Another scary aspect of the game which you didn’t mention is the urge to instantly jump ahead and get an item through third parties, for as long as I can remember there have been Ebay sellers who will sell you halos and crazy amounts of diamonds for an equally crazy ( and i mean CRAZY ) price. I myself am a buyer who once bought two halos off Ebay and the feeling afterwards is horrible- a lot of these ‘rich’ players have fallen into the habit of spending insane amounts of money on Ebay for halos, diamonds and whole sets. It’s honestly really sad how even after players buy every gamepass, there is still an open market that prays on players feeling the need to buy MORE.

true, I bought the multipliers but the game was acc so boring so unfortunately I resorted to spender over $50 on 3rd party sellers on Ebay and I still feel the urge to keep buying more.

“At least I’m pretty, right?” At the end of the video genuinely left me in tears. It honestly made me realize how many hours and how much money I've wasted on Royal High. Not to mention the fact that the developers have been toxic to Royal High influencers. To be honest, the game is like a drug. You want to quit but you can't.

you can quit but you have to put a rock on heart and LOOSE ALL YOUR so called "PROGRESS" by giving away all your items i did that 2 and half years ago i was Insanely ADICTTED TO RH i had no multipliers but i put in TIME and too much of it i would play RH for 2 years 24/7 and got massively rich but one day when i got scamed a lil while trading i started going crazy sad in that moment just to console my self i thought what even is the use on these items irl why am i so sad over it i tried to get my stuff back by profit trading but it wasn't working then all of this lead me to the same thoughs as this video mainly wasting realife time for small dopamine hits in a game and for what at the END!? will i always keep pushing through these hunger games of rh to feel a sense of achivement . DAY N NIGHT all i though was how to get rich in the game.. butterflies in my stomach all the time thinking of my pretty avatar and my achivements but i realised the fakeness i felt empty (moreover at that time the news that new school campus is about to come out had been there for AGES and the train bow skirt just got reworked and over priced)
and in that moment with thousands of thoughs in my mind i decided i will GIVEAY ALL my items and money so i have nothing to come back to i gaveaway my first batch of items and OH the guilt but now what had to be done was done those items weren't coming back..now in the entire trading hub the news was spread that i was giving away stuff a lot of it of "very high values" people started to lineup up for me to give a batch of items and dimonds to each so i did it slowly the guilt was now turing into a sense of freedom and the GREED was going away instead of trying to scam trade people i was helping them i felt the human in me come back, instead of a riches craving zombie! people were being super happy and grateful SENDING ME TONS! AND TONS! of blessings i felt so good, at that moment i knew that now i had nothing left i was FREE! i could play what i want for FUN eat read study do what i wanted/to should do without having constant cravings for RH and it's TOXICITY you won't belive how good peoples blessings were they made my day i gained 51 friend requests that day. i'm telling you it's WORTH IT! I've been playing RH since 2018, and I have everything I ever wanted in the game. I lost interest in my halo phase, tradi ng phase, and spent $100+. I'm on level 2k+. It is almost like gambling, gambling for a minute, or a month of happiness of getting your dream items/halo, I gotten halos. I wanted traded them away, helped friends, grinding with friends, I even rushed through school, cried when I was early for an update, traded dream items for the newest set, etc. I was ADDICTED. the last time of my addiction was in the Easter egg hunt. As soon as people find the truth, and many open their eyes, we always end up bored or empty feeling. I get my dream item I'm happy for a week or so, grinned 2 months early, made a 1m diamond plan thar takes 3 months, 80k a week, 320k (or more/depending the month's days) a month.
I even made friends, nowadays we are in our teens, or some us already have jobs, college, our years of RH is fading, I barely check if my friends are online, or there not online at all, due to jobs, school, mental, physical health, etc. RH taught math too, time management, planning, dreaming, worst was addiction to gambling with my happiness, I felt happier, less stress after playing games outside of RH. We all can only stay in RH for so long since it's part of our childhood.
Edit: Too lazy to correct my grammar, so I'll say it here, I would cry if I got grounded and miss out on updates, or meet and greets of my favorite youtubers, etc. My emotions of this very game were a lot. I spent more time with diamond grinding than hanging out with my online friends, when we do I felt a lot happier, I laughed, cried, good times with my online friends, stressful times with RH.

This video was so well made. The last line of ‘At least I look pretty, right?’ hit so hard. I’ve been playing the game since it was Enchantix High and was there when Royale High debuted. I’ve been there from the start, and I can confirm everything you said was true. It used to be a fun role play game where players could interact with others and make friends. Now it’s just a cash cow. There’s no soul going into the game. Everything is overpriced and all about grinding. The core of the game now is the ‘dress up’ element and the need to look good. I haven’t spend a dime on this game and even after playing it daily, I was only level 180. This game is no longer the cute role play game, it used to be and I’m happy I left. You covered all the frustrations of players and the fact this game is not new player friendly. This has turned into a pay-to-win. I loved you video and editing style and I am happy to be a new subscriber. Thank you 😊.

Exactly. I also joined in Enchantix High. I feel like removing it was a final blow, that place was where the most roleplays were hosted. I used to roleplay with my friend in this game ALL THE TIME. We both stopped playing because it feels too different.. After that, I played like after spring in RH for a month, a MONTH only of my happiness to get more stuff, winning trades, etc. Thats why I relate to the video SOOO much-When she said, ‘Now I am pretty, but for what?’. That was so relatable and that was excactly I felt right before I quit.

