Analyzing Ohio State's Program, Team, And Competition | Ohio State Football 2024

  • The Ohio State Buckeyes are the team to watch entering 2024. Yet many people have a cloudy perspective on Ohio State Football's identity as a program and team. The 2024 Buckeyes Football team is nearly identical to the 2023 team concerning preseason questions surrounding the quarterback and offensive line rooms, along with the fact that both returned around two-thirds of their production from the previous season. Ryan Day is an elite head coach who runs an elite program. He is 56-8 at Ohio State and anyone who thinks he should be fired is clinically insane. The Buckeyes are loaded at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive tackle, safety, and cornerback. Running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, wide receivers Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith, defensive end Jack Sawyer, and cornerbacks Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock are elite players that will help Ohio State be the best team in the Big Ten. Finally, I am analyzing Ohio State's fellow Big Ten competition, Oregon Football, Penn State Football, and especially Michigan Football, the only Big Ten Football team to have beaten Ryan Day. Oregon has the highest ceiling out of Ohio State's three competitors, but do not be surprised if Michigan is once again a thorn in the Buckeyes' side. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. Make sure to comment so I can interact with you and answer any questions you have!

With all due respect to your psychic abilities, you’ve said the same thing for going on 3 years now. 😳
No one knows who will win. What we do know is that Ryan Day manages to accomplish less with more talent than any other top 10 coach, while Sherrone Moore, already 1-0 against Day, has proven he can get more out of less talent.
Add to that the fact that ALL the pressure in this game is on Ryan Day: More talent, bought players, playing at home, etc.
The interesting question is what happens if Day loses 4 in a row? Does Chip Kelly become your next head coach?
Interesting side bar. Does Sherrone Moore win the Woody Hayes Trophy (as Jim Harbaugh did and Ryan Day hasn’t) if he leads Michigan to another win over Ohio State?
Michigan is perfectly set up this year. No one thinks they’ll win anything. They’ll be underdogs in every big game……when you think about it, in that sense, it’s just like last year. lol.

@@DeshCanterOhio State’s oline was good enough to beat Michigan last year, OSU’s qb didn’t make enough plays. Whoever is OSU’s qb will better than whoever Michigan puts out this upcoming season. The last few seasons is not the same as the upcoming season cause of Michigan having a new coaching staff, lost all of those players to the draft and graduation. OSU has more players coming back from a team that almost beat Michigan at their place. Plus OSU’s top 5 recruiting class and quality incoming transfers which adds to an already elite roster. OSU will have a better offense and defense than Michigan. OSU is at home and the oline will be better while Michigan had to replace their oline and hasn’t recruited at a top 10 level, top 10 recruiting is needed to sustain a certain level of success. OSU is in a better position than Michigan and wins the game at home by at least 2 td’s if not more. The pressure will be there but OSU has too much talented experience to fail this upcoming season. Michigan’s defense will still be one of the best but the struggles with their offense will put pressure on the defense to keep them afloat and that will lower the quality of the defense. That’s part of the reason OSU will have a better defense due to more talented experience returning, adding Caleb Downs, Knowles 3rd year with the program, while Michigan lost safety Moore to injury, pressure from at times a struggling offense, and new coaching staff. All of that adds to an OSU win by at least 2 td’s .

      A few points of clarification:
1). Your O-line was talented enough last year, but not skilled enough. McCord threw 2 picks because he had happy feet. He had happy feet because your boys couldn’t pass block well enough for him, so his “plan” was to chuck and duck and hope Maserati Marv came up with the play. Didn’t work.
      2). “Almost beat” = “Lost.”
3). When you had CJ Stroud, Olave, Wilson, and Smith-Njigba, not to mention Treveon, and we had Cade McNamara, two 4-star WR’s, a 3-star WR, and a 3-star starting RB, how did that work out for you? You lost 42-27…..😮
4). In which of the past 3 seasons has Michigan had more “talent” and better recruiting classes? Regardless, what have been the outcomes?
5). I’ll give you this, regardless of how badly you guys are coached and how much you underachieve, you certainly win the Buckeye pre-season National Championship without fail.
6). If the word “elite” were a drinking game, the entire state of Ohio would die of liver failure.

      A few points of clarification:
1). OSU’s O-line was talented enough, but not developed enough and accordingly not skilled enough to beat Michigan last year. Your QB didn’t make plays because he had happy feet all day. He had happy feet because your boys up front couldn’t pass block our superior defense. McCord did what he was trained to do all year, i.e., chuck and duck and hope Maserati Marv could pull out a miraculously catch. You got behind and never led. Michigan scored on every possession of the 2nd half.
2). You’ve had higher ranked recruiting classes and had more 4 and 5-star talent than we have for years; it hasn’t mattered because we develop better and coach better. You’ve been ranked higher and favored in every game of the past 3 years, home and away. In 2021 you had an NFL talent in literally every position group and got beat by a low 4-star QB and a 3-star RB. We have more starting linemen on NFL rosters than any other team and haven’t had a 5-star OL for over a decade.
      See the pattern?
Oh, and you predicted we’d lose every year for the past 3 years too.
      Doh!!!

If this was Michigan's roster with Harbaugh or Alabama roster or hell even penn states roster I guarantee you people wouldn't bat a eye. But because osu has taken so much heat for literally losing back to back to the national champs. There's this odd perception this team is gonna find a way to screw it up. And maybe they do anything is possible. I don't think osu running through everybody is crazy. I also don't think it's crazy it somehow fumbles and turns into a masterclass of memes. But I think osu running through everybody is far more likely then people want to admit if that offensive line isn't costing us games and Howard isn't throwing game losing interceptions osu is more loaded at every position besides linebacker. That line was bad last year but never once did I sit there at the end of loss and be like yea that was offensive lines fault. it was always qb.

A lot of the errors by McCord were forced by the Michigan defense.

@@gunpuppy3533 if you go back and watch the tape, even before the michigan game, mccord would always lock onto his first read/mhj and not see the rest of the field. fleming had 2 open touchdowns against michigan if mccord went through his reads

sam i love your expertise ,i am a ohio state fan and like i mentioned before i congratulate you and the michigan wolverines for winning the natty , michigan kicked ohio states nuts for 3 years PERIOD!! ohio state must show toughness at the line on both sides of the ball , unfortunately and honestly i am not a ryan day fan ,but this better be the year or he is gone, thank you sam ,ps i should be getting hate messages from my fellow buckeye fans but thats ok ,that hate hearing the facts

Again all the PRE-SEASON hype goes to OSU, as it did the past three years. So what happens when (if) Michigan beats them again, for the fourth straight time, can the current NATIONAL CHAMPS finally get some respect ?
One would think that three straight and a national championship would accomplish some respect for the program, but the winningest team in college football still gets none.
Go Blue, REPEAT, post-season is the only hype that REALLY counts.
