In my opinion it's because it's not that big of a need. Sure we need depth, but I'm not losing sleep letting Yosh, Newman, and Runyan walk. Kinda addition by subtraction. Bakhtiari has barely played the last 3 seasons and Walker played extremely well in his place as only a 2nd year player. I am over Myers at C and Rhyan is a question mark at guard making Jackson Powers-Johnson extremely interesting in the draft as he can play either spot extremely well. All the talk that we HAVE to draft a tackle early though is exaggerated in my opinion. Just keep doing what we've been doing and get some middle round development guys and I think we'll be fine.
@@SuperShoe11Agreed. I could definitely see us draft a tackle day 1 who can play across the line if one is available. Meyers is the guy for this year no doubt at C. Doubt he’ll return for 2025 but he’s locked in for this upcoming year. Definitely expect Gute to take 3 lineman throughout the draft to add depth and competition
Our OL didn’t give up a sack to SF; the Super Bowl winning Chiefs were sacked three times. Our line opened holes for 133 RB yards; KC running backs had 64 yards in 5 quarters. I agree we need depth and improvement, but it’s a better OL than KC’s.
@@SuperShoe11 It's not a big need but it's a super bowl need. During the season and the SF we couldn't run in the red zone because we often struggle to create a push (i.e. 4th and 1 in SF). Sure we can pass protect but this offense would be a juggernaut with 1 or 2 maulers in the middle of the line. The offense would control the game and take a lot of pressure off the defense. The defense is maybe 4 guys away from being great on offense they probably just need one. A guy like Jackson Powers Johnson would transform this offense overnight, add another mauler to compete with Rhyan and this offense probably is top 5 able to control the game and give time to the defense to grow and gel under Hafley.
@@WoodyZappa1 Judging whether or not your position group is good now is not the same as judging whether or not that position is a need in the draft. You don't typically expect an immediate improvement to a position group in the draft, anyway. We could definitely use a long-term answer at tackle, guard, and center and it's better to address a need before it becomes an immediate need.
before seeing video I'll answer the question. no. not good enough on either side of the ball, or special teams, yet...and not experienced enough yet either. it's also got a new defense to deal with. let's see what FA and the draft bring. 🤞🏻
If Watson can finally have a healthy season + get into a groove - so much hinges on this - it changes the entire dynamic at WR... However, it's scary to think how good our entire group of of WRs and TEs already are - and can be as they continue to develop!
Compare Watsons' TD catch against KC and the Doubs and Melton TD drops toward the end of the season. Unfortunately, I don't think we can count on Watson for more than a few standout performances each year. It's gonna take draft capital, but we need either Brian Thomas Jr or Adonai Mitchell to be our clear WR 1b...
For WR- I don’t want a "4th and 8, game on the line guy". Jordan is AWESOME at just finding the open man and throwing to them. I'd rather not have Jordan begin to lean on one guy who teams can then just roll coverage to.
Just wait for Christian to be healthy. Hamstrings are naggingly tricky especially if rushed back when it seems fine, but they’re not career ending. And with him being put into a specialist treatment immediately after the season for the first time, there’s a good chance it will be fully healed next year. But you’re right we need guys to continue to progress. It took DA17 3 years before he was even reliable. We need one of these guys to be that reliable guy before that, and that’s a tall order. But not impossible.
I want MLF to be our "game on the line" guy. Give us the best play for that spot in that game. Defenses can key in on your "go-to guy," too, so it adds an air of predictability where I think the whole becomes less than the sum of the parts. I LOVE that our "#1 receiver" in any given week is determined by game plan, play design, matchups, and read. Especially the way the WR market has ballooned into absurdity. Especially the way these guys both figuratively and literally demand targets. I never want personal drama and ego to dictate targets in game.
@@pinksymcfloy That’s not gonna work, unless you think GB can eventually pay everyone as a #1 receiver. Also plays break down, you still need guys that when the play goes off schedule can make plays.
