I am curious to know if grafting a longer scion will be beneficial. I have seen videos of people grafting 5-6 inch scions, but never any longer branch. The bare root stock I buy from my nursery seems to graft a very long scion branch onto it, hence my question.

Thanks for a nice video. I suggest make a video on mistakes, i.e., when the grafting fails or better explain them. You grafted in the bark, most people suggest to cut in the middle and graft - what is the trick? Pl explain.

    • @GraftingExamples
      @GraftingExamples  5 ปีที่แล้ว

my experience, for citrus trees the most suitable grafting technique is a bark graft like this video, a whip and a double tongue like this video: th-cam.com/video/Duq4ZDMS2h4/w-d-xo.html , single bud grafting technique like this video: th-cam.com/video/CQ29DebpNKI/w-d-xo.html and approach grafting technique like this video:th-cam.com/video/nnTq4AWaDX4/w-d-xo.html
will give success faster than cutting middle and graft like this video: th-cam.com/video/oXTziecDWQc/w-d-xo.html
because, bark grafting techniques, whips and double tongues, single bud grafting and approach grafting on citrus tree are more in contact with the cambium area then cleft/wedge grafting technique.

the scion (your stick?) comes from the variety you want to reproduce while the rootstock may come from a seed that is likely to produce unexpected results...

The grafting didn't take place in citrus family trees and airlayering also.or any season of it. I have done that both things many times : 1 V graft 2 side graft 3 Z graft 4 bud graft but no results. You please tell me what is the reality brother. Iam also a nature lover too and planting trees these days in Punjab. In airlayering the branches die from downwards. Why???

      tips for citrus grafting:
      1. use double tongue side graft.
      2. choose the green branch/young (if brown/old branch use bark grafting method)
      3. use sharp and steril knife
      4. make sure the cambium layer between scion and rootstock connect on one or 2 side.
      5. do fast as you can.
      6. use cover
      tips for air layering citrus:
      1. make sure you clean all the cambium layer
      2. use loose soil (moist), don't mix your soil with manure or fertilizer
      3. you can watering it to keep the soil moist (in summer)

my first citrus grafts all failed, because i was trying using too old wood for doing it and also for not protecting from sun,and my airlayer in citrus have taken very long time to root, the last one over 75 days, its really a much complicated game than it seems, the newer bark grafts i tried on citrus did work, with a sucess rate of around 20 %,its a numbers game, dont be disapointed having 3 grafts failed,i tried atleast 30 before i managed to get some sucess, and i always do now more than 10 each time, its a thing you must be patient and persistent with,so you can get better with time
