Omn1 in the books, Percy explains that when he is around Ares he feels like he is in the presence of every bully or person who made him angry all at once. And that's why whenever he is around Ares he gets confrontational.
No Hephestus didn't love Hera. She was his mother. She abandoned him. He wanted to embarrass her while also getting recognized by the gods and got Aphrodite as a wife for it. When Percy says rejected by Hera he is referring to the fact that when Hephestus was born Hera threw him off of Mount Olympus and told Zeus she had a miscarriage.
Technically Athena and Ares are both gods of war, Athena is more well known for her wisdom though but she is very strategic and Ares is more brawn and attack first. Thats why Annabeth takes the time to look and analyze the innventions in the theme park before reacting. Also in the second episode when Clarisse screams at Percy when he breaks her Spear her reaction is because it was a gift from her dad. And the song that plays in the tunnel of love has a double meaning because Hephaestus was damaged and rejected by his family his whole like. Hera is his mother and threw him off Olympus as a baby and then his wife ends up cheating on him repeatedly. So he understands wanting to be different from the rest of the gods because they've treated him wrong from the beginning
The PJO fanfom is one of the few fandoms where its ok and normal to have the main character be your favorite. Also Percy Jackson is probably one of if not the most powerful demigod ever. Most demigods don't live past their teens but the more powerful you are the more monsters are attracted to them. Also the books get progressively more dark and the characters suffer a lot of trauma throughout the series
I saw that Edge said that this was the first bit of tv and film work he's done that his kids can watch which made me laugh a lot. He's such a good Area, so fun and full of ego and with that menace underneath
I love how they zoomed in on Grover's face while Percy and Annabeth were hugging. You can pinpoint the exact moment when he realized he's the third wheel in the trio 😂😭 Also Annabeth's speech at the end of this episode was fantastic. The chair scene was a departure from the book but I think how they chose to emphasize the family trauma theme and conditional vs. unconditional love was more powerful. It's one of the best moments of the show. I also loved that Hephaestus and Ares were foils to each other. Hephaestus hated the way his family behaved whereas Ares reveled in it. The kids chose to emulate the latter rather than continue the cycle by imitating the former. Great storytelling there imo
I like your interpretation of the Fate's cutting the string, that's how I felt when I first read that. Like, there are *a lot* of people in the world. Why would you assume that's *your* thread?! I also love that they showed Hephestaus as a decent god. He deserves some positive representation given his backstory, lol. Edge did a great job playing Ares, you could properly see the insanity in his eyes when Grover poked at sore spots.
I love how the script questions itself sometimes and acknowledges the slight absurdity of the world. I found Percy asking many of the questions I had and I can see that was similar for Michael too!
A few things book related... The Tunnel of Love was in fact a trap to imprisom Ares and Aphrodite on the boat with metallic little spiderwebs and filme then straight to Olympus to embarass them. In the book water control from Percy and Grover flying shoes save them. So, the reason Percy got pissed about Ares is that he set them to embarass Athena and Poseidon (Percey and Annabeth parents) instead of him and Aphrodite. Thats the reason why Percy call him a coward and start this quary between them. So the chair of Hephaestus and Percy andAnnabeth feelings are a new creation.
Hera was Hephaestus' mother. When Hephaestus was born, Hera threw him off Mount Olympus since she found him to be ugly. He was found by a satyr or wood nymph and nursed back to health. Hera did not tell her husband Zeus what she did and later Zeus made Hephaestus craftsman of the gods. He later found out Hephaestus was his son and elevated him to god status still being the blacksmith and craftsman to the gods.
You’re 35? I thought we were the same age 😂 I love your reactions as a book reader, Percy being a wanted criminal is one of my favorite part of the books.
I got to be at the royal rumble a few years back where edge came out of retirement and I’ll tell you what that pop off from the crowd when the music hit was something else! Great to see him here Aries
OMG, yes, I remember Edge!! Didn't he get jealous when The Rock started bragging about his acting career when he got the part of the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns? Jeez, that was so long ago! I loved Grover's interactions with Ares here. So smart!
what's so sweet about the end of the boat scene is that percy isn't really controlling his water powers yet, he's using them instinctively and in that moment, percy's first instinct was to save annabeth 🥺🥺
Loving your reactions Mike! Thanks so much for reacting to this series. As always, your thoughts afterward are brilliant ❤ So refreshing to watch a non book reader put the clues together
Adam Copland/ Edge has done a few other acting stuff like Highlander: Endgame, The Flash, Haven, Money Plane, Bookaboo , Interrogation, Vikings, Sanctuary just to name a few
I'm loving your reactions so much and I really love this series. I have been a fan of the books for many years, they get better and better and the Percy universe (Riordanverse) is crazy 💙 thanks for your reactions
im happy you are enjoying this! its a show about kids and its for kids, so ive seen it doesnt fit well for a lot of people... I'm happy you are liking it tho! anyway ~ :)
1x5 is my favorite after 1x8 💙 As a book reader, I love this series, especially what they've done in this episode! And I'm so happy to see book reader love this series too 😍
The part in the Tunnel o love is significantly different in the book. I'm not going to spoil it in case you want to read it. I actually prefer that version. The writer is involved with the series so I don't feel bad about changes/omissions. It's different than it was with the movies, where they butchered the storyline and Rick Riordan had no say.
I think they are doing a decent job of trying to explain mythology and keeping the in*cest out of it because then everyone would remember that every half blood are either siblings or first and second cousins. Like they talk about Hephaestus Aphrodite and Ares without mentioning that are is siblings with both of them
I loved this episode, one of the best so far, but my one gripe is that Annabeth made 0 progress with Hephaestus’ chair. She just pulled on some gears, she should have at least been able to open it up a little.
Mox is King but Adam is amazing. I want to see Adam Copeland vs Mox or Adam Copeland vs Adam Cole vs Adam Hangman Paige. The three Adams match lol a more intense repeat of the cole vs hangman match where fans cheered: “Let’s Go Adam” “Adam Cole”. 😂😂😂