@@samueltaylor6712 Why would we pay them "as a #1 receiver" when they're not? On a given day they can be that effectively, based on matchup and gameplan, but the point is that they're not that consistently game to game. No guy would be your 150+ target receiver, so you're not going to pay them like that. And ya, plays break down. But you don't need a single go-to "#1 guy" for those situations. Cobb was never a "#1 receiver" but he was phenomenal outside the structure of the play. That's just about how you teach guys to work back to the quarterback, attack the catch point, find space. That doesn't have to be a single "#1 receiver." If these guys all end up being "high end #2s" (and I hate talking about receivers this way, but it's the easy shorthand people recognize) then ya you're still going to have trouble paying all of them eventually. But it's a lot easier to keep that cupboard stocked than to find dominant do-everything "#1" types.
Despite the small sample size, Jordan Love looks at least comparable or maybe even a bit better than Farve and Rogers in their first year as starting quarterbacks. Time will tell, but it looks promising that the Packers may have something special with him at the helm. Love will have good games and bad games, but as long as he continues to grow and improve into his role, the Packers will be at least competitive with any team they play, and the future looks very bright indeed.
I’d draft a new LT and let Walker compete. Rhyan may have won the job from Runyan. I don’t feel comfortable with this line. Love to sign Nixon. And what’s our D line gonna look like?
I think with this year's draft and free agency they are a legit Superbowl contender. they were a couple of players and plays short last year. Also hoping for second and third year progress from our talented players on both sides of the ball. 🏈💚💛🧀💚💛🧀
Free agency has some quality players at positions of need (ie safety and linebacker)... It would be huge if we upgraded our roster before the draft. Another terrific podcast🙌
Yes, we should have beat San Fran but we shot ourselves in the foot that game was ours for the taking. And we all know we can beat the lions and the chiefs. Looking forward to next season.
Definitely need to beef up the trenches on both sides of the ball. Cannot expect what worked last season to keep us afloat going into a new season. Need 2nd year jumps from the rookie class. Need contributions from the new rookies. And need to see our staple players make those jumps. JLove needs to take more control and play far more consistently. Quay needs to be that Queen chess piece for us in the middle of the defense. Gary needs to live up to the contract and impose his will against offensive lines. And like always we need to stay healthy. Watson and Stokes hopefully turn a page and 33 needs to get ready as this season is likely his last and 23 needs to get it together and get back to All-Pro form. I’d grab Sweat for the DL. Suamataia and Glaze at OT. Van Pran could be a great IOL and eventual center. RB needs depth and talent. DB needs depth and talent. LB needs depth and talent. We had a great year but we have leaps and bounds to go before we get to the chip
I think they’re very close. Need a couple positions to be better but if just looking at the result of last season they definitely are on the right track. Unfortunately nothing is guaranteed. Someone or multiple someone’s who we expect to be the same or better next year will probably actually be worse. It’s the “you’re either getting better or you’re getting worse”. Brian Gutekunst needs to keep stacking his success in the draft, and nail at least another pick or two this season to keep that progress they’ve been making going strong. At least that’s what it feels like to me. GPG.

Also you seem pretty confident in GB’s SB chances for what was at the end of the day a team 1 game over .500. You can’t just dismiss the 8 losses, and potentially 9 losses if not for a shanked FG. Just because GB ended this season hot, doesn’t mean they’ll start next season where they left off. This team is still a significant talent deficit away from being a legitimate SB contender. GB also had a pretty soft schedule last year, and the NFL as a whole seemed to really be a mediocre league last year, no really great teams. I will say if that continues, then I’d get a bit closer to your optimism in a year or two.