This video SPOKE for me. This is exactly how I feel about Royale High. I’m a 5 year player of RH and over the years it got to the point we’re THOUSANDS of players stop playing because of the harmful effects (Financial struggle, addiction, loneliness and confusion.) I now dislike this game and I bought all the gamepasses for what reason? So upsetting to see Royale high like this. I really hope they don’t ask to take this video down. This is an important message for new and old players since most players are getting influenced by this including myself. Before this video appeared in my recommendation I wasn’t even aware I was "stuck" aswell. I’m not the richest player in a server but I’ve been playing since 2018 so I have a collection of items. In the early days, the game generally used to be fun for rps I could afford most of the shop back then. I guess I still have this mindset today thinking I’m able to get all the items and feel left behind when I’m not. We have to realise that it’s impossible to feel somewhat content without spending thousands of robux. But even after doing so you regret it so much and still will return to the game in the end.

If they haven't asked the RH Wiki [fanmade] to take down their numerous posts about this same topic that they've had for years, nor any of the other objective criticism and discussion of their wrongdoings on articles that have been around a long time, then they probably aren't going to do anything about a video.
Unfortunately, the reason for that is more because they know that even widespread videos calling them out on the awful things they've been doing for years and years won't put a dent in their profits. They just have to update the game to add an item from their backlog and anyone pretending they care about activism will come running back as if nothing happened.

i have been playing royale high for 7 years. (2017) i've majorly slowed down after almost losing my 430 day streak (twice) by falling asleep. (that's besides the point,) i used to play every single day, it was my favorite game. the new school came out, i was there on day one, super super excited, but it was only in phases?? so i waited. i grinded hours every day on enchantix high, but when the new school came out... everyone was level farming. (even i'm guilty), but i haven't witnessed. a single. roleplay. in this new campus. *what???*
i have purchased every gamepass, and even parts of that goddess of triumph set. i was a very active trader, gaining hundreds of thousands of diamonds in days alone. i never felt this sunk cost fallacy, but i felt the addiction. i never really knew what my goal was, since i didn't have everything, but i didnt want everything. i would stalk the halls of traderie, scouring for someone who set the price a little bit lower.
this game used to be super hard to play on my old mobile device, trying to roleplay in enchantix high. or running around in campus two while it was an ice castle and roleplaying as a lost princess. i agree that this game has fallen to the hands of greed and promises they cant keep. it's been almost a year and the new school still hasn't been finished? they started another one? why can't they finish the task on hand... 😥
i know there are lots of mistakes in my writing here but it has been quite sad to reflect on how this game has changed over the years. from the beginning, it was a roleplay game. now it's some sort of dress up game but hours of grinding are required to have any sort of fun. i was always in fear of losing my account, even for one day, because i could lose my login streak. i treaded carefully on roblox, all because of this game. i strengthened my math skills, planning skills, but for what?

Not to mention you literally used to gamble your diamonds with the fountain. Right. The wheel and the fountain are there for you to keep wishing and spinning, hoping you’ll get a prize. Worst part about it is how hateful and bigoted the devs are mixed with how performative activists in the community pretend to care and claim they want them to change, that they're going to boycott, and they're back as soon as they put out some apology or even just updating anything, because in reality nobody playing cares. Anyone who did care and doesn't want RH to be in the position it's in, to not have a platform, quit years ago when this stuff came out. Content creators for the game only care about the issues when it personally affects them, and come running back the instant it's no longer an issue.
The developers - and particularly the owners, Barbie and Launce - constantly take advantage of people, they pay poorly if they can get away with it, or not at all as seen by the case of the 300+ uncompensated artists (which was called out YEARS ago, and has, to this day, never been addressed!). They do not respect their playerbase except for the aspect of that they print money for them. The poor economy is intentional to keep people trading for 'dream items' that are, one day, going to be useless. They are vehemently anti-representation except when it looks good for PR.
The manipulative sunk cost fallacy stuff which has been called out for years is one thing but the influencer culture and how people just will not let the game go no matter what they do is the big problem. Don't pay your artists? Well, they never said they were gonna pay them! Slurs as the names of in-game items? A few of them managed to get fixed but others don't (and it's mostly the worse ones). Launce calls a group of black women toxic for calling him out for racism? Community doesn't mind. They block POC community members on their new X account before said account is even made known? Brushed aside. They partner with pro-genocide companies for their toys? Doesn't matter to the community, they'll just keep playing RH.
RH is a community that is ran by manipulation. It is a terrible example for children - RH players are toxic because they are taught to be toxic. In the past, they have turned their fanbase on competitors to make them fail even before they released. They pressure the idea that even trying a different game of a similar genre is being disloyal to RH, so RH players never try any of the alternatives, meaning they never see how much better they are. Which is important to RH, because people who go try AR or RK2 or whatever quickly realize how easy it is to get currency and buy items to wear - they don't want RH players to figure out that they aren't being respected and that they're draining their time. It would be a huge hit to RH if it became common knowledge that other dress-up games do not require hours of grind to get one basic skirt.
If you're still reading and have no idea what what this comment is going on about, I heavily encourage reading up on the Roblox Wiki's article on RH, there is a LOT of messed up stuff that has been swept under the rug.
The funniest part to me is that, objectively, the new school made the game even worse than it already has been. With the release, a lot of previous reasonable-ish methods for farming (reminder that farming should NOT be required gameplay to get anywhere in a game - a game that necessitates it is, by definition, wasting your time!) were removed. It's very manipulative, and it needs to be called out so people stop playing.
STOP PLAYING. If you have issues with the game, STOP PLAYING. If you agree that the owners' behaviour and bigotry is vile, STOP PLAYING. Every second you play gives them more metrics and money. The game will stop being able to take advantage of people if the players move on.
If you feel like you're obsessed to where it's an addiction, consider using some sort of personal blocker extension to prevent you from going to RH's webpage. You can use webpage blockers designed to help you focus to specifically block RH's page. Remove the play button on RH's webpage with Stylus or some other personal CSS tool (requiring CSS knowledge). The Roblox website extension RoSeal lets you block experiences, which will remove RH entirely from view unless you go directly to the link of the game (and you will be warned if you try).
Barbie and Launce will continue to have a tight hold on people, and a platform they should not have, as long as people keep playing. The statement really needs to be that people need to leave, and giving them advice on HOW to quit, because otherwise they'll stay hooked.

i too understand, it’s happening to me too. i hate royal high for being addicting but i love it for how entrancing it looks on my screen. when i say “i’m done playing royal high forever” i get this feeling of dread because of the memories i have with it, the time i’ve spent, the nights where i stayed up just playing with my friends. and it’s so hard to forget any of that. i want to get out of this hypnosis but it’s so enticing.

