What is rational and what not depends a lot about whatfor you would use the vehicle. What you say about that these vehicles never go to off road, that is simply wrong. Around the world, Land Cruiser for example is a very popular off road vehicle. It's not only about going to certain place, it's also about reliability and maintainability. Why the simple ladder frame and live axle structure has held its position for long in true 4x4's is that it's a structure that is simple and strong. It can stand a lot of hard use, easy to repair, and easy to modify the vehicle to fit the actual use. In my opinion, it is more rational to have a proper tool, than a cheap tool that you have to change 15 times in the time you change the proper tool once. Much better for the environment would be to build proper vehicles made to last. But a well made product is not usually cheap.
The uses of 4x4's vary very much and there is a large market for aftermarket parts for 4x4's. Usually a vehicle for off road driving, is not ready from the factory, instead you need extra equipment for the conditions where you would drive the vehicle. And when driving on sand, the tire pressure have to be lowered.

Смотреть тошно!Дастер не плох,иногда выехать на пляж.Перегрееш муфту и покатушки закончатся.Гелик хорош,но у него есть все блокировки.Но больно мало кто на них ездит на охоту по говнам,сильно дорог ремонт.Нива спартанская тачка,но даже без блокировок она чертовски здорово ездит по бездорожъю.

That is a demonstration of bad off road driving. You've drove out of many critical situation just by pure luck. Driving like this would stuck any car no matter what you drive.
At first: Niva - 1.7, Duster 1,5-2.0, Mers. G - 5.4, 5.5, 6.0, landcruiser 4 (diesel 3), Range Rover - 3.0, 4.4, 5.0. ANd later by list... Objectivity? No, never seen.
when i went to change tires at my father's Niva, they told me that it s almost the same price to change the whole wheel, less than 200 euros for four new Lada wheels (with new original Niva s tires) :P

Почему гель и дустер не прошли туже кочку что нива ;) Водятлу на ниве можно дать квадроцикл, он и его посадит там где я на нивахе проеду :) Я езжу на кваде и на ниве(охоты и рыбалки), застревал чтобы лебедить только на кваде, опыт в говнах не пропьешь.
If you only watching and don't understand what they say. They actually praised the Niva. For it's offroad capability, drive system and price of course. Also desin is very modern after all these years. Only downside they mentioned that after 40 years of production of this car, producers didn't change and modernize almost nothing. Which is a pitty.

For 40 years you simply should not produce a car with the same and only engine and gearbox, suspension, same easy rust bodywork, same shitty interior with dashbord and its features that looks like from 80'. As he says. It was huge success at the time. Even way ahead forward west automobile industry in offroad models. It was true world first SUV vehicle. Lada for city and for offroad. But not today. If someone produce a car with capabilities like this, they should modernize every 3 or 5 years. That's why potencial customer in that price range for "offroad" vehicle today choose shitbox Duster over Niva.
Is the Duster's body not the same Ruster body??? What gives injection better than carburator? Can not undrstand even today... better price and service costs??? - well, that's great achievement... The only critical thing i agree is its shity interiour. ABS - pleasurable add-on, well... First time that i hear herein a murmur onto the clutch...
There's one thing that i completely can not understand about cars: Why they all produce their car bodies out of the raw iron??? Why not snailess steel??? The car body weighs just some 300-400kg! Why not to make it stanless steel??? When you give me answer to this - then say something critical about Niva. It will be honest.

Lada is hands down best off-roader of the above. The fact that you can't negotiate terrain vs ground clearance is not vehicle's fault. Duster is still the best for the money as a daily driver since Lada sucks on road. Prado is Toyota and it says all. G-wagon is a boulevard cruiser. Too heavy and too expensive for off-roading.

Problems of Niva are low quality of parts. They broke often. And of course engine and vibrations. They can not do new Lada 4x4 ( Niva ) now because Chevrolet-Niva must to be sold too. The competition inside the plant is not possible in now economic situation , but I think it is very usefull. So they need to develop Lada 4x4 ( Niva ) as much as the can, and then, having this experience produce new car-bomb. But the price of this car will be twice higher.
Around 4:30 he said something about Differentials I think. And I believe the Niva has diff-locks, but he didn't use them it seems. Does anybody here know what he said and why he didn't use them? Good video. If somebody could translate that would be fantastic :D
I didn't understand it well because I am Polish, but he said something that with basic drive you are going to stand with one wheel rotating only, thus if you don't have a differential for rear axle installed you need a strong man companion for off road, just to push the car.
At first, he didnt have diff lock. Then it was already stuck on belly, so even diff cant help. But he mentions, that Lada is great without those side strips
Ano, auto nemá klasickou uzáverku....Ale stačí si přečíst návod k obsluze vozu a člověk se tam dozví, že když vypne protiprokluz, tak se aktivuje něco jako EDS a v případě prokluzu nezatíženého kola,se síla přenese na stojící zatížené kolo.. Na mém Dustru to funguje..
Dacia Duster za ty peníze není špatné auto ale jen z jediného důvodu bych si jej nekoupil a to že není pozinkovaná karoserie to si myslím že v dnešní době by to mělo být automatické

Here in brazil, the Duster engine is stronger than the european version (the european version was modified to produce less carbon, be more friendly to the environment.), here, there was no such modification. It's also sold by renault. it's amazing. With enough power to face our insane hills around here.
Docela respekt co to auto dokáže, ale v rukou lepšího řidiče by zvládlo i víc a hlavně srovnávat Duster s Evoqem v jízdě je uplná šílenost. Ale podle toho jak Doster držel na videu v zatáčkách se mi nezná uplně špatný na silnici.