The only place i would say that would stop them would be safey...There O-line graded out as 1 of the better ones in the league....if Gute wants to fix the safet spot and Off ball LB he can
Seeing they took the NFC champs to the brink and beat the SB champs I would say yes… albeit they weren’t playing their best at the time they can only play who’s on the schedule at the time
There is only one reason this team didn't make or win the superbowl this season. That would be due to their coach who absolutely refuses to run the damn ball on 1st downs. 4 incompletions in first half vs SF on 1st downs when he should of ran with A Jones cost GB. The Packers had beaten KC in 2023 plus scored more points vs them than any other team. Matt is a guru in the pass game without doubt. But he doesn't deserve to have Aaron Jones. He refuses to give him 25+ touches with consistency. Refuses to run the ball on 1st downs. It is his weakness & for me why I dislike his play calling & am very skeptical of his coaching. Aaron Jones remains the heart & soul of this team. Packers number one resigning priority. Time to say goodbye to AJ Dillion. Emanuel Wilson needs to take that role & be better. Packers need to draft or get someone in free agency to mentor as A Jones replacement. Jordan Love needs to continue to be a great ball control QB like he was 2nd half of season. He was 9-1 in games he threw no interceptions in the 2023 season. Manage the ball. He does that & continues to develop he'll be an elite QB in this league without a doubt. WR/TE room is strong. Provided Tyler Davis is brought back to compliment Kraft & Musgrave. Tyler Davis was also the Packers best special teams player in 2022 the Packers need him. Ben Simms also has looked good with his limited opportunities. Strongest room in years. Josiah Deguara needs to be cut. Henry Pearson needs a chance to be the starting fullback. Packers have 7 competent wide receivers in that room it is one of the team's strengths now. The only glaring need on offense other than finding a mentor for Aaron Jones is the O line. Only Zach Tom & Elgton Jenkins are studs on this line. Walker has been solid at tackle. Josh Myers continues to under achieve as a high second round pick from the draft. Jon Runyan Jr must be cut. Sean Rhyan former 3rd round pick needs to get his opportunity. Right guard & center are the two weakest links on this O line two targets for the draft. There is also a need to add a tackle for depth & to increase competition on the O line. It's also time to say goodbye to the under achieving Royce Newman & Yosh Nijman. They remain elite as pass blockers. Run blocking has been abysmal that needs to improve. GB offense has most of what it needs now to compete for a superbowl. Just don't regress! The defense is the problem. Where the majority of the Packers 2024 draft capital needs to go. GB must improve on defense. If they intend to play man coverage they need shutdown players. CB & safety are the priority in this draft. Where the majority of the 2024 draft capital must go! Jaire Alexander needs to regain his probowl form. Past 2 seasons been injury prone & subpar. Carrington Valentine needs to prove he can play like last season & become a solid starter. Eric Stokes has been another Gutekunst 1st round blunder. Contract year for him in 2024. Corey Balentine over performed as a UFA but is not a long term answer. Good plug & play. Safety Anthony Johnson Jr 7th round pick did well with his limited opportunities in 2023. Like Valentine he needs to prove he can be a solid starter & build on his past season. Jonathan Owens did well but again only a good plug & play player. Need a stud in that room. Rudy Ford is a very solid piece but is an aging player. If he is cheap be good to bring back. Keisean Nixon underperformer in the secondary with likely to high a price tag to retain. Need at least one more shutdown CB to add to that secondary. Safety needs more depth. This team was one of the worst in the NFL in man coverage & much better in zone coverage. 3 game stretch vs Bryce Young, Baker Mayfield & Tony Devito GB man coverage was torched. Someone for D line can actually stop the run! Wyatt is a great pass rusher but abysmal vs run. They gave up 200+ on the ground vs the 4 teams leaned into the run 2023 -ATL, PIT, DET, PIT. Devondre Campbell likely to get cut due to his large contract ILB also a need in the draft now. Edge room is solid provided they bring back Preston Smith again next season. Mr consistent. Rashan Gary needs to be better. He disappeared the last quarter of the season for the Pack. I'd love to see Brenton Cox Jr get more opportunity with this unit next year for the Packers. Rich Bisaccia has under performed with special teams. That must be better without a doubt. Carlson over achieved first half of 2023 then under achieved the second half of 2023. The long snapper is very suspect. Nixon is too expensive to bring back most likely. Tyler Davis's return will help some in 2024. But it has to be much much better next year. Brian Gutekunst has only brought in two big name players during his tenure as GB GM. Darius & Preston Smith. Like his predecessors he has been useless in free agency. With draft capital & more salary capital flexibility in 2024 that needs to change. A running back in a buyers market would be a wise move. Get a proven talent. The O line & D line could both use another stud. CB & safety also need a stud. Go Pack Go!
