I have brought C# now and I am able to play many songs too i.e. Indian National Anthem, Ek Pyar Ka Nagma hai, etc I am more into Guitar, Piano (too) and less into Flute. So not progressing that fast I should as far as the practice is concerned.
I got my flute 6 days ago from India: an E Bass orchestral concert flute A 440Hz right handed, and have followed the clear instructions EXACTLY as he suggests. I began by just creating the sound at the soundhole with lips to flute as he shows, and focused for a good time just on that. Even 5 to 10 minutes, repeating again so the tone was solid, saturated and clear. Then after about one and a half days, I could add the fingers, slowly, one by one over time. First Sa, then Re, then Ga, then Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, and Sa'. I had great difficulties at first; my fingers simply would not go into the correct place, and they hurt...or they would move off the holes. One at a time, practiced each, then repeating. I performed 20 two minute practice sessions a day, using short sessions so I did not tire. I always started with just blowing into the soundhole, no use of fingers other than to simply hold the flute in place. In the most frustrating moments when nothing seemed to be going well, I would stop, collect myself and revert to something I could already do, or put the flute down to begin again another time. Sometimes I just put my fingers on the flute one by one, and didn't blow at all. I did exactly as he says: if he says to play a note for 10 minutes...I do that- so we connect to the beauty of the sound. After a few days, using the method in this video, I can play all the notes cleanly as he shows. Of all instruments I've played, this was the hardest to begin study of. Patience is very helpful, and knowing when to stop a session and rest. Be joyous in the small successes and give your body time to learn. As the video says, now that I can play Sa cleanly, the journey has begun in earnest. Now to lesson 2...but I still repeat lesson 1 often, so it solidifies.

Junaid Brother , there is a big difference in chinese bamboo flute which is called "Dizi" or "xaio" and the Indian/Pakistani i mean Hindustani Bansuri . Chinese ones are with an extra hole for membrane and fingering holes are soo close to each other , but bansuri dont have any extra hole and its fingering holes are not soo close to each other . Thats why it is better to use bansuri if you want to learn bansuri .

Me surge una duda: Mi bansuri suena muy distinto la nota PA (sol de aqui) a que puede deberse? Y por ultimo el bansuri, tiene semi-notas? Muchas gracias
Hola Marta!!! PA no es una nota concreta sino que es el nombre q se le da a la posicion de los dedos cuando los 6 agujeros estan cerrados. En el caso de mi bansuri, por ejemplo, en PA tengo la nota Re. Para saber en que nota está afinada tu flauta, solo debes tocar la posicion Sa, que es tapando los tres agujeros de arriba. En el caso de mi flauta ahi esta la nota Sol. A partir de ahi ya es sencillo encontrar las notas. Siempre debes tener en cuenta que entre Mi y Fa y entre Si y Do hay medio tono, por lo que dependiendo la flauta que tengas, tendras que hacer sonar determinadas notas tapando solo medio agujero. Lo basico es aprenderse como se llaman todas las posiciones de los dedos para poder empezar a leer partituras y tocar melodías. El orden, abajo hacia arriba es: Pa (6 agujeros tapados), Dha (5), Ni (4), Sa (3), Re (2), Ga (1) y Ma (1/2 agujero tapado --> el de arriba de todo). A partir de saber esto básico ya podras empezar a tocar con acordes. Por supuesto que hay semitonos, a los sostenidos se les llama Tivra y a los bemols Komal. Se consiguen tapando medio agujero, en la mayoría de los casos. A los tonos naturales se les llama Sudha. Por cierto, de donde eres? Yo vivo en Barcelona y he conocido a un maestro Nepalí que se llama Binod Katuwal, es buenisimo y da clases a un precio muy asequible. I am a beginner with no musical background. I am finding this video of Himanshu Nandaji very useful and informative. It is really encouraging as well. ALthough for me it's a little difficult to use flute which is 25 inches (G natural base) but I am sure to learn with such help. Thanks a lot Nandaji.

This is great. I've had a couple of bansuris for some years now. I've mostly used them as meditative instruments when I wanted to concentrate on breathing to calm my mind. But it's nice to find help for learning the instrument at a more dedicated level. This video alone is a great help in just learning to hold the flute properly. Peace to you.

Shishir Bisen - Play PA for five minutes... Do not try to play any other notes... After that play Dha for 5 minutes... then Ni and then higher Sa... Try this it will help you...

Sir, in the beginning knowledge must be provided of fipple flute to play which is easy to blow and to control fingers rather than providing knowledge of playing transverse flute.
May they are not satisfied because they want more.....sometimes when see some good....you want to have more of it....if don't get it ...then one may get upset.....may that had happened with those 9 ;)

I've been a guitarist for the past 15 years and I am now learning to play bansuri. Could you please tell me how do you control the pitch. When I play Sa, it is already on a high pitch and then when I go to Pa, the pitch is low.

I just have one question about strength of breath. do we need to increasw strength while blowing for 'pa'? could you please guide through modulation and demodulation of breath while playing basuri? and some breathing exercises or some jingles to exercise (e.g. sa re ga, re ga ma, ga ma pa, pa dha ni, dha ni sa..) it sounds simple awesome. thank you.

I've been a guitarist for the past 15 years and I am now learning to play bansuri. Could you please tell me how do you control the pitch. When I play Sa, it is already on a high pitch and then when I go to Pa, the pitch is low.

I just have one question about strength of breath. do we need to increasw strength while blowing for 'pa'? could you please guide through modulation and demodulation of breath while playing basuri? and some breathing exercises or some jingles to exercise (e.g. sa re ga, re ga ma, ga ma pa, pa dha ni, dha ni sa..)
