Compost tea does work! I made some for my garden. It hasn't been budging much all season with the fertiliizers I was using. I didn't have air pumps. But I put water in my bucket ,let it sit for 24 hrs ( have city water) then put compost from my bin in , put some handfuls of our guinea pig poo and stirred like mad for the first 12 hrs, then stired like crazy all day the next 12 hrs and continued to stir it while I was pouring. Two days later my plants just grew and bloomed so much! I can't agree more with these guys. Give it a try and see. I'd love to try Boogie Brew, couldn't afford it this year, maybe next year :)

Thanks for the great video. I am confused though. I am in the process of reading "Jadam Organic Farming - The way to Ultra-Low Cost agriculture" by Youngsang Cho. I've made my own micro organisms (Fermented lacto and indigenous) for about 5 years and also used Fermented Plant Juice with wonderful results. I'm sure your brew works and is wonderful for the garden. The Jadam method of fertilizer uses petrification (plant matter and water)for it's fertilizer which is anaerobic. The book and youtube videos say that aerobic micro organisms are only found in the top 1-2" of soil but the roots are much lower in the soil and the micro organisms at the root level are anaerobic. For micro organisms, he uses boiled potatoes, sea salt and leaf mold from the base of a mountain or a forest. When done properly with the correct amount of these ingredients and non chlorinated water, there is no need for aeration. Obviously, there is much more to Youngsang's methods. His results are truly remarkable and yes, the putrefied fertilizer stinks. One of the reasons is that he applies his micro organisms 4 times before he plants. I live on the Washington coast on a sand bar. I am doing Hugelkulture with world's largest kelp. Hugelkelp. Kelp logs next to the Red alder logs we have here. Haven't seen anyone do that yet. I put a ton of other stuff in there as well, rotten logs all broken up to wood chips mostly red alder and old dead huge blackberry stalks, marsh fronds, dead dry hollow reeds, marsh muck for microorganisms, leaves, native soil ( there is some in thin layers around rotting material in the woods). We have a lake too. Some rotten broken up red cedar with mycelium on it, mushroom compost mixed with a bit of topsoil, oh I put the bull kelp I where I could fit the end in the wood chipper. Works great! Also make seaweed tea I want to charge biochar with. I am learning about biochar.
Can you talk about the Ocean ecosystem and using seaweed/algae as a nutrient source? Found materials. Scarcity of materials and maybe some words on cultivating mushrooms. Innoculating my garden is the plan. I have the climate.
I looked up Terra Pretta Amazon Black soil. They found algae in the soil. Kelp at least is actually algae! The only place on Earth u can find all the nutrients and minerals on the planet is in seaweed because the minerals and nutrients wash down the land into the rivers and oceans where it's taken up by the seaweed. Seems a no brainer to me they used seaweed from the river even.
I am new to gardening & learning while documenting my garden building experience with my new Go Pro I got for Christmas. Hopefully I can get enough subscribers to livestream when I start making videos. I am excited to see how kelp logs do in a garden bed. 100% agree with you. Unless you have the time and means to spread 1/2 inch of actual compost to your lawn/garden/trees twice yearly, you need to use compost tea about once a week, during the growing season. Less work, less prep, all organic gains ! ! ! Just do it ! ! !

I can't believe so many people complain about this video. Hey, John is always trying to HELP people grow awesome food and that helps the planet too. Why do you expect him or his guest to be perfect for your standards? If you like it say so, but please, stop complaining about petty details when the world and people NEED so much help and these guys ARE helping! Complaining helps nothing. I love the passion that both of these men have for not only growing good food, but HELPING people do it too! They are living their talk. I respect that in anyone and no they dont have to be a certain way for me to still appreciate their intentions. And the product IS really good, besides everything else.

Great to see another vid with Josh. I always learn something new about compost tea.
Surprisingly there are a lot of negative comments. Not used to seeing that with John's videos. I worked on an organic farm for a few years and we always made and used aerated compost tea. It worked well for us because we had superior compost. Now that I'm a gardener I find that I my compost goes from good to just ok. To compensate I get my tea from Boogie Brew per John's recommendation. It's a great product and while my plants aren't "dancing" they are def. stronger and produce for longer than if I hadn't used it. But there are always other factors at play. For example you could have a unusually hot/cold summer, or a bad year with pests, etc. Compost tea won't solve all your problems but it will help the soil, no doubt. In a nutshell I don't grow plants as much as I grow my soil.