@@CheeseheadTyler Yes he did a much better job using him after he returned from injury. ABOUT DAMN TIME. But those 4 1st down incompletions vs SF in 1st half cost them the game if you ask me. Just hope he continues to use Jones that way. Always to quick to abandon the run for me. Gutekunst needs to sign a premier back in free agency to replace AJ Dillion & to become number one RB after Jones is gone.
I’m not quiet. I don’t see Love as elite at all. Everyone has a major recency bias, and he went on a heater at the end of the season AND the biggest difference was receivers started catching the ball more consistently, despite not the most accurate throws, and they made some huge plays on poorly thrown balls that earlier in the season they weren’t. Thats not sustainable, that means there will be a regression to the statistical average. I will say Love earned an opportunity to continue to see what he’s got, at the right $$, but I’m of the opinion there will be a significant sophomore slump. I still don’t see Love as a QB that elevates a bad team and you win games because of. However the strategy of over relying on a QB also didn’t work with Rodgers, and Love is nowhere near that level.
You must be blind if you don't see it....I hate go against the grain fans, wasn't sure about how things would go after Aaron left but know that it's lookin better than expected YOU'RE HERE TO RAIN ON OUR PARADE‼️🤔🤷🏿♂️🎯💯💯
@@jqualls7901 Lol. Ok. You’re blind if you can’t see the throws behind receivers, the under thrown deep balls, forgetting the snap count on 4th down, etc. But you do you.
@@samueltaylor6712 I saw all those things that you're mentioning in the 1st half of the season when Bahktiari was lost for the season, Aaron Jones was injured, the Tight ends were rookies & learning, Lafleur had handcuffs on the offense probably because of all the 1st and 2nd year receivers, The O-line was shaky before the bye...... I COULD KEEP GOIN ON BUT LOVE JUST NEEDED TO EXPERIENCE THOSE THINGS THAT BOTHER YOU..... BUT YOU SEEM LIKE YOU MIGHT BE AN AARON RODGERS FAN BOY THAT JUST WANTS LOVE TO BE BAD BUT GOOD LUCK WITH THAT‼️🤔🤷🏿♂️🎯💯💯
Spot-on analysis. In preseason game one, I watched Love to discern one thing: Had he improved his accuracy? Early in the game , he attempted an easy throw to a wide open, 6'6" Luke Musgrave, but the ball sailed six feet over Musgrave's head. Okay I thought, this is preseason, However, two things must be remembered: First, Love is a four-year player, not a rookie. Second, preseason is one thing, but missed throws like that are often decisive in big games, especially playoff games. GB's receiver corps looks promising. I'll be watching next season to see if Love consistently hits receivers in stride (the way he hit Dontayvion Wicks for a TD in the Dallas game--that was sweet!) But your point about recency bias is well taken. I remember premature praise for Teddy Bridgewater, RG3 and Carson Wentz. Let's hope that doesn't happen in Cheeseland.
@@jqualls7901 If you saw all those things, then you should have seen them late in the season as well, the receivers just made better adjustments and caught some bad balls that they dropped in the beginning of the season. Statistically the completion % went up, but the ball still was behind, high, low often, receivers just bailed Love out more often, and to your point the o line did get better, so Love did have more time and receivers had more time to get open etc. But Love didn’t just miraculously get more accurate. Improved yes, receivers really improved, and o line play got better, plus Jones got healthy, LaFleur started calling better games, those things combined to make Love look a lot better, but he’s still nowhere close to the arm talent Rodgers is. If I’m a Rodgers fanboy, you must be a front office homer. If GB was going to move on from Rodgers, they should’ve done it earlier, so they had another year of Love on his rookie deal to determine an extension, rather than going off of half a season of good QB play.

Go Pack Go!
The Packers were top 10 in 1st down runs over their last 3 games at 40.91%
@@CheeseheadTyler Yes he did a much better job using him after he returned from injury.
Dear Lord I ain't reading all that
I think we draft ss first round one or two ol and a rb
hell ya go packers
I think so.
