    Hi Kyle and Shannon,
With the cost of lumber these days, It might be a good idea to keep as much of the lumber as you can from the barn for things like building a chicken coop or shelter for other animals you might be getting for your farm.

Nope. They are of the generation where they think everything NEW is better. They have a lot to learn. That barn could have easily been refurbished. An example is Cog Hill Farm.

You did a great job. The way that barn came down was a good thing, lots of that lumber can be reused, or even sold. I know there are loads of people that will buy those old boards. Some of it could be used for shelves, raise garden and flower beds, this list is endless. Give yourselves a pat on the back. There is a tool that will punch the nail, google pneumatic nail extractor, nail extractor tool. good luck. Hope you're feeling better.

Success! No one was injured and looks like you have some nice lumbar. And with the prices being what they are, every plank you save will be worth it in the long run.
As for removing the nails... well you just take your time and pull them. You can get a a tool specific for pulling nails, or a good carpenters hammer. Either way, just take your time and be sure to keep the nails gathered up off the ground. You don't want to find any the hard way by mowing over or driving over them.
    Again,Good Job!

I've lived most of my life that same way, using creativity and what I have on hand. It's already broken, so try anyway! Glad you got it down. A reciprocating saw may help to cut the nails. It's how I have reused a lot of pallet wood cause they use ring nails in those. Several people in my family have covid and we've lost a couple of the older uncles, so we didn't have a Christmas party this year. My trust and faith is in the Lord's plan and blessings for He is always good. Here's to a better year in 2022! Blessings, Texas Deb 😁💕

I've spent most of my growing up years pulling nails out of wood to be reused not just the wood but the nails also. You need a good quality claw hammer with a long handle on it. A 2X6 scrap piece and a pair of pliers to help straighten out bent over nails. Then find a nice place to sit with a big glass of ice tea some good music to lesion too. Then relax and start tapping the through one at a time one board at a time. Now if there was two of us working on a stack of boards one would tap them out and then the other one would pull the nails the rest of the way out and straighten the nails and put them in the good nail can. I remember I was 19yrs. old and still had to drive nails out of boards. Now I'm 63 and still to save big money I pull nails out a lumber. I always said that if the guy that put all them nails in the boards had to take them all out, he would not of wasted so many nails putting that many in. My grandfather told us that if two nails will hold the board down then two nails is enough. Any more is a waste of a good nail and the work it took to drive it in along with the cost of the nail... Waste not want not!!!!!
I guess you found out that barn was stronger than you thought. Just a bit of FYI next time you want to pull down a building like that pull from the narrow end first. They come down a bit easier... As you seen on the last pull...

The best way to learn is to ask some old timers. Use a big pry bar and a 2x4 to act as a fulcrum. Also, have a sturdy hammer to straighten any that might bend a bit. I can say I have pulled many a nail. You did great for your first time pulling a building down.