idk how people can call this dumb, this video helps people... just because some people (or trolls) make their own tea too does not mean everyone else can or wants to. Not everyone wants to have a bunch of 50# bags of amendments sitting around at their house or especially apartment. John is just trying to help people who are not in the know... i guess haters are always going to hate.
I make my own organic Tea brew for my plants using Insect Frass and Down To Earth amendments and now adding Bokashi into my mix
Interesting, bet the frass is excellent for the microbes

I always learn something new from your videos. Always informative and filled with positive messages and passion. I always smoke a phatty of my homegrown to your vids and just recently started my backyard garden thanks to you guys Im going all no till in raised beds. Teas are liquid Gold.
So I had some trouble with my local "hydro" store when I bought a bag of boogie brew pro, I bought it, took it home to brew, but when I noticed it had no expiration date on it so I decided to call boogie brew HQ to get some help. I honestly was shocked to be talking to josh personally and he said that he bought a bag from a local hydro store and it was a year old, he said it brewed the same and the results were great. So after that he was kind enough to ask if I wanted to try a sample of the pure pure protein, which I gladly excepted as I am a cheap bastard haha. We shot the compost for a bit but I didn't want to keep him from his life so I thanked him again and went to "brew, baby brew". The kicker is that one part of my brew was missing from my boogie pro, so I email my info and my situation to boogie brew. The VERY NEXT DAY I GET A RESPONSE, THAT IS HOW GOOD BUSINESS IS DONE, they even called the store and helped me out big, I cannot thank them enough, I will be telling friends!✌

I use Boogie Brew Compost Tea & what a huge difference it had brought to my garden especially my fruit-bearing trees, they thrived (bigger leaf & fruits). In fact, our 30+ year old orange tree leaves were yellowish, small leaves & orange fruits & after applying boogie tea, frass, sea90 & pure protein for about a month ----boooom! the results are amazing. Leaves are greener & bigger than usual plus the oranges are much bigger like it used to. Slowly but surely.

I'm doing container gardening since I'm renting and can take my precious soil with me. To assist in aeration and moisture retention I'm planning on using coconut coir, perilite and worm castings. What do you think? Will Boogie Brew be good for that? Also how soon after spraying can one use/sell lettuce, spinach, kale and veggies? Thanks

One thing you got right. There is nothing better than fresh vericompost and if properly fed, homemade is the best.
Im a gardener. It's my business. I focus on NOT using any chemical sprays at all which can be quite difficult to convince the client at times. After 12 months they begin to see and realise the damage cause by years of spraying. When we spray we add nicitanoids to the soil which do not break down and build up over time. It is said a farmer will use 4 truckloads worth of nicitanoids per year. Testing has found suburban areas contain approximately 10 truckloads worth per year. They are now finding glyphosate in mothers breast milk due to the amount of chemical being taken up by the food, not because they are drinking round-up. And so on and so forth.
DO NOT USE CHEMICALS.
Will adding ANY NPK, such as in a soil mix, cause damage to the composting bacteria? Thanks
If it contains anything that is unnatural, then yes. Basically. I make all of my soil from material ive either composted, dug out of the chicken run or the worm castings which live in an old iron bath tub and covered with a carpet. This is how I create all my veggie garden soil. If you only have a small veggie patch this is quite easy to achieve. If you want a great garden you need to do the ground work, start using NPK's and your plants wont last and your soil will turn hard and dry (AKA useless, may as well try growing in sand). If you cant do this, get wood chip throw it in a pile and let it break down, then use that (will take 12 months).
NO NPK!!! do you go into the forest and see people placing NPK around all the ferns due to their need of a rich soil? NO YOU DONT! Do you see a herd of cows deficating in one area to fertilise the trees? NO YOU DONT! Do you see people running around with pesticides making sure all the bugs are dead? NO YOU DONT! Everytime somebody uses NPK its simply just another act of disrespect towards mother nature. To treat something so complex so simply.
If you want something great you need to work on it. Just like you did growing up and discovering who you are. Took years. You need to start treating nature with the same kind of respect. Then you will begin to understand.

Athena, thanks for the 'attaboyz, (it's what keeps me goin"!). BB is GREAT, (thanks for asking), she has a partner Bunny nowadays, his name is Peanut and she shows him who is boss all the time! Along with their Alfalfa diet, they both love chewing on fresh cannabis leaves / stalks (grown organically with love from local Boogie customers - we are blessed).
BB is the TRUTH! I use it in my orchard and it has had an amazing effect on my citrus trees as well as my plum trees! Everything happens slower with trees but the new growth and higher fruit yield speaks volumes about what the tea does. i never believe everything I am told or what I read. However, seeing is believing! I have seen it for myself. I works well here in Fallbrook, Ca. thanks Josh for the product and John thanks for letting us know about it!

