a 500 seat club. .
I recently had the good fortune to hear Frampton and Rick Derringer live. They can still bring the house down. 50 years of "real" rock and roll and still rocking!
I'm so glad his guitar was found and returned to him
Frampton is a musical God. Ever since Humble Pie, he has done an unreal job at keeping his greatness alive. He is absolutely one the the greatest of all time.
Legendary...one of the best that ever played the guitar 🎸
He's still got it
Peter Frampton is a TRUE "Guitar Hero"!!!
I love Peter Frampton forever.
Me too!!!
i love his guitar! it is so freaking awesome!
Saw him alive yesterday evening and...wow!!!
Years go by,one by one, buthis good mood, genius and his unique magic remain the same!!!
Ohhh year gives me so many good thinking from that time. Canon you are LEGEND !!!
All that 70's pretty boy stuff aside, he was always, and still is an amazing guitarist!!
All I can say is pure genius from Peter Frampton! He can make that Gibson ES-335 red cherry guitar talk! I'm at a loss of words, just perfection.
He's always in the pocket. Amazing.
Phenomenal player, songwriter and vocalist.
I just saw this guy for the Frampton Comes Alive 35th tour. Absolutely fantastic show!!!! Had an amazing time!! Still totally awesome!
Peter Frampton's Comes Alive Albums are a must-have records! It's the one and only time live is definitely better than Studio. 3 cheers to Peter!
Damn dude! Obviously you haven't listened to 'David Live' ( Bowie's 1974 Diamond Dogs tour captured live at Tower Theatre in Philadelphia) or '801 Live' ( Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera's 1976 Interim group formed after Roxy Music(original incarnation)). These 2 albums are considered the best live album's ever recorded for overall sound quality/experience because of the talent and manner in which they were recorded. 'Come's Alive' doesn't really compare unless you're a big fan of the talk-box and excessive audience clapping.
Little did he know.....that his beloved les paul was still out there...still alive.
So glad he got his 3 pick up Paul back, a '59 I believe?
@@johneckerle9480 no a modified '54. The owner before Frampton had the P90s taken out and routed for 3 humbuckers.
Wasn't he touring with it once he got it back?
In 1996 Frampton Comes Alive Sold more than 66000 copies on CD I have the vinyl album and the CD.
a great example of a classic rocker.
Even though I'm 29 years younger than Peter Frampton,Hank B Marvin was my first influence too!!!
Oh & I also have a Gibson Les Paul in "Black" too that is everything too me!!
Ok mine is from 1980 but it's got the perfect mojo for me!!!
But Peter Frampton is as good as it gets!!
I wish him well with his health battles as I am also suffering with something very similar, but fortunately for me it's not effecting my hands (everywhere else is a different story!!) but I hope Peter Frampton read's this & like myself just keep the faith in human nature because things will work out for the better eventually!!!
♥Thank you very much. I'm pleased. ♥ ♥ ♥
he still rocks.. I have always been a fan
U´re SO SO SO GREAT PETER !!!!! THANX for SHARING !!!!!
I think his playing has actually improved greatly since his early days. Voice still sounds great as well....
He had crazy lead chops by the time he was in Humblie Pie, he got so jazzy on the live album.
From 5:01 "...I'm very lucky..." - and pretty damn talented my man! Gratitude, the sign of a contented soul.
People forget he toured with David Bowie for a while. Such a great guitarist.
Frampton is awesome. This was a cool informative video even though WAY over my head.
Humble pie
PETER IS A " SILENT" KILLER ON GUITAR. 💜 💜 💜
That rare tribute to Hank Marvin is so true , Idid begin to play after buying my first EP with Apache ...
Fabulous guitarist and a really nice guy to boot.
What a great guy!
Frampton can fucking play! You can tell he puts his all into his playing.
this is a VERY ENJOYABLE VIDEO
Pete owns' it!!!!! He might not get the recognition that some "shredders" get, but this video proves what a bad ass he is.
its amazing how he got his guitar back after it was missing in a plane crash some 31 years earlier!
It's remarkable how Peter Frampton and Robin Trower look like they could be brothers now-a-days, Peter looks like the younger brother. And both of them still shred
I thought his Guitar Center Sessions show was one of the best of the series.
He hasn't lost a step. In fact, I'll go as far to say that he's gained a couple.
I remember Peter at the Justin Hall West wickham in the 60s great player then.
Great choice for Peter
Great story!
