  • VIDEO DESCRIPTION
    This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this seasonal image of "Birch Tree Owl" with a painting knife. You'll learn simple painting techniques that will help you to create this beautiful fall masterpiece filled with autumn yellow leaves, a realistic screech owl and birch tree branches that have brilliant texture on the bark. You'll learn how to create this illusive owl that seems to be perfectly perched in the tree just relaxing on a sunny fall day. He's surrounded by a natural habitat in this autumnal landscape high up in the branches to catch the perfect view. You'll learn to paint realistic feathers, a perfectly proportioned face and eyes that look right at you with depth. Using only 2 brushes, 1 painting knife and 6 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece with a crisp autumn feel and a fiercely handsome nocturnal bird of prey. So let's get painting and let's get sipping!

    • @michellethepainter.

      Hi Veronica, Chrome orange is very much on the yellow side. I'm not terribly familiar with all the brands of paint out there, and I know they can vary from one brand to the other, but I'm pretty sure if you mix your regular orange with a bit of vibrant yellow, like cadmium, you'll get something close to chrome orange. Good luck! ~Michelle

      Hi Johnna, Yes, you're probably right about the talons. You could just add little tips of them over the edge of the branch if you wanted. Thanks for watching!

    I love your teaching! What do you use with your acrylic paint to keep it flowing? What paint do you use? Could you do a tutorial of a wolf?

    • @michellethepainter.

      Hi, For these tutorials I'm using a thin bodied student grade paint from Blick Materials called Blickrylics. It doesn't have the best pigment, but I like the consistency for layering and blending affects. I sell small sizes of it on my website (link below) if you want to try it before you buy the larger bottles. You're the 2nd person today who's asked for a wolf! I may have to put one in the rotation... stay tuned! Thanks for watching! ~Michelle berkshirepaintandsip.squarespace.com/paint-supplies

    This was fun and out of my comfort zone! Thanks for all your helpful hints, I feel I'm a better painter because of you. Do you recommend sealing the paintings? Is something I've just recently heard about but don't know when it's necessary.

    • @michellethepainter.
      @michellethepainter.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, If you are using acrylic paint, it will fully cure on it's own in about 3 weeks and at that point it is not really necessary to seal it, however, I usually put a varnish on my completed paintings in order to bring all of the sheens together and make it look cohesive. Varnish comes in a variety of sheens, I like a glossy one, and it does give a more durable protection to the paint underneath, but is not totally necessary on all paintings in my professional opinion. I mostly do it on my "best" ones that I plan to sell or display. I hope this info helps. Thanks for watching!

    Do you use Gesso on the canvas beforehand? If not, does it really make a huge difference in the quality? I'm torn on whether to use or not

    • @michellethepainter.
      @michellethepainter.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jennifer, I do not pre-gesso my canvas because I buy canvas that are already primed. If your canvas is raw, then yes it needs a primer, or if you want a different texture than it comes with, than yes, use a primer/gesso... otherwise you're good to go! Have fun painting, Michelle
