nice video Warren I learned a lot when I got thrown to the wolves and had to play for my church. Our musician left and some moments just can't be filled by tracks. I've only been playing for a year but now I'm playing every Sunday. I have a lot to learn but when I lean on God and not my own understanding that's when I do my best work.

You are so right that putting yourself out there is the most important thing for any musician. All of the biggest leaps I've taken in my playing has been when I know that I'm going to be on the spot in public--regardless of whether it was piano, guitar, other instruments, singing... Often, I've figured something out for the first time when I am in the middle of a performance.

Thanks, Warren. Discipline is where it's at! I agree with you, because you gotta get out there. The more time you spend playing with an audience, the less you feel your nerves, and the more you feel the music.

Merci beaucoup for this, especially that last tip.
But I've become pretty much of a recluse and don't have a lot of friends. But I do have several cats. I asked them if I could sit down at their piano every once in a while, and they weren't too kind since they have a successful You Tube channel and crank out videos like their nine-lives depended on it. I bought them some fish heads from my local Fish Shoppe, and while they were distracted, started playing. I made mistakes also, but kept at it. They expressed their gratitude by licking my face, but after eating those fish heads I became even more or a recluse.
But I'm making progress on the piano, and that's the goal.

I absolutely love this. I can definitely relate. My very first time of playing was for Youth Sunday 4 years ago at age 14. I was very nervous, but the applauses made me feel so much better. I always ran to the musicians after church with a long list of questions. I am much better now than I was then, but Im still learning. Great video Warren. I really enjoyed it!!!

My first time showcasing my skills was at a youth bible camp. It was for a contest and so i joined together with my two friends, but i wasnt that good, one of those friends actually just taught me how to play the song. And so after the contest id say i was fine, only one mistake but one of officers of the camp suddenly pitched an idea "what if everyone who took part in the instrumental contest should all accompany the hymns of the service?". And since i was the only one who played the piano, i was automatically picked to be the one playing the piano in front of more than a thousand people. Everyone singing were frequently pausing to hear what key it was and i felt bad because in each and every song i just tried to hit any chord i pausibly know, i dont even know what key we were in. I was so embarrassed. But it motivated me to practice more. Fast forward to now, im still bad at playing the piano haha but thanks for the lessons warren God bless

Hello Warren, thank you very much for the amount of free quality content you're providing. Thats really amazing for people, who want to learn piano on their own!!!!
Have you maybe an advice, on how to practice efficient in all keys? I'm not sure about, how long to practice in one single key.
All piano teachers say, you have to be able to play every chord, progression and song in all 12 keys. So I struggle with my schedule, because I try first to master every melody, chord progression, improv exercise and voicing in one key. But if I only start to play in other keys, when I mastered every chord progression and exercise I know in one key, I would never start playing in other keys...On the other hand it would get quite boring, if you just start learning a new progression or song, once you mastered it in all 12 keys and you play the same stuff for months just in different keys.
So to summarize my question: Do you think its more efficient to transponse a certain technique as soon as you can in other keys, or is it better to get solid with several techniques, progessions and songs in one single key, before transposing everything? Same for repertoire...Should I be able to play a song in every key, before learning a new one?
I would be really thankful, if you could tell your approach on these things
    Thank you in advance!

My bro, could you do a video about fingering? So when I a get to the chord practicing session, i would know if my fingering is right (like should be always a x type of fingering when playing C chord or so) so I don’t get stuck at fingering things when I start to add extensions or so.
Basically fingering would be a great video for beginners wanting to develop the skills as so!
    Thanks Warren!