@@flutterkai omggg that is also exactly how feel! Royale High is such a beautiful, yet horribly addictive game. I grind mindlessly for hours to the point where I'm not even having fun but when i say i'm gonna take a break from Royale High, I can't because of reasons like not extending my login streak, missing out on getting diamonds, etc etc. I've also spent 3000+ roblox on royale high and also dedicated SO MUCH time to it to the point where having to quit or stop playing feels horrible
Edit: Royale High immediately hooks you with the eye candy visuals and all the grinding like the video states. It's literal hypnotizing. I still love Royale High as a game but, I'm working on trying to get a break from it

This is what I've been thinking but people need to remember. This is literally a roleplay game. There's not necessarily an end to it. Once you start thinking about Royale High for what it is then it becomes better.
But again, why do we expect Royale High to stop making things expensive? At this point, this isn't just their fun passion project. It's their job and how the developers sustain themselves. Of course they want to keep you hooked on the game. That's how I've always felt about money. Even in today's day and age people still somehow cannot grasp the idea of it.
You explained this very well though, throughout the years I've had this exact same thought but I don't know why no one really talks about this.

Unpopular opinion but everyone is complaining about how expensive the game is, yet I feel like most of the inflation has come from the players. Yea, stuff in the shop like sets have def got more pricey, but it's not like it hasen't always been like that. When I played in 2018, most people were broke and couldn't afford anything anyway, but nobody really cared. Back then, people would save for 1 item that they'd really want, but most didn't play for that reason anyway. Personally, I used to grind for things only to use them for rp. The prices in the trading hub however are insane, and it's funny because the same people who are complaining about how expensive things are, are the same people who overprice and overpay which only drives up prices even more... I think if the devs focussed less on aesthetics and dress up, and more on rp and having fun in the game, more people would play again and not for the purpose of getting items, items could become more of an extra rather than a focus, maybe this would make it so players wouldn't care as much about the items and therefore prices wouldn't rise as quickly... one thing tho is dorm prices... dorm furniture is stupid pricey... that's on the devs

I have been playing royals high since 2017. I used to love the game so much because I enjoyed role playing. I mean, that’s what the game was designed for right? Once the new school came out roleplaying pretty much vanished. Very recently I stumbled across someone in royal high and we started playing together. We decided we wanted to role play and so we went to the second campus thinking we would find more people to join us. When we were there someone came up to us and said “Wait is this a role play? I thought people only came here to farm I’ve never seen someone role play in royals high before.” It made me so sad. I mean where did the times go when you could walk up to anyone and start your own role play journey.

im going to to be honest, i’m currently stuck in the phase of playing royal high a lot. It’s happened to me a lot. I’ll play for a month or so, get bored and stop playing, remember how much i used to love royal high in 2020, and join back again. I’m so disappointed in the fact that it’s just a grinding game now. And I used to roleplay A LOT on royal high. But since there aren’t real classes, you need to pay MILLIONS of diamonds to decorate your dorm, and any time you go into a room you get teleported into an entirely different server the new school just isn’t roleplay friendly anymore. And since it’s the first place you spawn into when you join the game, newer players who wanted to roleplay won’t even know the second and first school exist BECAUSE they have to actively want to go there (like pulling up the teleporting option and clicking on the school 2) I’m so upset at barbie for just completely to a 360 of what royal high used to be. Old barbie wanted people to have fun roleplaying and sometimes dressing up in silly outfits, old barbie wouldn’t have racked up to prices to make everything not beginner friendly. I believe that if Old Barbie saw what current her did to royal high..she’d be so disappointed. (srry for the paragraph it is just a super interesting topic to talk abt.)

You want to stop, but you can't, you spend all your money and time on it, you stay and keep on playing/using it even though it's toxic (the devs in general), you loose interest, and at the end, your health, time and money is lower. When you get everything, or the thing, you are happy. But what is there else to achieve? You got it. Hooray. But at the end of the day, its not healthy for you. Your stuck and you can't go back unless you really try. Thank you, and a I'm new subscriber.

The game had become a literal coping mechanism for me after a few events in my life. I’ve literally prioritized the game than more important things. And it makes me feel awful. I’m too scared to tell people this because of judgment and just being brushed off. My family knows that I like the game. But they don’t know the true extent to it. I always play the game for hours, then I get burnt out. I come back and do it all over again. I feel stupid for dumping this all in a TH-cam comment. But I guess I’m just happy that there are more people who actually relate to me or have a similar experience than I thought. Even if it’s about a silly princess game.

I loved campus 2 cause i felt like i could actually learn from there, i would have the best learning classes(i learned how to spell February 🙂) and the best people to play with. But i joined back in july of this year and I was baffled, what is this, this isnt the royal high i know and love, its so greedy and everyone is rude.
I genuinely felt like people just ignored each other and lost the whole premise of the game. The creators just dont seem to listen to the audience. I also found out my beloved sets were taken away 💔. The only time i felt included was at sunset island and when you had to do the obby in the dungeon.

