    Video doesn't show the side streets. There are some beautiful houses and apartment buildings in Bed-Stuy and many houses go for well over a million. Crime has been at or near all-time lows for several years now. So it's really nowhere near as bad as many commenters here, who are apparently shocked by seeing a community full of black people going about their daily business on regular urban streets, seem to imagine.

    • @jimnasium1243
      @jimnasium1243 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Many of the people commenting here have never lived in a diverse community of working class people like NY. I don't think theres a more diverse place than NY. It really is the crossroads of the world. I grew up seeing blacks whites asians hispanics all going about their business on a day to day basis. Rush hour buses and trains are packed in the am and pm with all sorts going and coming from work. People outside of NY don't understand.

      I'm a 38 year old tall white male from Canada, who stayed in Bed-Stuy twice in the past year. Walked around everywhere, even at 4am. Never felt unsafe even once. In NYC, if you walk and seem like you're in your own world, nobody bothers you at all.

    Not unlike downtown Los Angeles, when I had my condo at San Pedro and 5th, and where walking was always an adventure. One noticeable difference is how much cleaner the Brooklyn streets are. Although Los Angeles has the BID (Business Improvement District), the armada of street cleaners and trash picker uppers could barely keep up with the amount of discarded debris. Denis, what were you using for video capture? Moderately stable, pretty sharp, good capture - good enough for TH-cam. Thanks.

      it's AWESOME to be rich/well-off in the big Northeastern cities like NYC, Philly, Washington D.C. etc......but otherwise, it's like you said, dirty and over-crowded. that's why so many working class people from NYC and Philly are moving down to Florida or Texas, where there's more space and cheap suburbs....it gives you a chance at peace, quiet, and a piece of property to call your own, even if you aren't rich.

    Fun story: In 2009 me and my family visited New York from Ireland. My father booked accommodation. Our accommodation ended up being located in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The first night we got there we turned on the news and heard that a man was murdered on our street. A few days later in the subway of NYC we asked a female black subway worker for directions home, when she found out where we were living her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. She told us we weren't safe there at all.
    The next morning I woke up to my dad desperately searching for alternative accommodation. We ended up staying there for the remainder of the holiday. When I think back, I didn't see a single white person around there during the entire stay. It really was like living on a street from The Wire. I always remember everyone staring at us on the subway there. We were so fair and pale must have looked like a different species to them.

    I grew up in bed stuy when my family moved to ny in 1955, ny was mostly black and puerto rican. There wasnt, for yge most part, any racial problems. People were to busy trying to make a living to pay rent and keep food on the table. I !joined the military in 1980 and never returned to nyc, but the memories are still with me and l do miss people .

      Jack Straw Rosa isn't very bright Jack. I grew up in NY too, a lot later than 1955 though. I grew up in the 90's. black and Hispanic people were always clashing. Shit Dominicans and Puerto ricans were always fighting. This fake news that Hispanic and blacks get along is just that, fake news.

      Uploader24 Polak? You’re an ignorant moron. Not Polish but ok. Anyway you’re so full of shit you can’t even wipe your ass. Yes where I lived in NYC blacks and Puerto Rican’s were at each others throats. And other Hispanics too. Don’t get me started on the beef between Puerto Rican’s and Dominicans. Foh like u know shit.

    This area has changed so much since this was filmed almost 6 years ago. The bodega at the corner on Nostrande Ave is no longer there just a bunch of scalfolds for more new artisan shops and luxury 'can't afford it' living. The empty shop near Golden Krust (:12 secs.) is now Burger King. Most of the side businesses either have changed or no longer there. You'll see a lot more white hipsters now. Welcome to Bedstuy 2019.