Josh; Thank you for your replies. That is big of you. All I care about is people learning the truth. As you may realize some of these myths spread like wildfire. In another discussion recently, I was told that I could not possibly know what microbes were in soil & CT without an electron microscope. I would LOVE to have an electron microscope but they are useless for viewing living organisms.
Thanks for the plug for the scopes but I quit selling them when the US dollar went too high and not many understood the value of my scopes over cheap Chinese scopes.
Those of us in this industry should work to the best of our ability to educate growers so they know a little bit about the science. You and John mentioned the guy who ran the lab tests showing that compost tea is no good.
You will see that I posted some comments at his video. He actually could have got the lab to test for meaningful things but he lacked the initial knowledge base to ask the right questions. Direct microscopy should have been used and importance given to flagellate & naked amoebae (protozoa) counts in addition to the bacteria/archaea and fungi.
Everyone who is making ACT should consider building airlifts. The capacity of an airlift to increase dissolved oxygen is phenomenal. It is math & science - no escaping it. There is a reason airlifts are used in laboratory bioreactors and have been for years.
My local Hydroponics shop makes their own brew and they give out a free gallon of tea for each custome each Sunday....great stuff!!

It did work great on my peppers and tomatoes! Actually it worked great, but I did start with great quality compost. The manure tea did work much better!

You can definitely still activate "old" (dried-out) castings and re-invigorate in an aerated tea, etc. Keep up all the good work in Eastern Europe!

Really good video, entertaining and informative. I got the answer to a couple questions i had too!
You mention testing of teas at soil food labs. The only way to accurately test CT for microbial volumes is through direct microscopy, directly from the CT maker to the microscope. SFI uses weight projections for their bacterial and fungal volumes which (IMO) cannot be applied cross species. You say that Lyn at Microbial Matrix uses an electron microscope for CT, yet one cannot observe live organisms with an electron microscope. I'll ask her what this is about.
I did not see the testing/analysis methods posted on the site like most accredited labs do.
Apologize for speaking out of my ass, I do NOT pay attention enough to the finer points & details in life, honestly have no clue what scopes are used. Microbeman has been spreading the truth on soil life for years and offers great value on scope kits plus FREE education, (knowledge is everything).

I'd like to see a segment on ferments and probiotics. Anaerobically produced fertilizer has its own benefits. For example, bokashi leachate is awesome by itself as a root drench fertilizer or foliar .

I have only used "worm poo with charcoal", mixed right into the soil, and, even simply that has made GREAT, thriving, plants. Who ever is dissing is clueless at best.
Er, oh, woops, and Organic Granular? And I feed them regularly also. "Alice's Garden" , and, sometimes even Liquid M.G. .... I know many detest the M.G. but we had it sitting around. Shame to waste it plus I'm supplementing with more than just that obviously.

yeah you can bury some white rice in a pantyhose at least 10 inches deep, live it for at least 3 months and use that for brew.

cool video guys! Quick question. I brewed a 5gallon batch of boggie brew tea. for about 26 hours in my garage. but i didn't get a chance to apply it. the stuff is still in the bucket three days later. all I did was unplug the air pump. and i left the air stones sitting in the bucket with the tea bag. is it still good after sitting in my hot and humid garage 4 days later. should i still use that batch of tea thanks
No, please do NOT apply this concoction. It has definitely SPOILED. Our tea is definitely "done" in 24 hours or even less in particularly warm conditions. Please remember to DRY the air stones out, (run air though the stones UNSUBMERGED for several hours). Also, please SANITIZE your stones by bubbling them in vinegar (and "drying" them out afterwards). Finally, thoroughly clean and scrub your bucket / brew bag, etc. Sorry for first time being a disaster, here to help you make it infinitely better!

Yes: Add a wicked top dressing, (bloom-specific), made from guano powders, etc. An excellent value would be "Rainbow Mix Pro Bloom" (by Earth Juice). Just 'scratch-in' to topsoil and activate / digest with BB Heavy Harvest Tea! Unreal results.....
For flowering & fruiting any kind of plant, you can just encourage/maximize it by adding a little potash (potassium) when the flowering stage starts. Simply, ash from hardwood (from your stove/campfire) is an organic amendment entirely of potash, with virtually zero for other macronutrients. You can experiment by adding this to your compost tea during the flowering stage, or just to incorporate straight in the pots/soil. Ash will be liming your soil/medium as well. Main thing is not to go overboard with it, obviously, otherwise you'll get salts building up too much.

18 hours is ok if you are still keeping it in veg. Read the book "True LIving Organics" (by the Rev), for more info on how to grow organically from seeds or clones.