    Pros:

    - pretty
    - can teach us about trading values 😭
    Cons:
    - time consuming
    - gets us nowhere
    - turns us into rude players
    - makes us broke
    - bad for our minds - our minds are forced into thinking Royale high is FUN, Royale high is ENGAGING. But it’s not, we have just been playing it for so long that now we don’t want to stop. Our progress must continue.

When I was always in school, my friends would be asking why I would play rh every day, (bc I have them as friends on roblox,) and I just said “bc it’s a good fun game ig.” But to my actual self it’s been pretty boring. I understand there’s been new updates and I’m happy about that, but it’s not beginner friendly, or helper friendly to be honest. All it’s really about now is just leveling up and grinding.. it’s really boring now. No one especially doesn’t play campus 2 anymore. I actually was just playing it with my big sister bc we were both bored. And she definitely also agrees of how hard the game is bc when I told her about the whole updates now, she was not happy about having to grind everyday. She still plays it with me, but it’s really hard at this point. For me also having ADHD and OCD, I always go on the game and do my daily task everyday. Kinda embarrassing how this video perfectly summed up the situation I’m in too... 💔💔💔 I started playing like dec of 2017 and i still remember back then running around with my friends and attending classes pretending to be some crazy ice fairy and whatnot. Obviously I won’t deny there were already things to purchase with diamonds back then but they were generally really minimal to the point wherein you’ll be able to afford whatever just by playing for a while. It’s crazy to me how much the game has genuinely changed after almost 7 years and while yeah you can really tell it’s improved just by graphics and mechanics but unlike back then, it really hasn’t had the same impact on you that’ll make you think: wow! I can’t wait to play rh today!!!
As for the game and community itself!! Trading and riches is the only thing that matters now so uhh... I haven’t come across anybody role playing anymore which is genuinely such a sad thing to see for a “rp game”. Then trying to do the more fun and interacting activities such as art class or sunset island leads to it being spoiled by people writing down their prompts instead of drawing for “the quest” and people dressing off-theme/not dressing at all for their afk farming routines. Oh and also being a f2p in the state of this economy is absolute hell and I have no clue why I’m still going with it 🧍‍♀️
All this for me to still continue playing it a few hours per day and still being too attached to stop so that’s fun isn’t it!! Thank you for the amazing video though oml I don’t think I’ve seen anyone make a video with this perspective yet and it really nails showing the state of the game!!!!!!!!!!

This video felt like a up call
It’s really just whenever I’m bored, I log onto royale high.
Logging onto royale high, there’s nothing to do, so I end up diving into the abyss of trading for days, weeks, months at a time. I want to quit and pursue other things with my time, but I end up just logging onto the game to see my avatar I worked so hard to make (both time spent getting the items & time spent dressing up). I really hope this time I can really start distancing myself from this game that I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours into(not that it’s a bad thing- i genuinely did enjoy half the time spent). It’s just that no matter how much I farm, how much I profit trade, how many halos I own, my greed for more is really never satisfied. The scariest part is, even after I do play less, what do I even do with the newfound time…

This video explains my whole situation with Royale high. I started playing in 2017. Back then Royale high was all about the role playing and the dances at the school. Then game passes came out for newer hair colors and etc. I then bought the game pass for 80 robux. Not that bad right? Until more and more expensive game passes came out where it was hard to keep up as a 9 yr old with hobbies outside of Royale high. Flash forwards I was always so on and off with Royale high because I was bored of it or I had no time. When I logged into Roblox and saw Royale high, all the nostalgic feelings would come on me and I would feel so guilty if I did not play the game that I used to love. It’s a never ending loop. I’m way older now and I still feel like I have to play this game to prove to myself somehow some way this game had gotten better. The amount of money and time I spent on this game takes a toll on my mental health. It’s like I put so much effort and time into this game and it gets me nowhere. It only gives me a little bit of dopamine every time I level up; but it also gives me very bad headaches because of how much time I spend. It has ruined my life completely. I wish I could go back to when I was 9 again and socialize with more of my family. To build better relationships. That’s what really matters. I can then actually appreciate those moments in life and get something good out of it. Instead, I took the route that thousands had took. Now we are all sitting here. In our rooms. In the dark. Alone. Wondering- What happened?…

I used to spend lots of time making diamonds on royale high (i did roleplay sometimes). What i found annoying was that everything was so overpriced and i was just spending lots of time to get a bunch of pixels. I was joining along with the brainwashed people who don't know what the original purpose and the true purpose of the game. So nowadays, when playing Royale High, I would just spend a bit of time level grinding and farming but i would just mostly spend my time on Roblox roleplaying on Royale High and playing other games.
The thing that really frustrates me is that Royale High is a kids game and they are giving them unhealthy addictions which is just evil. The game is turning alot into adopt me aswell. Everyone trading, level grinding and farming diamonds. Its just so lifeless and people will feel pressured to join the lifeless routine then they will get brainwashed (and kind of hypnotized).
In the old Royale High, there were lots of people talking and roleplaying and everything was lively. Back then, Royale High actually cared more about us and childrens' health.

