No. 2 - II. Larghetto con espressione. So beautiful! Clementi is a very interesting case - some of his best work is not that well known, maybe because people assume that composers always get better the longer they compose? Clementi had a very long career in composition, and his style changed, but can one really say that he got *better* ? Didone Abbandonata (Op. 50, No. 3), for example, is often criticized as boring, monotonous, and lacking inspiration. Whether or not one agrees with such critiques, it seems that Clementi's earlier works are less prone them. At any rate, Clementi never ceases to amaze me. I steered away from listening to these earlier sonatas for a while because it was hard to find recordings on modern pianos like this (nothing against fortepianos - but they can become tiresome on ears accustomed to Steinways).
I’ve always played the Clementi sonatas with great pleasure. I’m surprised so few pianists put them on their repertoire.
The Andante of no. 1: clear inspiration for Haydn for his sonata Hob: 48, Andante con Espressione?
Mhm... hard to tell. There are some clear similarities I can see, but the 'spirit' of the two pieces is different.

Truly a underrated composer! Sometimes history has its favourites, and Clementi was not one of them haha
God damn this is some incoherent rambling
@@minghaolu2505 There's nothing incoherent about it, maybe just read it again (or ask questions) if you didn't understand. Merry Christmas!
