  • Here is a complete speed run of Final Blow for the Japanese Sega Mega Drive while using Detroit Kid, in celebration of Boxing Week 2013 here in Canada.
This game was originally an arcade game that was later ported to the Japanese Sega Mega Drive, among other consoles, and then morphed into James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing for the Sega Genesis and European Sega Mega Drive respectively.
Final Blow differs from James "Buster" Douglas in the following ways:
-Detroit Kid was replaced by James "Buster" Douglas in "Buster"
-There is only one round per fight, lasting 3:00 minutes in total, whereas there are three 1:30 minute rounds in James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing
-The timer counts quickly upwards from 0:00 to 3:00, while the timer counts slowly downwards from 1:30 to 0:00 in "Buster"
-Referee is a slower counter compared to how he counts in "Buster"
-Player is given a Game Over after losing once, while the player is given a Rematch following a loss in "Buster"
-There is no difficulty option compared to "Buster" where the player can choose between playing the game on Easy, Normal or Hard.
-The fighters don't regain any energy during the fight until they are knocked down, while energy is regained in "Buster" when either wasting time or not taking any damage
-Player is unable to clinch the opponent for a Break by simply holding down the appropriate button and must properly time the button pressing instead, which is definitely harder than doing so in "Buster"
-A TKO is known as a 3 Down in Final Blow. Makes the double down seem so much smaller in comparison!
-Some of the game ending images were slightly altered, especially in terms of King Jason's facial features compared to how he looks in "Buster", as he seems more menacing
Played by Daniel "DTysonator" Teixeira on an official Sega Genesis console while using a Mega Drive game converter and a regular 3 button Genesis controller, with absolutely no cheating as always, 'cause winners don't use cheats!

Nice speed run. How do you do prevent the computer player from continuously punching you all the time.

I'm sorry for not replying back to you sooner! In order to prevent the computer player from continuously punching your fighter, you must either fake them out with dodges and then counter punch accordingly, as I did during this run, or you can use the clinch by getting in close to your opponents and pressing the appropriate button combination for several seconds, until the referee steps in to separate the fighters. It's a bit more awkward to use the clinch compared to the "Buster" game though, unfortunately!

I think they should have kept Detroit Kid in James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing and have "Buster" Douglas as an extra playable character instead of a replacement. Nice run by the way, DTysonator. I played this before and it is much harder than the "Buster" Douglas version.