Just started playing again about a month or two ago, it really is an addiction. Saw all these player's with heels and skirts and bodices id never seen before, immediately went to the shop to see what I'd missed. Started grinding for HOURS on end, I had already bought BOTH multipliers years ago, so I'd figure it'd be easy right? For day's I went from the afternoon to the am's grinding and buying, grinding and buying, item after item until a completed a set I didn't even want that bad, but everyone else had it and I'm a veteran player, if I'm not rich, if I don't AT LEAST have all the main sets, what was the point of that money I spent?
When I couldn't get the items I wanted from the royale high shop, I went to traderie, had to grind even more and stay up even later in order to afford the inflation amongst the community, people charging thousands to hundreds of thousands of diamonds more because the item is off sale this month and won't be back till next year, or the item has been remade and redelivered to the shop, but the original is now worth so much more because... I dunno it has a bow or the animation is different or IT HAS A DIFFERENT FROCKING NAME BUT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME- Then with the Got set, you had to spend a horrendous amount of robux, I get it! It's a charity event! They needed the money somehow! But NOTHING for the f2p players, guess if you couldn't show support with money you couldn't get anything at all...
And now.. NOW THEY HAVE DOLLS. So instead of releasing new sets to the game for diamonds, so it would be at least feasibly possible for f2p players to get them...No you have buy their dolls using real money, get said dolls redeemable code to get the set, then spend MORE if you wanna get the others. 20. New. Items. Think about that, twenty new items, any they couldn't make ANY OF THEM PURCHASABLE WITH DIAMONDS. Then what kinda bugs me is that they put a cute little *tradeable!* In the items description, like, "Hey! Maybe you can't afford to buy it with real money, but at least you can sell your soul and spend hours on our game in order to get it from some stranger for a grossly inflated price! Which.. ultimately ends up in more money for us anyways! ☺️"
Sometimes I find myself going back to the old campuses, to the old maps and remembering the fun I had roleplaying there, even if I didn't have a lot of friends or a lot of stuff. And even when I was by myself, I still had fun with the activities the game provided. Now everyones on the go, NO ONE is sitting down to talk to one another, except for the already rich players with stacked inventories, 100K+ diamonds and like 5 halos. But I wonder if they feel complete after getting all that stuff, I wonder if I'll feel complete after getting all that stuff, maybe thats why I stay, and why I can't leave, because once I do, some day I may come back and once again see a bunch of new stuff I've never seen before, and fall into this cycle of addiction once again.

I've been repeating this sentiment a lot but royale and the developers do not care. In the new school, roleplaying is nearly impossible unless you've already friended someone. The one place you possibly could (the dorms) is outrageously expensive, and the fact that your currently-used items can't be accessed between save slots is a testament to the player unfriendliness. They haven't even added the roomate feature yet! It's also such a consumerist nightmare, *you need more because others have more, you need more because if you don't buy it now you'll have to wait later, you need more because it could go in high demand soon, you need more because buying stuff is the only form on content there is.* Roleplaying, the one thing you could do *for free* and be long lasting has been shoved into a corner and nearly stomped out. If the royale high devs cared they would have incentivized this, they would have made things less expensive, they would have listened to the players and what they wanted.
A gross instance of them not caring is them removing the 'kimono' part of the Cherry blossom Kimono set and keeping it on sale for spring. Wow! What a way to go

..Honestly as a Royale high player (since 2019), this hit hard on me and you are definitely not wrong. I do farm time to time and sometimes I also stop to think about what I will do once I achieve to get the things I want (If I ever do). Im thinking I would just finally be able to do more roleplays because then I can make my outfit exactly how I want it to be but honestly my friends arent big Royale high players so I dont know if I would be able to roleplay often. I also really agree with you on loving the game and the art and aesthetic and everything; But youre right. Despite all the cool things, theres a dark truth to it and your video was like the voice in my head whenever I thought deeply on what the game has become. So thanks for making this video, because I think your message is really important and awakening. (also now that I think of it, it kinda reminds me of the song Mrs. Potato head Spider Web by Melanie Martinez ).

Everyone blames this on Royale high and I understand that but it’s also the players faults, they don’t roleplaying they all farm and make items so expensive, when they find someone who wants to roleplay they wanna make sure the person is rich, if they find someone who is level 5 and has no items they won’t wanna roleplay with them. Royale high is always blamed and I understand that they are evil but it’s also the players.

I started playing when i joined roblox, i love royale high so much and it will always hold a place dear in my heart, i dont plan on quitting any time soon but instead of quitting i just like taking breaks from that game since its quite overwhelming sometimes. I only have like- 2 friends who still roleplay in that game and its honestly so sad tbh, i dont have multipliers but i made 10k in around 2 hours, in honestly pretty easy once you get the hang of it, but its still kind of scamming younger children..

I experienced my first situation where the “sunk cost fallacy” has influenced my choices at my job. Even now I struggle to escape that grip that it has on me. Royale high, as corny as it sounds, makes me feel the exact same way I do at work. I do all this stuff, I put all this effort, and for what? Because I’m already too invested? Because if I’ve gotten this far then it would be a waist to give it up right?
Why should a GAME for CHILDREN make me feel the same way I would at a dead end fast food job that is built on the guilt you have for leaving behind the community you earned working there? Why should playing a children’s game make me feel obligated to keep going, just because I’ve already gotten so far?
Where are the ethics and morals in this? Why is this such a common game tactic? Where do developers learn these phycological control tactics?

    • @peri_archive
      @peri_archive 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's kind of something that manipulative companies just figure out as it's pretty obvious design if you want to print money and don't care about morals. Barbie and Launce are millionaires living a lavish lifestyle and they want to keep it that way, so RH is going to long continue this path and not change.
There are no ethics and morals. It is manipulative, just like it was manipulative years and years ago. The awful bigotry from the owners and other developers kind of indicate that they don't really care about what's right, either.
RH does not deserve forgiveness, though. They have many opportunities to correct their mistakes, and have rejected them every time. They shouldn't be asked to fix things; it's about time people quit. Hard quit. Don't go back to it. Not once ever.
To scratch the same itch, try other games of a similar genre on Roblox. They have the benefit of actually understanding basic game design, so you'll probably get hooked on them but in a way that feels fair, not in a way that feels like it's siphoning your soul away. Instead of grinding hours for one cheap and simple item like in RH, you can play casually for maybe like 15 minutes and get something nice. And that's not even mentioning that most other dress-up games actually give you a TON of stuff to start with for FREE. They actually respect you as a player and respect your time.
When you realize RH has been giving you the absolute worst experience out of the options and you try out other things, it's much easier to switch. But if it's still tough quitting regardless, it may be worth reminding yourself that no game on Roblox will last forever, and one day the time you spent on the game will be unusable, and that's just how live service games work, even outside of Roblox. There are also options to use website extensions to make various changes to discourage yourself from playing RH, such as CSS editing out the play button for RH's page or using RoSeal to block the experience. Doing general research on tips on working yourself out of the sunk cost fallacy is also something that I've seen help some former RH players.

