Woa! An applause for that old DYMO mechanical machine! I'm 44 years old and I remember my parents using does neat devices. They turn out with excellent looking labels. Greetings from Portugal.
Really nice, easy, cute labels for the veg & herbs, but my experience is that the wood rots fast, so these might not be for things that need permanent labels. But I wonder about the stuff you dip the handles of tools into, if that would protect the wood...Anyway, these are great for the annuals, very clever.
If you already enjoy wood burning... LOL It really is very tricky to get good looking letters. Congradulations! Your letters actually looked really good!
This is super duper. Thanks for your awesome ideas. I'm a little worried about longevity though. Utmost blessings! I've tried dremeling words in slate, fwiw ... so I love your wood burning.
Would need to see these after a couple of month in the ground - wooden markers are notorious for quickly rotting or getting moldy. Would advise against wood for use in the UK/Central Europe.
Hi there! Yes, I found that wood markers don’t do great in the ground. I made an updated video on some ideas that might work better. Here is the link th-cam.com/video/2NdJuhOQhvE/w-d-xo.html
It held up really well! I only used them for one season and took them out of the ground in late October. I think I can get another year out of them but since the wood is so thin some of them warped a little. The paint stir sticks are in great shape though!
Just curious what they look like after 2 growing seasons as it's now 2020. I did wood last year and they basically rotted and are unreadable after 1 season. How are your's doing? I'm trying to find something waterproof that will last in RAINY Washington..Any CHEAP IDEAS? Thanks, Debbie
Hi Debbie! The stir sticks and the shims have lasted for two seasons but the thinner wood rectangles with pop cycle sticks are toast. I’m working on some ideas for longer lasting tags.. I should have a video up in a few weeks. I’ll let you know when it’s posted!!
holy SHIT that is NOT EFFICIENT. We're trying to quickly, easily and inexpensively label our shit & grow it, not waste hours crafting cute little signs. A "DEVICE???" for labeling? This shit needs to be about 5 seconds to produce a label spike and 30 to write what you need.
Hi Dark Bulb, The most efficient way would be to buy labels from the store and write on them with permanent marker. If you’re willing to be mildly innovative you could cut up a milk jug or yogurt container into strips then write on those with a permanent marker. This video is for people who enjoy being crafty and value artistry over efficiency. I encourage you to make your own video on your ideas for garden labels. I’m sure a lot of people would want to see it. Cheers
Thank you! Skewer duct tape is my top pic. Most economical and fast.

Hi!! It’s the coolest!
@@WhitneyBaldwin How long do the Dymo labels stay adhered?
Hey there! The labels stayed adheared all season. I had one come off over the winter but I glued it back on with E6000 and it’s still on there!
Those are great ideas!
Thank you for sharing.
I love the ideas. Especially the duct tape. Definitely gonna use that one ;)
How does it hold up outside? I live in Florida so that would be the greatest test!!! Thanks!!

I was thinking that as well unless you treat the wood. I'm going to substitute metal clothes hangers
That’s a good idea!!
Can I use resin for plant labels?
Love these ideas
How well did that paint pen hold up to the elements over time?
It held up really well! I only used them for one season and took them out of the ground in late October. I think I can get another year out of them but since the wood is so thin some of them warped a little. The paint stir sticks are in great shape though!
@@WhitneyBaldwin Great! I love the paint sticks idea the most.
Thank You Love It!
Thanks for for information
Awesome ideas Whitney, thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you Georgios! Glad you liked them ☺️
How long does the paint pen last on the chalkboard paint stick?
Mine have lasted a few years! The wood degrades faster than the paint pen
Awesome content

I was trying the wood burning idea. But it takes way too long. I am going to try the acrylic paint. I have a bunch of that around.