Being in the God of War's presence makes you angry.

Ares is the God of War. Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy.

@@invinciblepikachu1727no that was last episode
My thoughts exactly 😂
Flash forward to Heroes of Olympus and the war
I saw that Edge said that this was the first bit of tv and film work he's done that his kids can watch which made me laugh a lot.

The Lighting Thief Book is only one year older than Twitter. So Ares was def using it by the end of the series

Ares starting a fight on twitter 😂😂😂
I am digging the fact that Grover is always with goat legs but walks normal because obviously he’s a Satyr. Love it.
"It doesn't necessarily means you're the one who's gonna die"
Yeah, she's more worried about her newfound friends 😂
Grover told aries they met at the solstice celebration on olympus.
You were shocking the world with the fact that you're 35?! during that line

I think it was thetis (Achilles mother) who found Hephaestus but your right on the nymph but a sea nymph goddess
“She’s starting to believe!” Heck yes 😂

Adam Copeland - AEW 😤
Fun fact: when Percy comes out of the water in books his clothes are dry but he can will them to become wet if he needs to.
Loving your reactions Mike! Thanks so much for reacting to this series. As always, your thoughts afterward are brilliant ❤ So refreshing to watch a non book reader put the clues together
This guy makes for a really intimidating Ares. The way he shifts his mood so quickly.
Actor playing Hephaestus here played God Johnson in Lucifer!
Also Cain in Supernatural and Detective Lassiter on Psych!
Yeah I really loved Ares perfect casting so he's the reason the Star Wars fandom is so divided lol
Adam Copeland (Edge) has been acting for a long time so he has some acting chops to him. 😊
You are getting real close to catching up to us which will be fun when we are all on real time.

The gods were helpless to help Hera out if it.... so it was difficult for Anabeth

loved the reaction. Ep 6 was my least favorite but ep 7 brought it back up again. I love this show!!
Ares was the best thing to come out of the show.
I wish you would stop talking so much over the dialogue and just pause it to make your point so that you don’t miss out important info
He wears headphones so he still hears the dialogue.
What Cameron said plus, pausing would fuck up the watch alongs
and third, I'm sure he catches most everything the extra times he has to watch the episode while editing. Unless Omn! contracts out the editing.
I absolutely love this episode