As an OG player of Royale high (been playing since April of 2018) I could not agree more, I definitely invested at least a solid 45$ in that game (over time not all at once) I’m on there A LOT even when I’m bored out of my mind, at first I didn’t mind grinding at times, I figured why not but it gets very boring, I definitely miss the roleplaying aspects and I’m very grateful for the online friends I’ve made who are willing to Roleplay, I love creating OCs and diving into our lore fantasies but snapping back into reality definitely makes me feel sad.. there’s been times where we’ve stayed up til 5-6 in the morning roleplaying and as fun as those days are it makes you realize how miserable reality can be, often feeling guilty over loosing sleep.
For anyone reading this comment I just wanna say you’re not alone. Try to focus less on the money and more about the connections you make with people around the world, that’s the beauty of Royale High I grew up to love. ❤️

Also I’m mad of my 12 year old self for asking my family to “give me 10 dollars” because I wanted that shiny new character instead of not asking them for their OWN money that THEY made… I know that I will never make that mistake again but I am disappointed of myself for falling for those money tactics….

TIME FOR ME TO SHARE MY LORE
had a very unhealthy relationship with the game, I started playing in 2019 and ended at 2022. At first I just played for fun and I didn’t care about farming or leveling up, but once I reached to the level you needed to get to the trading hub is when everything went wrong, I started playing for as long as 6 HOURS a day, my routine was getting back from school and start playing until it was 9 pm and eat dinner, do my homework, and sleep. It was very unhealthy and exhausting, I lost a lot of other things that I traded from other games which is forbidden by the game, and I got scammed a lot, so I started trying to scam other people. I know I shouldn’t have but idk. I finally stop playing cause I got banned (thank god) and I tried to start a new account but when I saw I had 0 diamonds and no levels I just stopped playing Roblox at all

This video hit so hard🥲. I’ve been playing Royal high pretty constantly since 2017 and In the more recent years when it became more about grinding I felt so guilty if I didn’t play. In 2023 I farmed 30k diamonds every day just so I could get over priced items on traderie, and playing Roblox or Royal high itself felt like a waste of time if I wasn’t grinding. Fortunately I told myself if won a second halo from the fountain I would quit Royal high. Kinda stupid, but it worked, it was still hard to quit but after a while I just stopped missing Royal high and stopped playing this year. Best choice of my 14 years of living lol and I haven’t looked back.
( if anyone actually reads this and is wondering I have all the game passes except for the new one, I’m level 3685, own 5 halos ,and have a 831 day long in streak. I wish I spent that time doing something better with my life but it is what it is. All my 7-14 y/o self wanted was to play a cute role playing game😢.)

i started playing rh in 2017, at 7 years old and i instantly fell inlove with the princess roleplay idea and never stopped playing the game all day because i loved the idea of pretending to be a fairy and lock people in a dungeon on roblox. levels existed back then but i never glanced at it or my diamond count, was literally so happy when i had 8k to buy a new skirt but i didnt care if i didnt have it, most players were noobs anyways so i didnt care. in 2019 i was a bit older but still loved the game and when i came home from school i was always asking my friends to roleplay on royale high but oh my gosh one day the trading hub dropped and everything changed, literallu me and my friends fought over items and trades it was so crazy and then i stopped playing for a couple years because the game got so boring, i couldnt get rich and regretted every trade i made. when the new school came out in 2023 i went through the same thing as you, i was so hooked, i felt sad because i was so poor, a low level, and had no good items. i bought almost all the gamepasses and constantly grinded on the game to the point i decided i needed to grind 15 levels a day before doing school stuff.. i literally think right before logging on to roblox to play royale high that im playing because it entertains me, right?? i feel so happy watching my diamond count and levels going up, not running around doing quests and it icks me so much. im always thinking its fine because im enjoying myself and having fun but oh my gosh it just makes me so disgusted how this game hooks me and even being aware of it its so hard not to login everyday, grind diamonds to the millions and buy items, become a high level because i feel the waste of not only the spending of my money, but also the past 7 years. i still have no idea why i play the game everyday when im working towards nothing

Thanks to that, it made me start a whole trading addiction. Thankfully I stopped playing the game for years and I would never go back to it again no matter how tempting it would be.

after the school was released, or at most three fancy rooms, I was able to break free from the sunk cost fallacy. I made amends with how that money was an avid part of my childhood, and how much joy it brought me. But now... It's inescapable. If you've recently dove in, then it's gonna take a long long time to hop out, mostly because you gain nothing but a need and capability to grind grind grind, instead of gathering items to make your roleplays fun, or to make a cute fairy character. You have gotten none of your money's worth; because what you bought has no emotional or physical worth. Just a pinch of dopamine that expires and due to the sunk cost fallacy, reverses.

