Have you seen these new receptacles and light switches? I personally think they may be commonly installed eventually. What do you think?
I recently bought a bunch of the Leviton Edge switches and receptacles to replace all the worn out outlets that I had been meaning to replace. It really saves time and i think that it's worth it. The receptacles I had were sometimes wired a bit weirdly, so this allowed me to address the actual weirdness in the wiring so that eventually when they need replacing, it should be even faster.
It was a really nice experience and no problems so far.
Never been disappointed by anything made by Leviton. Recently went to the local hardware stores, looking to replace several black duplex outlets in the living room and kitchen - and wanted outlets without the tamper resistant feature, as there's no children in the house, and a senior citizen with limited hand/arm strength.
All the local big box hardware stores had on hand was, IMO, cheap crap - all tamper resistant, nearly all the lightweight spring-loaded backstab $1 a pop variety, and nearly 95% of the selection in white only - and all only one particular brand I'd never heard of before.
Went online, and ordered Leviton Industrial Grade standard duplex black outlets. Cost like $6 each, but they were worth the price. Not going to gamble on cheap parts when it comes to the electrical system in my house.
These are absolutely amazing!! I just wired my own cabin and timed how fast I did an old outlet with loops and these new outlets and I saved about 2-3 minutes per outlet.
Saw these a few days ago and immediately bought some. Love that there's no bare screws/wires that could short/ground out.
Fantastic device, definitely a no-brainer to use that one. Thanks so much for sharing!
DIY is a big thing and with this in mind it’s a great idea. Thumbs up 👍
it is usually preferable to have the lower face of a half switched receptacle be the switched one, because you usually have the lamp permanently plugged into it; and then you can see the always on face to plug and unplug things.
I am not worried about DIY taking away work. If the old-school models were a hindrance for a person to do this themselves then they should just not be doing any electrical work. This might be worse because I can easily see someone not stripping the wire enough and pinching the insulation instead of the copper. It either won't work at all or they will have a bad connection that will burn up.
Just do not use insulation. Problem solved.
Thanks for the video, certainly very informative.
FYI, the link to the non-Decora GFCI doesn't work. Can't find that anywhere!
Unfortunately all GFCIs are decora style. I checked the link and the one I gave seems to work for me. I am not sure why it wouldn't be working. This is the one I used: homedepot.sjv.io/kOax3M
Thanx!
Having the multiple connections on back makes me ask. Do you like doing pass through energy on these or would you only use the second connection if making the top plug work from a light switch?
Another great video Adam. Thanks for sharing..
do they have a dimmer switch?
Great video
Man, I wish I had these six months ago when I was changing out all the plugs and switches in my master bedroom.
Is there a new + version of the decora switch as well?
No there isn't unfortunately.
I find that those connectors work best with stranded conductors.
in my opinion, getting rid of the oversized plaster tab is a good thing - that is a manufactured home feature, to allow sloppier sheetrock work, because they use oversized plates.
What gauge wire will it take 14or 12..?
I'd like to know more about the "lever connection" and how exactly it works. Is it mechanically better than the old "Push in" type connection?
As we all know, the spring connection on the old push in fail over time.
I prefer the commercial outlets where there is a better mechanical connection.
Added note are you seeing a shift to 10 amp outlets and stuff for the newer LED lights being low amps, and wattage.
A popular option would be one of these with a built-in USB-C charger. I think that would be a popular upgrade for a lot of homeowners.
If you want to do that now you have to use a conventional outlet with the usb plug. Remove existing, use waygo connectors and pigtail to the new outlet. Beauty is you can wire the pigtail with the standard hook connection while you are standing up and just plug everything in. Big advantage for old joints.
That is likely in development. I'm a retired 25+ yr Leviton factory/office employee and it takes months to get the tooling made for new molds.
Are the mounting ears designed to strip the wires? The 15A versions look like one notch is smaller than the other, i.e. one for stripping 14g wire and one for stripping 12g. It’s hard to tell for sure in the video, my eyes may be deceiving me.
Are these not just like wago internal?
He literally said it just a few seconds later ^^
What is the price difference? This will increase speed of installation immensely. Is there a 20A GFCI?
Aluminum and dissimilar metal issues?
Yes. These are for copper wires.
Wow. These are awesome!!!! Already added to my Amazon cart!! 🎉.
However, I couldn’t find any of these in black (home theater) 🎉
Btw. The links for the new receptacles isn’t working. 🎉
Call me old school, but i just cant bring myself to trust the WAGO (lever) type connectors on anything other than on low voltage control type wiring. Just my humble opinion.
A bit too wide for two in box?
Good vid & info as usual ... Will be trying them ... Thx
I just wish theyd make these capable of connecting to aluminum wiring without needing expensive adapters and cumbersome pigtails.
I worked in one of Leviton's factories for 25+ years and making the CO/ALR devices was a PIA due to the specialized plating needed on the terminal screws and terminals. It was also very low volume so it was expensive. And on the factory floor it was easy to visually mix up zinc plated parts with the parts for CO/ALR devices.
I noticed the commercial grade plugs and switches had more metal than plastic
Random related thought: why are we still using flat head screws to secure receptacle covers?? Slotted screw drivers should be prevented from approaching receptacles slots.
Leviton does have a Decora product line of wallplates that snap in as opposed to be being screwed to the receptacle. It's an item you won't find at a Home Depot or hardware store, but can be ordered at an electrical distributor.
Please stop shaking the product you are showing.
Can't see the detail you are trying to show when it is jumping all over the place.
Hold it steady or set it down and point at features.
Seems like that first one you wired up had wires striped too long. There was definitely exposed copper
Why would electricians be furious? 43 years experience here
The only flaw is that they do not work with industrial cover outlets.
If only I could find these in "Light Almond" color...
Not sure what house you have but those new receptacles simply will not fit in boxes from homes built in mid 60's
Having a 3 way just causes more problems. One of the receptacles is going to get jealous of the other receptacle and ends up not wanting any part of the relationship. Especially with the hot and neutral receptacles
This video was a BIG disappointment. When I read the words on the video: "LAST LONGER AND SAFER", I got really excited! I called my wife over and we both had BIG expectations. Well... electrical outlets was not the 1st thought that came to our minds.
Why not a USB port too?????🙂
wait there is "older "models i jsut heard about these likea month ago
Commercial grade lever outlets are a game changer.
Trump Is Furious Over These Game-Changing DIY Outlets!
WHAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!
Is there a single connection between top and bottom receptacle or will you need two actual connections?
There is a single connection, just like a regular receptacle, and there is a tab between them to separate them as well.

Is it possible to insert the wire without opening the lever? Thanks for covering this new product. While I have used WAGO lever nuts, this is the first time seeing this product.
I liked the video, but I was annoyed with the Click Bait title (I knew it was before I clicked, but it almost made me mark the channel as Do not show)
Do whatever you feel you need to. I see nothing about it that is clickbait. I think a lot of people just call something clickbait when it is interesting. Electricians are not going to like these as they are really well made and so DIY friendly and less people will feel they need professionals to change them. True clickbait is saying or showing one thing and then never showing it or why. I am glad you enjoyed the video though.
@@HowToHomeDIY When you say "Electricians are Furious Over These" and then don't talk about that or provide a single verified example of that, it is Click Bait. While I like these, I doubt anyone would become comfortable with changing a receptacle just because they would no longer have to hook a wire around a screw if they were not willing to do it before these.
No, that’s not. It was explained. And all of that is opinion. Which you are free to have. Strongly disagree. Take care.