I've hammed with Nugent, jammed with Slash. I'd love to rock out with Frampton.
Que bom vê-lo na ativa e muito bem por sinal, é muito triste os grandes artistas estão sumindo e um monte de LIXO assumindo seus lugares !
Capo total !!!!!!!!!
@236482 I was lucky enough to see him in '76. too..... and also last night!
This is informative to guitar players. Starts off slow but gets really informative.
this was so educational believe it or not I took notes.
LINDO E ETERNO GAROTÃO DO ROCK MUNDIAL!
Great player.
Pete you play Jazz alot better thatn some jazz guys today do!
momentos marcantes mto som
Frampton was best friends with David Bowie and Boweie's Mom taught Peter in school.
I prefer Peter's acoustic guitar over his rock styles of playing. He does have one of tbe most craziest guitar pedal set-ups I've seen. Mine is simple with 7 pedals on two tier board.
DOCE NAMORADINHO DO BRASIL E DO MUNDO EM UMA INESQUECÍVEL E BELA ÉPOCA, CARISMÁTICO SE FAZENDO A SIMPLICIDADE QUE SE ETERNIZOU.
He never lost it, he just got better!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
at 7:30 "Im a gadget freak. thus weve got this!"
OK I thought Bob Heil invented the talk box. Thanks. Cool little history lesson.
@236482 so did i , at colt park, hartford ,conn GaryWright (dreamweaver) opened up the show, i think it was summer 1976 and the concert was great I remember Peter wearing this funny black/white striped funky super-bell bottom pants..
His riff at 4:38 is amazing.
Peter's legendary '54 GIbson was just returned to him, 31 years after the famousVenezuelan plane crash that was thought to have destroyed it. Since I can't include a URL here, you can search the NY Times "Art Beat" section, Jan 3, 2012! A GREAT story!!
"Frampton Comes Alive" came out when I was discovering girls, play the 8 track, yeah I said 8 track, and they would drop the panties. cheerleaders to sunday school dolls.....oh the memories
I remember him using an Ovation 12 string in the seventies.
I just read about that earlier this week. Is that awesome or what?
335 plain top is a beautiful thing!
absolutely , what are the chances of that he has to be elated ! and hes always been underated and overlooked , he seems like hed be an awesome person to sit down with and talk gutar !
6:34 ozzy screams yeahhh
2:37 runs into bassist...his face? priceless!!! ha ha
Wow, Peter Frampton is really good for an old guy. I never heard of him before. Did he play with Madonna?
What a dopey video production!. How can you record a video of Peter Frampton and not show him using his talkbox during Show Me The Way? Then, you went to the shot when he began singing. That is so 70's irrelevant video production where you would hear these great guitar solos while staring at a shot of the lead singer waiting for the soloist to end their riff.
Just like David Gilmour their voices are way underrated
Et Tacoma ✔️🎸👌💕❤️🎼🎵🙏💜✔️
I'd love to see Peter with a Fractal AxeFx2. Scary.
langejans guitars great guitars hand crafted by Del LangejansI know Del who makes them I lived In Holland Michigan were they are made. I have a 20 yr old Langejans classical great sounding guitar with great tone
Hi everyone!! the guitar has something very special..and did survive the disastrous plane crash!
Love PF...great licks..great tunes...AND he survived being one of the most popular acts in the world!...Is that easy? Picture yourself (and me) at that age and basically being so huge you have everything (money..fame...ego worship...drugs...women)....lolz...everything....I don't think I would have fared well...Bottom line?... GREAT guitar player great vocalist.
Add Michael Schenker to the list under Hank Marvin influenced guitarists
Do you guys know the ( real) incredible story of his lost-and- found legendary gibson ?
Cargo plane went down in Venezuela. Crew died. Gear scattered in the rain forest. Some of the gear was snatched up. Turned up in a pawnshop who's owner contacted and sent pictures to Frampton's management. He went down to personally take delivery of the guitar
The Gibson 335 is a great guitar !
Would like to hear him play a strat like Hanks....
I built my own talk box a few years ago it was great but ALL MY FILLINGS FELL OUT !!
actually peter is an excellent guitar player. What's your beef with his playing?
Peter framton mastered the guitar at 11 years old. That is amazing
I had "frampton comes alive" in 76' what a great guitarist with little recognition compared to the usuals, Clapton, Page etc, I've never liked the voice box thing though.
