    Good find.....especially since a wandering ball could lock up the box, unable to be released by the clutch, and someone get hurt.

    Oh! dear who'd have ever thought it. Well done on the detective work.

    Case solved, Paul “Sherlock” Henshaw. 😀👍. Hopefully, smooth running and shifting from now on. Kudos !! Cheers, Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦

    Just to be clear, that ball bearing had no business being in there and may have even been deliberately put there, who knows - I don't.

      Yes they don't need a ball bearing for the clutch push rod.They have a tip sleeve that goes over the end of the pushrod into where the clutch operating mechanism locates on the outer casing.

    Now that's a bizarre fault, and a bizarre reason.
    I'm sure you've got it.

    My guess is that you’ve found it. Well done. The only remaining questions are, where did the ball come from, and where (if anywhere) is it supposed to go?

      The ball is a part of the clutch arm on the gearbox case. It has a ball and what looks like a cup that the ball sits in on the exploded parts drawing. Someone clearly dropped it in there when working on it before and never noticed. It's numbered 77 on one exploded diagram and 14 on another.

    Where's the ball bearing from ? Clutch pushrod actuator?

    That is very odd, you’ve cracked it. You do wonder how it got in there.

    Fortunately the problem was found before a possible crash. Much happier must be the owner.

    You're right, you'd have to be a soap opera script writer to make that up. Satisfying diagnosis, did you find any witness marks on the casing? Lesser engineers might still be scratching their heads, well done and thanks for the full story.

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks - you can just make out a slightly shiny area on the bottom of the quadrant where it jammed on the ball, in the video.

    Good Job, a later '69-70 shift plate will help shifting too I think they are marked with T. Layshaft shim also crucial.

    It looks like, mes Amis, EVERYONE has the same query. So, is there a Roller Bearing, missing a ball ?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Amelie - no, there is no such part inside those gearboxes, somehow, it found its way in there!

    Where is the ball from though paul

  • @geraldfitzgibbon7428

    Or the clutch lifter mechanism has ball bearing that push as plate rotates .an it causes rod to push on clutch presure plate.or is that just triumph

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a ball between the two sections of clutch pushrod found on this machine, but there is no way one of those could get into the gearbox, as it is in a hollow centre running from end to end through the mainshaft.

    • @gerryh0011

      @@paulhenshaw4514 there should be a ball in the hole in the clutch operating rack that might have fallen out during a previous strip down. I hold mine in position with a dab of grease to stop that happening.

    Where did the ball come from?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it may have come out of the clutch operating mechanism at some time during some 'attention' and found its way through a small opening into the gearbox over time - there was a ball present in the clutch operating mechanism when I found the one in the gearbox.
