HP came out with an update to the Spectre x360 in late 2020 and added a 3:2 aspect ratio OLED display. They kept the very attractive gem-cut design and 2-in-1 form factor.
I decided to pick one up and review it for those looking for a high-end ultrabook. The x360 Spectre model I reviewed comes with a 3000x2000 OLED display, 1,000GB SSD, 16GB RAM, and an Intel Tiger Lake i7.
Overall, this HP Spectre x360 14 is one of my favorite PCs that I have ever used. The combination of power, speed, and portability is one of the best I have seen on a PC. The only slight disappointment is battery life.

I will be using for RAW photo (but not video) editing with Lightroom. Any thoughts on if I will need a separate monitor? (They don’t seem to match the 3:2 format though)If so, ideas for one. I don’t do gaming either btw.

I like the 3 x2 resolution. I had to return the Eny model because I did not like 1920 x1080. The downside is the battery I wish it was better

I'm a little bit late, but thank you very much for you review! I was having a hard time choosing between the 1920x1200 or the 3000x2000 and with you input about battery life I will be going for the 1920x1200 for the extended battery life, since I will mostly use it in College.

Have you been able to replace the SSD?
We bought one that arrived with a HW issue diagnosed by online HPa support. Returned for repair on new laptop, HP did nothing more than reinstall all SW. returned to us with same HW failure. Sent item back, replaced with a new laptop that had serious cosmetic damage and hinge damage, neither occurring during shipping. Returned and now replaced by the 3rd new laptop. 3rd Spectre still had one hinge that is not quite right but serviceable. After many hours on the phone with being passed from dept to dept trying to resolve the issue I can only say I would not purchase another HP laptop after my experience. 🤔

The aspect ratio is really exciting. But why manufacturers aren't giving us 1080p Webcam?
I'm honestly not sure... may be a way to keep cost down or there may be an issue with fitting a 1080p webcam in that thin of space.
I guess those with a need for a really high quality webcam easily can buy an external.
I saw another review complaining the fans were loud when watching videos and that the speaker sound was low. Was this something you experienced?
Not loud but somewhat noticeable
I think Linux Mint Cinnamon Will run flawlessly on this machine and substancially improve my programming workflow.

Sadly they removed the HDMI port in the new version and added a usb-c port. You can actually buy a hdmi to usb-c cable to connect it
Good review, with the 3000x2000 display what is the display scaling set to? 175% or more. Is 100% readable, or is it way too small?
Thanks! I don’t mind 100%. But it largely depends on your eyes.
Its set to around 250%. Thats the "recommended" display.
Its a joke that amount of zoom because you end up with a resolution of something like 1368x900.

@@brandoneleven a mate has the older x360 (6th gen intel) with IIRC 2560 x 1440 and thats set to 175%, its unusable for us oldies at 100%.

Hello i am hesitating between this hp spectre or the asus zenbook s with the same specs. Which one should I choose ?
Yeah same I was thinking of either getting the duo or the spectre. Leaning towards the duo more because of the second screen though.
In future, could you please mention:
1. Which power mode you were using. HP Spectres' have four different power modes that greatly impact battery life. The power modes are not the settings that appear on the task bar's battery icon;
2. If battery saver was on/off;
3. What level of screen brightness you were using. Going down in brightness improves battery life at a marginally decreasing rate (think child's slide in a playground);
4. Whether or not apps were running in the background. If yes, how many and watch ones;
5. What chip your Spectre has (U-series is for efficiency, H-series is for performance, G-series is in the middle).
At 50% brightness with no apps open in the background, power saver on, and power mode on balanced, I get between 12-13 hours of continuous TH-cam viewing on my 15-inch HP Spectre x360 (11th gen G-series chipset). Without this degree of specificity, reporting a laptop's battery life is at best not very useful and at worse extremely misleading. Keep up the good work...

@@gregwarren1538 😭 we both regret, the colour actually looks better than expected though, its a nice deep brown in my opinion. Really unique. The finger prints are still a put off, anyone who is considering should be warned 😭

It is one of the worst laptops in India that have a faulty design and the display appears blurry for most of the non Microsoft apps.
Never buy this..fan issues..it ll get blue screen within months
Am I the only person that just thinks its way to blingy to be taken seriously? If I was a businessman that last thing I would want to do would be to whip this this out of my bag at a meeting. I think its more suited to teenage girl or a student.