This is what we call a 'skinner box trap'. My parents used to run one of the top guilds on Ever Quest, one of the first MMORPGs ever, and they lost their jobs over it at some point. My father fell into World of Warcraft next, but less hard, and after they had me, my mother thought about all of the neglectful parents she knew when she was stuck playing these games, and it got her to drop them out of fear. Then when I was five years old, my father set me on his knee, and let me make my first World of Warcraft character.
I am very familiar with this type of game, but I've never really seen one like royale high, which appeals to feminine aesthetics, but makes room for male players and is actually made with some standard of quality. It's really unfortunate that it's turned out like this, and the funny thing about it is a lot of the things it does which turns it into a skinner box trap can't even make the devs money. I believe Launce plays a lot of MMORPGs from what I have observed of his streams, so it doesn't surprise me, but it's still very bizarre. I wish everybody who feels stuck playing luck, it's really difficult when you're stuck in a skinner box trap and it's kind of humiliating to admit. Limiting how much you play will help you, though, and you might even enjoy the game again if you do.

AND TONS! of blessings i felt so good, at that moment i knew that now i had nothing left i was FREE! i could play what i want for FUN eat read study do what i wanted/to should do without having constant cravings for RH and it's TOXICITY you won't belive how good peoples blessings were they made my day i gained 51 friend requests that day. i'm telling you it's WORTH IT! omg, this video PERFECTLY explained my problem with royale high. it is completely unethical now, just like you said. I started playing it when I was a really young kid when it literally first came out. it was everything I wanted. a fun, cute game where I could pretend to be a fairy and have fun with other people. It was like this until the fancier sets came out, I think there was a one called dear dolly or something? and me and my friend GRINDED so hard to get those heels, cause they were so cute! and while i think this is when it started getting a bit less ethical, it was still acceptable in my eyes. they were only around 50k & I think it took my and my friend about 5 days to get them, only spending a couple of hours in the game each day. And it was all okay.
Until the trading hub showed up. That’s what kickstarted the absolute greed of the game. And, if im going to be completely honest, it was the players that started this. Excessively pricing items so that they could get the most diamonds so they could buy the most stuff. Then the developers noticed that the players were OK with paying that much for the items, so they decided to actually price it as such.
Then I started to fall out with the game, because it just wasn’t fun anymore. I had lost my old friend & they didn’t want to roleplay with me anymore, nobody else in the game was roleplaying because they were too focused on grinding & it just got so boring to me. No memories to be made. I had been waiting years for a new school with no release in sight, so I quit.
Once the new school showed up, I was hopeful. I thought that ‘hey, maybe it will kick start the roleplaying again!’. So I decided to pick it up again. But sadly (luckily in hindsight), my device was way too old & laggy to keep up with the graphics. It was disappointing. Now I see though, the devs are just so greedy & have ruined what used to be a wholesome game. It’s sad seeing something that shaped so much of my childhood turn into something more like a gambling casino where you play for diamonds & pretty, fake dresses.

    • @peri_archive
      @peri_archive 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Even prior to the introduction of sets it wasn't that good either, but most people were too young to really understand how yucky things were back then. It is certainly worse now, but it was still pretty problematic even when Dear Dollie and such were brand-new. The indication that it took almost a day of total gameplay combined for one item as you've suggested is a huge red flag that the game's payout vs price scheme was awful and manipulative back then too. Most dress-up games then, and even now, will take you a maximum of an hour or two to get one really expensive item. And that same price could get you an entire set equivalent or two. On top of that they give you tons of free stuff to start with.
Lots of people view the old days of RH with rose-colored glasses, sometimes by merit of being too young to recognize that, and therefore would never remember all the red flags that were around.

    • @saturnthemirrorball
      @saturnthemirrorball 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@peri_archive I do think what you say is true. But back then, the dear dollie heels were the most expensive item in the game, and im sure there were ways to get them quicker back then, because I was a young kid & all I ever really did to try and get them was to enter pageants. now though, it would take you weeks or even MONTHS to try and save up for one item from a set & i guess that’s the kind of point i was trying to make. royale high also gave out free stuff back then, iirc. the wheel was still relatively new & there would be a lot of chests so you could get free items, but now it seems like they’ve started replacing that mechanic with ‘quests’ that you have to pay for. I don’t think royale high was extremely ethical even back then, but compared to some other games at the time (such as adopt me which is very pay to win) I thought it was at least somewhat more fair. But now it’s most definitely become one of the worst games on the platform.

Since the whole point was to socialize and role-play, I would see others interacting with one another and not really caring about the items. and I recall that because of Royals High, I used to have a large friend group. However, I believe that the appeal of Royal High has long since faded. All that matters to them is what they can have, and that is money. They don't give a damn about the players ' experiences or the community. And it is honestly sad to see that, I remember like two years ago when I found one of my old Royal high friends playing the game. I joined her and I asked her what she was doing and she said “not that much, the game is pretty boring.” And I honestly couldn’t agree with her more, we both went on the long deep dive full of nostalgia and at the end we didn’t have anything else to do. I don’t have all of the rare items, but I honestly have enough. I have a halo and a fair amount of skirts, accessories, and heels. I honestly don’t feel like me playing the game has a purpose, now the community revolves around toxicity and overpriced items and it’s honestly so disappointing.

Oh my gosh, this is really relatable to me. I don't have everything in rh, even though I've played since 2018, but i used to have that "crave" to get more just for a short time of satisfaction. I used to be addicted to the trading system, getting online every morning to go to the trading hub. Just to then feel empty after. I still play Royale High, but I've tried to branch out to other games on Roblox. (flee the facility, dress to impress, bloxburg, survival games, etc!) Things have been better, but I still play Royale High from time to time. Even though I know I'll eventually have to lose touch with the game..
Thank you for speaking up on this topic! I hope this video gets out to more people who feel the same.

