RED DOT FINGERING IS THE BEST IDEA YET. OTHER INSTRUCTORS SEEM TO THINK ITS EASY TO FOLLOW THEIR FINGERING BUT AT TIMES YOU CAN'T TELL WHICH FINGERS ARE TOUCHING WHAT. I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR VIDEOS BECAUSE I LOVE THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN THINGS AND REPEAT THINGS SO THEY SINK IN. SO THANKS AGAIN FOR THE GREAT LESSONS.
I AGREE. WHEN I SAW THIS I FELL IN LOVE. NOT ONLY DO THEY TAKE THINGS GROM THE BASE AND DO IT SLOWLY, BUT ON TOP OF THAT THEY ADD THESE RED DOTS WITH MAKES IT SO DAMN CLEAR AND FRIENDLY. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH WHY NOBODY ELSE DOES THAT
Man, I can't stress this enough: you are the very best bass teacher on this website, and your lessons really are helping me in a time where I am not able to afford music classes. It is all amazing to me, how you explain everything thoroughly, the video editing being on point, and how it all makes sense to me. Thank you so much for these lessons, you are an inspiration to me.
Hello Richie. I'm 58 years old, and just bought my first bass a few weeks ago. Coming to the instrument rather late, I know! I want to thank you for your excellent instructional videos. I've watched your first 10 beginner lessons, and they have helped me enormously. I really appreciate the effort you make to explain the many small nuances of playing that others don't bother with. For a beginner, that makes all the difference in the world. I come away from your lessons feeling "Yeah, lets DO this!", rather than "what was that he was doing ... what did he mean by...". Your lessons make me WANT to practice, to develop the skills so I can see what's next. And, by the way, where can I watch some videos or hear some recordings of YOU playing in a group setting? Thanks again for all your help.
Hi. I’m 72 years old and started messing around with the bass guitar about six years ago. I have short little fingers compared to every bassist I have seen so far and was lazy about trying to learn to use it. I had surgery on my right wrist and elbow in 2019 and am just getting back to playing. I decided to do it right this time. I got my 5 string bass set up properly and started looking on TH-cam for how to play scales. Your video on the C scale was the best beginner video I found. Thanks for getting me started properly. I’m looking forward to more.
Hey Raymond, thank you for getting in touch and all power to you and your determination to continue learning. Bill Wyman, the original Rolling Stones bass player has small hands, you're in good company. Very best wishes 😎
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This has been the best introduction to scales on the bass I could find on TH-cam. You kept it simply so an absolute beginner could follow along. You didn't bog the lesson down with unnecessary jargon. Much appreciated!
richie you are one of the best teacher, glad that ive found you in the middle of this pandemic and thank you very much for all the lesson youve taught through your videos
Hi Sir, You are the best BASS guitar teacher ever seen on TH-cam. Number One Bass Guitar training video on TH-cam. You are calm too, you don’t rush. You care about the pace and learning tempo of your learners and students. You also teach with real life applications on screen and make it better understandable to a dummy. Also thanks for the positive attitude to make us aware that we can do it. Best TH-cam Guitar Channel ever, teaching us one video at a time. Thanks so much for the memory pegs and onscreen assistance with the red dots. You are the only teacher on TH-cam who understands that learners cannot follow the finger of the teacher without some kind of marker. Wise indeed! Keep it up Sir! You have my vote!
Several people in comment section says : you are the best / one of the best teacher, nice explanation Yes, I think it's true, thank you for the great tutorial video 🙏
The best bass lesson on the internet hands down! Im glad u made these videos. Im searching for good detailed bass lessons for a long time. Thanks to you man.
Narrated Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari: that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."
Finally i feel i can play the bass Guitar someday... Explicit teaching, patience, repetition and encouragement. every beginner student needs that... Thank you
You Sir, are a Golden God of teaching. Slow, repetitive, easy going. Iv been looking for a video like this all night. The red dot is exactly what EVERY beginner needs!
This is not one but THE MOST helpful video concerning the scales for real beginners, in the whole platform of TH-cam that I have found through out my search this channel is great and knows how to make things clear and very teach full.
I’m 68 years old and have never played any string instrument. I am believing that you CAN teach old dogs new tricks. I got a bass and am learning. The red dots help tremendously! It’s physically difficult to move my fingers when fretting the notes, and I end up sliding around more using the fingers that work, but by His stripes I am healed!
after almost giving up on finding someone who actually wanted to TEACH, I found this. A gift! Thank you for TEACHING and not auditioning like all the others.
hy Richie, I bought bass few days ago and tune it like my acustic guitar on a blind shoot. It turns i was right! now finding the major c scale if the first thing to do. in order to check if i got it right i referenced your video. Thnak you for confirming me the first step in learning bass. I feel like im gonna practice it for a month before going anz further. I am in no rush to learn bass, i already play guitar at campfire level acc. to UG. I follow you from now on and hope to improve soon. Greetings from John in Serbia.
Thanks for the lesson. After so many years from trying to learn playing the bass, I just can’t let it go. It’s in my blood. I REALLY WANT TO LEARN how to play the bass guitar. It’s the sexiest instrument ever:)
Our Kenyan "teachers" won't offer these sessions here on youtube. Even just asking, "which instrument model is that?" and you will receive "DM for more information". Seriously. Kudos guys. I am just beginning to learn the 4 string bass. Today will be my second day in 33 years to hold the bass (Shame!)...and man these tutorials are easy to follow. Thanks yooo
Thank you for absolutely clear instructions! I have been dabbling with the bass since 2000. I just started playing bass for my church a little over a year ago and I need to get my scales down so bad! This is perfect!
HI Ritchie.wow.thank you for the excellent easy to understatnd bass lessons.Im 57 yrs old and only been playin bass a few months.im the drummer in our family band with my 17 yr old daughter and my 24 yr old son.Want to learn bass to become a better drummer and because it a different instrument than drums.THANKS AGAIN
Wow, I've been playing bass for a few years now just casually (remembering songs, reading tabs) etc, but now I'm getting into like actual playing and theory and stuff, I thought that it would be quite daunting, but you've been making it easier on me. Thank you! It's been helpful. You're a godsend.
Your instructions for a new bass player are amazing clear and to the point and you talk like your teaching someone new so us new ones can move on to the next stage Thank you
what sets this class apart from others with the same or identical titles is that it shows two versions or techniques of playing the c major scare (2 [notes per string]-3-3 and 3-3-2.) call it luck but in all my years i never came across this demonstration before. beside the bacon is that there is a clear view on where he places his fingers, so it is not veiled, the letters jumping in. then there is the clear crisp voice. it is my first view on this channel, will go on.
I want to play bass since school but could nt afford to buy one.so just bought the bass guitar yesterday and hope this lesson will make my dream come true.Tq from Malaysia
This video was so helpful 😥I've beeb procrastinating playing the bass because I'm so new to it it was hard to find videos I understood, but this one was super easy to follow. 🖒
thanks for the good help. finally learned a scale after 2 years of bass and it really made me realize how bad i am since i never do any actual practices like this
Thank you very much for these lessons. I just started to play today. One question though. When you play scales down and up, do you switch the starting plucking finger as well. Like when you go down you start with the index finger, but does that mean when you go back you start with your second finger ? Hope my question makes sense :)
Hi, i am by no means a beginner, ive been playing for almost two years, but i want to get a fretless bass soon, and thought i need to brush up on my scales and learn how to play with my pinky on my left hand. and i just noticed one of my favorite songs The creature lives by Mastodon: uses the entire C major scale! i thought the riff was so beautiful, and all it is is literally a rundown of the C major scale! im sorry i just think thats so cool. thanks!
