Olajuwon's 1990 season was pretty phenomenal too. Olajuwon avg 24ppg, 14rpg, had 174 steals and 376 blocks on 51% FG

The difference was coaching and organizational commitment to Hakeem. My Rockets sucked as an organization until they finally got their act together. AND, Rudy T became the coach. There was a LOT that changed that year.

Another great video. Hakeem reached his prime this year.

If the Rockets beat the Supersonics in 1993 they may have 3-peated. The Bulls always had difficulty in beating the Rockets.

They should've, but a questionable call prevented them from happening.

They would've had to beat the bulls to win the title in 93. That wasn't happening for Houston

@@coryyoung1857 Bulls were 1-5 against the Rockets from 91-93 and they lost twice. Plus MJ always knew they had trouble with Hakeem.

@KWCline91 playoffs were different when jordan was playing. He found away to turn it up another level of 2. He would've found a way

The Rockets could beat anyone but the Sonics. That team was Hakeem's kryptonite. After they traded Shawn Kemp, it didn't matter, the Rockets were irrelevant by then.

To be fair, the Rockets were up and coming in 1993 and they weren't significantly healthy in 96 (the year Seattle was the best West team). Once the Rockets got Barkley in the trade did they finally beat Seattle in the playoffs.

They "beat" Hakeem when Hakeem had injured or missing starters in the second half of rhe 80s. What about 1996 when Hakeem teammates missed almost 150 games. Funny how this always gets skipped. The best you can say is 1993 and even that one has doubt due to questionable calls by Dick Bavetta. Plus we saw the true version of the Sonics in 1994 and 1995. Yet hey let's pretend none of this happen.

@JamesHardenoverKobe13 nah bro. Kemp was drafted in 89. The decade was over. Gary Payton was drafted in 90. Seattle wasn't jack UNTIL the 90s. And the Sonics were an enigma. 1st top seed to lose to an 8 seed, then go to finals. But they seemed to have the Rockets number.

Beating that Lakers team and taking the Celtics to 6 in 86 are still impressive feats.

This, 94 was peak Hakeem. His abilities fell slightly in 95. Still the best in the league that year.

It's almost similar to MJ, he continued to hone his skills and slow the game down, but we're left wondering how good athletic prime MJ and athletic prime Hakeem could have been if they had teammates they could trust during that period. Which was the real prime? One was a physical prime, another was a balanced prime and the last was a mental prime.
Athletic prime Hakeem and MJ were amazing, man. They were everywhere on the defensive end. MJ far more polished offensively, but Hakeem was already so good even in a more raw state-he just had poor shot selection(something i would imagine would be reduced in the modern game as he would have trained his handle and been allowed to dribble more like a guard which when you can create your own shot-it helps with creating easier shots for yourself and others.) I believe Hakeem and MJ are the 2 greatest two way players ever.

Not winning a championship always leads to people underestimating how good you are.. idc what anybody says, Hakeem top 3 centers all time BOTH in the highest peaks list and in the overall career efficiency list

the way he moved around the court from 91-95 was just so much faster than everyone else, he looked like a small forward in a centers body, and undersized at that, he literally went for every block and his timing was insane, his fadeaway was essentially like kareems skyhook, knew it was coming yet still shot it countless times and made it, o and also the hook shot, he shot that like it was a jumpshot sometimes, literally 12 feet out contorting his body to get off a hook shot

I missed peak Bird and Magic in the 80's but I was blessed to watch peak MJ and Olajuwon in the 90's. I won't complain.

I became the biggest Hakeem Olajuwon fan in New York during the 92-93 season when I was 11 years old. He is actually on the inside cover of the 92-93 NBA Encyclopedia. I have it. God Bless this video!!