Ik I’m very late but it’s true played the game since like maybe 5 or something this game is like a horror. Grinding and Grinding. To be honest this would be the downfall of Rh. And most of the player are just disgusting. (Not saying all are!) I’ll tell u, when I was hanging with my friend and were making jokes two people were just arguing with us which was completely insecure and childish and god lord as a minor still it hurted me a lot ik I might be acting sensitive but the fact people don’t know how to act sometimes and genuinely they think when there adults or in high they can act all disrespectful and act like a person who can’t seem to enjoy fun, I don’t know how they found joy from that but clearly it was dumb. And this game is just what is the point? Trade and grinding. The only fun I have it Just to play with a friend but we unfortunately haven’t been talking much. I feel disgusted and disconnected with this game, they only put updates but that doesn’t do anything. Like seriously I feel like grinding should be easier and actually fun! But unfortunately it’s not, this game is just a gambling addiction..

Yeah, as someone who has purchased all the multipliers and is content with my avatar, I’m now saving to one million diamonds to build my room! The Royale high devs are also making a campus four for the aim of role playing! So people can have fun and it will be like the old royale high!

the creators definitely don't care about the minds of their players, including the majority of their game just being pay to "win" (to get every item.). its awful how children are using their money irresponsibly because of this features of the game. I think I got a really bad spending addiction due to royale high. thank you for bringing this to light!! amazing video

To be honest, this is so sad and cruel. I've been playing royale high for 5 years...and the devs totally ruined their game. People nowadays only care about halos, diamonds, sets..You can clearly see some realms (for example) archery, campus 1 and 2, earth and divinia being totally abandoned. 90% of the players are in the trading hub or farming just to feel superior, rich or pretty. Royale high farming system is totally messed up, even for me, an og player, I find difficult and stressful farming. All of that amount of time for just 15k..?
It's true that they added the ''story mode'' and new elements, but that doesn't compare of the true dark fairy roleplays I had back into 2019.
Apart from the devs, royale high community is kind of messed up (not all people tho) today in 2024, trying to make friends in royale high it's IMPOSSIBLE. I used to socialize in archery and campus, but everyone is sooo focused in gaining diamonds that it's so complicated meeting new friends.
Today I tried to join archery, thinking if maybe I could play some rounds to feel the nostalgia, when I joined, there was no one, it was the only server of archery, totally empty. Mostly of the og royale high roleplayers are moving into another games. Included myself. I just hope that royale high listens to the community PLEASE and fix their issues.
Oh and also, you can see that the updates of the game are becoming more and more lazy. If I remember well, back on 2022-2023 we had BARELY updates. And still, I was so addicted to royale high. Now, I sometimes join to see the new updates, but they're so disappointing. By this time the complete campus will be finished in 2026 tbh. Is really rh a passion project for Barbie? She ruined her own game...

A lot of times, on campus two, there’s a roleplay you can join. That’s what I do. After you find good people, you can friend them and rejoin later, and do a different roleplay. it’s like a roleplay group, and as you do it in more and more servers, more and more people join your group. That’s how I have fun.

Spent money on this game 😢 and I'm a lvl 500+ and well the game's still pricy asf
I've spent countless hours farming on this game it's basically a gamble and an addiction for children and y'all can't argue with me on that fact.
This game shows kids how to gamble and how to have an addiction at a young age
😢 This is not a passion project as nightbarbie claims it to be.... Everything is pricey and a scam...

This is an accurate reflection on how it is, this is exactly how I used to feel when the game was extremely popular. Yeah, there's trading, dressing up, grinding, buying... but the roleplays had basically just stopped. What was it for? Where was the real fun in this game? I only kept playing because I thought I was having fun. I would stay up all night, trying to grind and buy a halo. But then what? What comes after when everything is complete? You just get lost in a void, leaving the game and wasted money.

This is why I’m excited for RH4 honestly- they’ve been trying to make it more based off of roleplay instead of just doing quests and grinding for diamonds

something I feel has killed the roleplay aspect is addition of trading and more and more seasonal sets. you used to be able to just have fun roleplaying in RH and making a good outfit for free. if you wanted skirts or wings or mermaid tails, you could just buy some with around 100-2000 diamonds, which was so easy to get as a new player, you even got free accessories from the daily wheel. with the addition of sets, at first it was cool since it wasn’t anything fancy that you couldn’t get from the free 2d clothing options. but since then they’ve pumped out so many new sets every season, each set having more attention to detail in the clothing and anatomy, but becoming more expensive in diamonds up to the point where most players can’t even buy the most recent set, starlight at 230K diamonds. with the addition of trading, everybody is so desperate to just continue collecting every single set and halo just to make their avatar look good, because now the free clothing options in game are mediocre compared to what you can get in a modern day set. because everyone’s busy grinding for the next season’s set (and probably a dream halo), it’s completely killed the roleplay aspect of the game. it was never like this before, it’s depressing especially with such a young audience of children where everybody just wants to feel pretty in a fashion game like this one but it comes with a high cost

I remember last year, when the school was announced to come out in August, I spent a big portion of my time trying to grind to get ready for the school to come out. Once it did come out, I was super disappointed and realized I wasted my time for nothing. I started high school the same month, so I stopped playing Royale high for a while bc of school. I come back every once in a while, and nothing changes.

This is exactly how I’ve been feeling since I’ve joined and I just couldn’t stop. I’ve bought all the multipliers. All the game passes. I’m kind of rich. I’ve spent 29 WHOLE DAYS… on this game. After you get rich, after you get everything you want. What are you supposed to do. I’ve been stuck in this loop for FIVE. YEARS. Royale High has sucked up all my time and money. I’ve realized that I’m no longer happy to play. I’m just bored or tired. Grinding is no longer fun. No one wants to roleplay. I hate it but I love it. How do I escape?

You have literallly described my life. I've quit many times but I've realized that this game isn't roleplay like i thought it would be. its just leveling up and leveling up. I don't think it's fun anymore. Like you have to be level 75+ to go to trading hub and 500+ to be a beta tester. Even the teachers lounge 1500+ levels is crazy.
