I still can’t believe just how well it cleaned up! I’m glad to have this awesome display and share it as well. I’ve seen many displays like this in poor shape, but alongside the box, it really looks like I managed to get it straight from 2003! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! Still can’t believe how it’s in such good shape. Even with cosmetic damage though, the display itself holds up really well. Hope it works well for you!
Thanks! Definitely, you just don’t see stuff like this anymore. Even with modern hardware outperforming these old setups, the design alone will always be cool.
Some of these old Apple displays were so so so so so ahead of their time. They were beautiful. Way too expensive for your average user though. They WERE ultra quality, but the prices were insulting almost.
Whether it’s a CRT or LCD, these old displays are still fantastic! I’m glad I’m able to use this awesome ADC display alongside the G5 but this would have been an extremely expensive setup when new. At least they are much easier to get nowadays but the quality is fortunately still the same! Not to mention the design, crazy to think that this is an old display, it still holds up well!
@@TheOriginalCollectorA1303 Funny enough, the way i got mine was i ordered one with a G5. the order for the G5 got cancelled, not the display. so i ended up having to get the dvi adapter and i use it for a variety of computers
It’s nice that they made the ADC to DVI adapter, definitely makes it more useful alongside other systems. It’s awesome to use ADC with an old Mac but it also means you can use this with anything.
I remember seeing these when they came out in a computer fair locally. Attention grabbers for sure but oh so expensive. Beautiful industrial design by mr. Johnny Ives the best era in Mac history design wise. Cheers.
I’m sure they were unlike anything else at the time! Even alongside modern displays, this still looks super cool. The best part nowadays is that while they still look the same like when they were new, at least they don’t have the same price tag! Of course they might need some maintenance like a good clean, but it’s certainly worth it!
I had a 20" and a 23" Acrylic display back in 2009, but unfortunately the legs broke on both if them. I still love 'em, I have to get one or a pair again.
It’s unfortunate how the adjustable leg can break, it’s not the worst thing but it sure makes it inconvenient to say the least. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a 3D printable version to replace it though, that is one way to easily fix it apart from getting a good condition original. Considering the age of the display, it still is great to use and has an excellent image!
@@haramaschabrasir8662 could be 2003 then. It still works. The setup is gorgeous albeit very heavy. I even bought some cable that let me hook up the monitor to a regular PC DB15 (or DB9) video port the graphics cards had back then. (Dviator or something it was called) Apple made some really beautifully thought out computers and monitors and keyboards. The one button mice however was a bit of a miss imo
These old Macs and even old versions of Windows are awesome to use. The ADC adapter is a cool thing to have, at least it makes the ADC displays useful for other setups also.
I have the same monitor in excellent aesthetic and functional condition. The only thing I'm missing is the power supply, which would allow me to use it even with those Macs without an ADC output. But given certain prices I think I'll build it myself. Of this monitor model, which uses the same panel as the Silicon Graphics LCD monitor, there is the next version which has the new 1920x1200 pixel panel.
Nice! It looks fantastic with it cleaned up, they are excellent displays both in design and function! The ADC adapter is cool, nice that Apple made them at all. I don’t know what I’d use it for considering I can use ADC directly, but it would be convenient for non supported Macs. Interesting to know that, the LCD is excellent and still looks great!
It’s obviously no replacement for modern hardware, but I do like using older systems like this. It’s cool to use old versions of OS X, or also old PCs with different versions of Windows. Lots of old software exist for these Macs and I want to use them more. I already use Mac OS Lion for iTunes alongside old iPods and other iDevices and that’s considered obsolete. But it still works great!
It’s a fantastic LCD. If you are referring to when I mentioned the acrylic CRT display, I said that the design is also just as cool as this LCD version.
let me tell you a funny thing i found that acrilyc 17 crt cinema display brand new at some trash bin i carried it to my home which was very heavy then it came with one cable so i sold it so someone for very cheap and the guy who bought it from me told me that monitor is working fine and i got so sad cus i did know it works with old mac mini lol
A brand new CRT version? Nice! They are great for PowerPC Macs but unfortunately can’t be used with the DVI adapter as far as I know. It would be cool to have one of those also but I’m happy to have the LCD version, they are excellent displays!
@@TheOriginalCollectorA1303 yes same cable is for power and graphic thats why someone throw it away which my monitor was very clean and brand new but we were so young back then and nobody knew it was expensive tech still is i got so sad that i sold it for very very cheap toa computer seller he came took it with a car and messaged me 2 days later while its working i remember i got so sad heart broken
The cable is nice to have, but only as long as you can actually use it. CRTs in general were seen as obsolete as soon as flat displays became more popular. Many have gotten rid of old tech only to want it back, CRTs are still out there, you might be able to find one again!

To be fair, technology was changing faster than it does now, plus videos like this weren’t around to talk about cool stuff like the display. At least they don’t have the same price tag anymore, they were not cheap!
I looked around for months and never ever seen a well-preserved unit like this one. Absolute piece!!!

What a score. I just picked one up and its all scratched up but I'll still use it.
Thanks! Still can’t believe how it’s in such good shape. Even with cosmetic damage though, the display itself holds up really well. Hope it works well for you!
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. Excellent!
Thanks!
Awesome vid. I never get tired of looking at their acrylic builds. They just don’t make them like they used to.

I still have this. Along with the powermac g5 1.8GHz from ~2001 or 2002. The monitor still works.
Nice! It works so well with this era of PowerMacs, crazy to think how old some of these Macs and accessories are.
The G5 came out in late 2003, the single 1,8 GHz in early 2004.
