  • Jing'an Temple, also known as Jing'an Ancient Temple, is located in Jing'an District, Shanghai. According to legend, its history can be traced back to the tenth year of Chiwu, Sun Wu of the Three Kingdoms (247), and it was originally named Hudu Chongxuan Temple. In the first year of Song Dazhong Xiangfu (1008), it was renamed Jing'an Temple. In the ninth year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1216), the temple was moved from the bank of the Wusong River to the bank of Lupu Boiling Well (now Nanjing West Road), which was built earlier than Shanghai. Jing'an Temple has a total construction area of 22,000 square meters. The entire temple forms a pattern of the front temple and the rear tower. It is composed of three main buildings: the Daxiong Hall, the Tianwang Hall, and the Sansheng Hall. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. There are famous paintings of Bada Shanren and Wen Zhengming's original "Pipa Xing" cursive scroll in the temple. Jing'an District is also famous for Jing'an Temple. The architectural style of Jing'an Temple imitates the architectural style before the Ming Dynasty, and the typical representative is the shape of the bucket arch.
