Might be overly simplistic but i think Cade has accepted that all NFL hopes are gone, he has 3 games left and has had major injuries and simply doesnt want to risk being more crippled for the rest of his life. As a fan you want him to compete, as a parent, he tried, its ok to let the next generation step up and get the reps.
Think Kirk really likes Stratton and wants to see him in game, knows hes better than Cade. I believe Tim likes him a lot too since Stratton is one of his pick for possibly the future. I think his toughness and arm talent won Kirk over. I do believe something definitely going on with Cade, it’ll be interesting to find out. I’m excited.
He could apply for a medical redshirt for only playing 5 games in 2023 (would require approval by the NCAA). It's hard to believe, but he's only played in 34 games over the course of his six years.

Given the money situation, Iowa would have to be very fortunate in QB shopping in the portal. It's going to have to be a Moneyball" guy who the average fan probably won't be thrilled about. It might be just as well to wait until the spring period. I could be wrong, but they might be able to get more value by getting a couple of DTs and a corner. A lot depends on how Jimmy Sullivan (the others, too) looks this spring. If it looks like he's good, maybe you try to stick with Sully Sr. and Stratton for '25 and hope to shore up the defense.

When they've went out and gotten other QB's, and he's still 3rd or lower on the depth chart, that's a sign he isn't ever seeing the field unless absolutely needed to.
Why do people care so much about rankings in basketball in the early season? They play SO many games. Iowa WBB hasn’t played any credible opponent either, they emptied all their starters, and had to rebuild.

Cade can transfer? He's been playing college football since 1998.

It all depends on the d line play imo. If they can’t get pressure on Edwards (QB), Iowa loses.

South carolina hasn't played anyone either. And Iowa state just lost to UNI.5-0 is better than 4-1