Miss working on Lada's The Niva was a very capable off road vehicle. Not bad for a vehicle that was originally built for Russian Farmers to use. Dacia is just a rebadged Renault... Also used by Nissan.. there all the same. And you cant compare these ultra modern build cars to an old Niva. Would have been better if you used one of the latest Niva's that i think is based on a Jeep as Lada is owned mainly by General Motors. Wish this video had translation on it.
+Béla Balog well, that's the idea. It won some contests versus different all terrain vehicles and it suddenly went into bankruptcy. I am Romanian myself and I didn't believe it was such a good car until I rode in one in the mountains. Besides the lack of Land Rover comfort and hundreds of horse power it is a truly very capable car.

I understand but think about this. Same could be for talking about cars, cause children, mothers, even families die in car crashes and people talk (and even joke) about it. Don't get me wrong, I am against rape and car crashes but we can't keep everything to ourselves and not talk about anything cause it might just upset somebody. Just live your life and try to be optimistic and look for the positive things in life cause that's how you achieve happiness.
Good to see the old Niva again, but isn't it only sold in Russia now? Good off road terrible on. It was great to see how capable and durable the Duster was, keeping its head with vehicles £100,000 more. Why didn't you use a Defender or Discovery? Probably the most capable off road vehicles around today.
Only problem with the Discovery is its durability.. Also I would be scared to go offroading in a 60 k + vehicle, same goes for the new landcruisers though
sad to see so many good comments about dacia when i saw that lada just humiliated these show off vehicles big time!!! it cost even half than them and is much more combat and light despite the fact that the guy who drove it wasn't that good.... all i saw is fancy sits, touch screen, plastic exterior and way to heavy vehicles wow good vehicles mercedes and dacia for those who wanna show off that they have off road vehicles while they drive on clean road surface because these two aren't off road at all....

when the lada is driven by an experienced and competent offroad driver it will do twice as much as it looks to be able of, i had one and i loved it
Problem with lada is low quality. You always have to repair something. It's not as good as it was in Soviet union
Cinsidering the Dacia costs 25%-30% of the cost of the others it does pretty well.
Perhaps if they knew how to drive off road it might help.

Around 4:30 he said something about Differentials I think. And I believe the Niva has diff-locks, but he didn't use them it seems. Does anybody here know what he said and why he didn't use them?

I didn't understand it well because I am Polish, but he said something that with basic drive you are going to stand with one wheel rotating only, thus if you don't have a differential for rear axle installed you need a strong man companion for off road, just to push the car.
At first, he didnt have diff lock. Then it was already stuck on belly, so even diff cant help. But he mentions, that Lada is great without those side strips

Ano, auto nemá klasickou uzáverku....Ale stačí si přečíst návod k obsluze vozu a člověk se tam dozví, že když vypne protiprokluz, tak se aktivuje něco jako EDS a v případě prokluzu nezatíženého kola,se síla přenese na stojící zatížené kolo.. Na mém Dustru to funguje..

yeah. Here in brazil, the Duster engine is stronger than the european version (the european version was modified to produce less carbon, be more friendly to the environment.), here, there was no such modification. It's also sold by renault. it's amazing. With enough power to face our insane hills around here.

Docela respekt co to auto dokáže, ale v rukou lepšího řidiče by zvládlo i víc a hlavně srovnávat Duster s Evoqem v jízdě je uplná šílenost. Ale podle toho jak Doster držel na videu v zatáčkách se mi nezná uplně špatný na silnici.

Miss working on Lada's The Niva was a very capable off road vehicle. Not bad for a vehicle that was originally built for Russian Farmers to use. Dacia is just a rebadged Renault... Also used by Nissan.. there all the same. And you cant compare these ultra modern build cars to an old Niva. Would have been better if you used one of the latest Niva's that i think is based on a Jeep as Lada is owned mainly by General Motors. Wish this video had translation on it.

+Béla Balog well, that's the idea. It won some contests versus different all terrain vehicles and it suddenly went into bankruptcy. I am Romanian myself and I didn't believe it was such a good car until I rode in one in the mountains. Besides the lack of Land Rover comfort and hundreds of horse power it is a truly very capable car.

I understand but think about this. Same could be for talking about cars, cause children, mothers, even families die in car crashes and people talk (and even joke) about it. Good to see the old Niva again, but isn't it only sold in Russia now? Good off road terrible on. It was great to see how capable and durable the Duster was, keeping its head with vehicles £100,000 more. Why didn't you use a Defender or Discovery? Probably the most capable off road vehicles around today.
Yeah, the Defender is great. Too bad they're gonna stop selling it because the pollution/fumes that the car makes are too high for Europe.

Only problem with the Discovery is its durability.. Also I would be scared to go offroading in a 60 k + vehicle, same goes for the new landcruisers though

sad to see so many good comments about dacia when i saw that lada just humiliated these show off vehicles big time!!! it cost even half than them and is much more combat and light despite the fact that the guy who drove it wasn't that good.... all i saw is fancy sits, touch screen, plastic exterior and way to heavy vehicles wow good vehicles mercedes and dacia for those who wanna show off that they have off road vehicles while they drive on clean road surface because these two aren't off road at all....
dacia is not a show off , it s quite cheap not as good as lada niva in the offroad but much more confortable
