I was a trainee RT in the early 80. RA 17s were still an effective Comms receiver, gradually being replaced with the newer digital units.

This video was to demonstrate the working condition of the radio when it was for sale on Ebay , hence the excessive use of the controls.
If you'd have tuned for deadbeat you'd have got there quicker!
