16 Escaped Police, Jail Custody In Past 5 yrs; Only 10 Re-arrested

About 40% of accused individuals who escaped from police custody and the central jail have not yet been arrested again, despite the fact that the 55-year-old Suleman Mohammed Khan, also known as Siddique, escaped and was later apprehended.
Six of the 16 people who have escaped from central jail and police custody in the last five years have not yet been apprehended again.
With six evading capture in 2023, the year with the most escapes was followed by 2020 with five.
Two undertrial defendants escaped from central jail, but both were apprehended again, in addition to the escape from Colvale jail and police custody. Police officers of the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI), head constable, and constable have been suspended by the state government in connection with the escape.
There are 616 inmates in the central jail, according to Chiel Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also the home minister. Over the previous three years, 317 inmates' mobile phones were seized through cell searches.
