  • At the end of September my wife and I spent two days railfanning Alco lines in Eastern PA. On Saturday, 9/30 we took a trip to Scranton to chase the Delaware-Lackawanna. PT-98 was light power leaving Scranton, but just as we were getting ready to leave we heard on the scanner that the 3000 had failed with a blown auxiliary generator. So we caught them returning to drop the 3000 and pick up the 405 to replace it. While we were waiting the Steamtown shuttle went by the Radisson station hotel. The PT then proceeded to Tobyhanna for some BestWay cars and then on down to the gap to swap empties for their pickup. Sunday 10/1 we went down to West Chester to catch the tourist operation there. Running that day was the 4213 an ex-CP C424 which was rebuilt with a traction alternator replacing the original generator. It also has a good deal of modular electronics according to the conductor. While the sun was in and out all day, we managed to catch the train in the sun a few times. Enjoy!
